Background / History
Journey with Candice
Snover was Candice’s first Pokémon. After graduating from Pokémon School, she began traveling to prepare for the League assessment required to inherit Snowpoint Gym from her father. Initially, her energetic nature and Snover’s gentle disposition caused no conflict 15.
Their relationship deteriorated as Candice became increasingly distracted by fashion. In Hearthome City, she stopped to admire a dress instead of attending a Gym challenge her father had arranged with Fantina. Snover challenged the Gym alone, suffered a severe defeat, and ran away in anger 15.
Meeting Qingliu and Reconciliation
While wandering in central Sinnoh, Snover intercepted an Aipom that had stolen Qingliu’s grilled fish. It restrained the thief with Leech Seed and made it return the food. When Qingliu offered the recovered fish as thanks, Snover reciprocated with two small ice balls from its body 12 13.
Snover hid when Candice approached and initially refused to acknowledge her apologies. Qingliu persuaded it to join their discussion, then criticized Candice’s neglect and questioned her fitness to become a Gym Leader. Despite its resentment, Snover stepped between them to defend its Trainer and affirmed its belief in her 14 15 16.
Qingliu challenged the pair to prove their resolve against Agumon. Snover suffered a powerful claw strike and a devastating Pepper Breath, but stood again and refused to be recalled. Candice tried to conceal the battlefield so she could end the fight; Agumon’s final fireball instead exploded before reaching Snover. Qingliu later explained that the apparent threat was intended to make Trainer and Pokémon recognize their attachment to each other 16 17 18 19.
Afterward, Snover recovered much of its strength by eating Oran Berries and shared grilled fish with Candice. Nurse Joy later treated its remaining minor injuries in Solaceon Town 19 20 24.
Rematch and Lost Tower
Snover later reunited with Qingliu and Agumon alongside Candice’s Sneasel and Snorunt. When Sneasel tried to slash Agumon during a greeting, Snover intervened and firmly stopped it 30.
In the ensuing three-on-one battle, Snover supplied cover and restricted Agumon’s movement with Icy Wind. The team briefly trapped Agumon in midair, but Small Explosion destroyed their snowstorm shield and critically injured Sneasel. Agumon then defeated Snover with Pepper Breath and knocked out Snorunt 31 32 33.
Snover was eating with the group again after the battle. It subsequently accompanied Candice as she watched Qingliu advance through the Lost Tower 34 42.
Appearance
Snover has a solid, barrel-shaped body with a snowy-white upper half and dark-brown lower half 12.
- Head: Resembles a tree stump topped by a snow-covered conical hat 12.
- Limbs: Thick legs and stump-like arms; its hands lack five distinct fingers 12 13.
- Eyes: Large and green 15.
- Initial condition: Well-developed, energetic, and without visible scars when Qingliu examines it 14.
Personality
Snover is gentle, sociable, and willing to help strangers. Its intervention against Aipom shows a stern side toward wrongdoing, while its insistence on sharing food demonstrates reciprocity rather than simply accepting Qingliu’s reward 12 13.
Its patience has limits: Candice’s neglect drove it to run away and reject her attempts at reconciliation. Nevertheless, it remained deeply loyal, defending her from Qingliu’s criticism and continuing to fight despite severe injuries to prove their shared goal was achievable 14 15 16 17.
Within Candice’s team, Snover acts as an older-brother figure. Both Snorunt and Sneasel recognize that position, and Sneasel abandons its attempted attack on Agumon when Snover intervenes 30.
Abilities & Skills
Snow Warning
Snowver’s recorded Ability causes snow to fall in battle 12.
- During its first battle with Agumon, the snowfall begins after Snover has already used several moves 18.
- Qingliu questions whether the Ability requires active triggering in reality; this remains his interpretation rather than a confirmed mechanism 18.
- He observes that the snowy conditions lower the temperature and slightly reduce expenditure, but provide no basic combat bonus 18.
Ice-Type Attacks
Snover uses Powder Snow, Ice Shard, and Icy Wind for ranged offense and battlefield control 12 16 18.
- Ice Shard: Launches conjured ice fragments at an opponent 16.
- Powder Snow: Creates snowfall that can be combined with leaves to obscure the battlefield 18 31.
- Icy Wind: Spreads snow and leaves over a wider area, accelerates Sneasel’s Ice Shards, and freezes Agumon’s joints when it cannot evade in midair 18 32.
- Defensive limit: Combined Icy Wind and Powder Snow fail to withstand Agumon’s Small Explosion 33.
Grass-Type Attacks
Snover manipulates leaves and nearby vegetation with Leafage and later demonstrates Razor Leaf 16 17 31.
- Conceals Leafage behind Icy Wind to create an ambush 16.
- Moves behind swirling leaves and icy wind to obscure its position 17.
- Uses Razor Leaf with Powder Snow to cover Sneasel’s charge 31.
Leech Seed
Leech Seed produces rapidly growing vines that restrain a target and transfer stamina to Snover 13 18.
- Binds Aipom until it returns the stolen fish 12 13.
- Restrains Agumon and replenishes enough energy to support Snover’s layered concealment moves 18.
- Agumon breaks free before launching its final attack 18.
Combat Statistics and Weaknesses
| HP | Attack | Defense | Special Attack | Special Defense | Speed | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 | 62 | 50 | 62 | 60 | 40 | 334 12 |
- Fire vulnerability: Its Grass/Ice typing gives it a quadruple weakness to Agumon’s fire attacks 17 31.
- Limited speed: Qingliu identifies its slow movement as a major disadvantage against Agumon 31.
- Other known move: Leer is listed in its initial moveset, but no use is shown in the supplied encounters 12.
Relationships
- Candice — Trainer and shared-dream partner. Their reconciliation reveals that Snover’s trust in her survives its anger over being neglected 15 16 19.
- Qingliu — Beneficiary of Snover’s intervention and mediator with Candice. Snover’s friendship score toward him rises from 20 to 40 after he offers food and respects its reluctance to discuss its circumstances 12 14.
- Agumon — Friendly acquaintance and repeated battle opponent; they chat comfortably outside combat 13 21 30.
- Sneasel — Teammate who respects Snover’s older-brother authority despite its prickly temperament 30.
- Snorunt — Teammate who follows Snover’s social lead and joins its conversation with Agumon 30.
- Aipom — A thief Snover apprehends and forces to return Qingliu’s food 12 13.
Trivia
- Qingliu wonders whether Snover is the Pokémon that will become Candice’s future ace, Abomasnow. No evolution is shown in the supplied chapters 14.
- Snover enjoys Qingliu’s grilled fish enough to recognize its aroma during their later reunion 13 30.
- After swallowing fish bones too quickly, Snover and Snorunt freeze the lodged bones into small ice cubes and spit them out 34.
