After receiving the Z-Rings and Z-Crystals bestowed by Tapu Lele, Yong and Cynthia chose to stay on Akala Island. With Kiawe and Lana's help, they began learning to wield the power of Z-Moves!

The Rock-type Z-Move had an imposing, fearsome name!

Continental Crush!

It drew on Z-Power to summon an enormous, terrifying mountain of rock, then brought it crashing down from the sky! Its power was immense, and its range was vast!

All Z-Moves shared one powerful trait: they were guaranteed to hit! (PS: The anime has actually shown battles where Z-Moves could be dodged, but I'm following the official setting here and treating guaranteed accuracy as a trait of Z-Moves. They can only be canceled out, not dodged!)

Even protective moves could not completely block a Z-Move's attack. They could only slightly reduce the damage it inflicted.

In other words, unless an opponent met it head-on with tremendous power, or power on the same level, and completely canceled it out, dodging could not defend against such an attack.

The Water-type Z-Move was called Hydro Vortex!

Although its name was not as imposing as Continental Crush, the Waterium Z move was just as powerful and also had the potent effect of restraining its target!

Rather than a whirlpool, it was more like a terrifying storm that completely engulfed the opponent!

Yong entrusted this power to Aggron!

Aggron lacked a decisive finishing move of its own type, and a Z-Move neatly made up for its insufficient offensive power.

Steelix had no need for this boost, and neither did Swampert!

Tyranitar's control over the Dark type now far surpassed its control over the Rock type, and the Dark type already excelled at offense.

Volcarona was incompatible, and so was Metagross!

Aerodactyl was not a Pokémon that stood its ground and traded blows.
