| Agumon — Level 13 | 7 | Advances from level 12 after fighting the Unown in the Solaceon Ruins. |
| Small Explosion learned | 27 | Qingliu teaches Agumon to gather and control stronger flames, producing an attack that craters a boulder. Its initial stamina cost leaves Agumon exhausted. |

Background
Qingliu arrived in the Pokémon world one week before summoning Agumon. Dropped into the wilderness without money, a Pokémon, or even a Poké Ball, he survived through trial and error using ideas remembered from Bear Grylls and Ed Stafford videos. Encounters with aggressive Pokémon, including Ursaring and Beautifly, convinced him that survival knowledge alone could not keep him safe 1.
His newly appeared Summoning Panel required energy gathered by exploring ancient objects and structures. He entered the Solaceon Ruins expecting to summon a Pokémon, but received Agumon instead. Familiarity with Digimon helped him recognize its potential, while questioning established that this Agumon was a File Island resident who had never met Taichi Yagami or the DigiDestined 1 2 3.
Qingliu also retains knowledge of Pokémon characters and events. Meeting a young Candice who had not yet become Snowpoint Gym Leader led him to infer that he had arrived several years before Ash’s Sinnoh journey 14.
Appearance
- Described as a boy; no exact age is provided 1.
- Candice privately considers his build and looks attractive 20.
- Bears a Digivice-shaped mark on his palm after the device merges with his hand 45.
Personality
Qingliu is cautious and preparation-minded. He initially prefers escaping the Unown over fighting them, postpones retrieving valuable relics until he is stronger, and plans around Agumon’s stamina rather than relying on a single powerful attack. His ambition to challenge Cynthia does not prevent him from acknowledging their current strength gap 4 6 23 28 34.
He treats Agumon as a friend rather than merely a source of protection. He apologizes for bringing it into an unfamiliar world, shares his limited food, and accepts responsibility when his own reliance on Agumon leads him to lower his guard. He also pays attention to Agumon’s guilt and emotional well-being 3 11 25.
His kindness can coexist with calculated, harsh methods. To reconcile Candice and Snover, he deliberately makes them believe their battle poses a deadly threat. He also cultivates Candice’s trust partly because her future position could help him access Snowpoint Temple, while keeping Agumon’s true origins and the panel secret 19 21.
Abilities & Skills
Summoning Panel
A blue virtual interface that allows Qingliu to examine Pokémon and perform random summons 1.
- Information analysis: Displays species, type, Ability, level, moves, base stats, friendship, and condition 1 4.
- Detection: Helps him locate concealed opponents and direct Agumon through dark environments 36 41.
- Recovery assessment: Provides estimated recovery times, allowing him to judge whether Agumon can continue battling 41.
- Exploration and summoning: Charges through ancient objects or structures. Spiritomb also triggers its ancient-trace exploration function 1 45.
- Limitations: Summons are random, and Qingliu must work out unfamiliar mechanics himself rather than consult a conversational guide 8 45.
Battle Command
Qingliu combines panel information with terrain, positioning, and resource management.
- Launches Agumon from his hands and knee to reach the airborne Unown leader 4.
- Directs Agumon to use the Lost Tower’s walls to close distance on evasive Misdreavus 37.
- Uses Pepper Breath to interrupt Candice’s obscuring attacks and expose Sneasel 32.
- Conserves stamina through hit-and-run tactics, then draws Gastly into a close-range Small Explosion 41.
Training and Move Development
Unable to afford TMs, Qingliu develops Agumon’s existing attacks rather than immediately expanding its move coverage 25.
- Teaches Small Explosion by treating it as a larger, more concentrated Pepper Breath 27.
- Combines physical conditioning, move practice, and wild battles to improve stamina and gain experience 28.
- Runs alongside Agumon to improve his own fitness, recognizing that wild Pokémon may attack the Trainer directly 28.
- Considers whether Agumon could learn compatible Pokémon moves, but does not demonstrate this in the supplied chapters 27.
Survival and Improvisation
- Finds approximate directions using a twig’s moving shadow and two stones 7.
- Makes a bark backpack to carry gathered Oran Berries 9.
- Grills fish, maintains a campfire, and takes the night watch 10 11 21.
- Recognizes fire hazards and stops Agumon from testing Pepper Breath in the forest 7.
Pokémon Problem-Solving
- Uses Agumon’s translation to understand Snover’s dispute with Candice 14 15 21.
- Helps devise and supervise the use of Misdreavus and Gastly to absorb Spiritomb’s excess negative energy 47 48.
- Monitors the absorbing Pokémon’s conditions and explains that their initial pain is not life-threatening 48.
Equipment & Items
- First-generation Digivice — Randomly summoned after exploring Spiritomb; merges into Qingliu’s palm and enables the panel’s evolution offer 45.
- Agumon’s Poké Ball — Given by Candice, allowing him to keep his unusual partner out of public view 21.
- Backpack and camping supplies — Obtains a backpack from Nurse Joy and buys a sleeping bag, flashlight, portable food, oil, salt, and vinegar 25.
- Pokéblocks and Heal Spray — Used to support intensive training, restore stamina, and treat battle injuries; their depletion repeatedly constrains his plans 28 41.
- 150,000 League Coins — Receives the full Lost Tower clearance reward 50.
Relationships
- Agumon — Starter, closest companion, and confidant. Sharing food raises its friendship reading from 10 to 60; Agumon later calls Qingliu its first and most important friend. Qingliu keeps the panel and Agumon’s Digimon origins secret from everyone else 3 21 25.
- Candice — Friend, traveling companion, and training opponent. He helps repair her bond with Snover; she gives him a Poké Ball, shares local knowledge, and protects Agumon’s identity from reporters. She explicitly denies that Qingliu is her boyfriend 20 21 34 39.
- Snover — Returns the fish stolen by Aipom. Qingliu feeds it and repays its help by intervening in its conflict with Candice 13 14 19.
- Cynthia — Future Champion whose strength motivates his training. After he helps Spiritomb recover, they arrange a battle and exchange Pokémon knowledge. She offers to vouch for Agumon’s origins and seek Pokédex registration in return for Qingliu fighting at full strength 23 48 49 50.
- Solaceon Town’s mayor — Awards his tower-clearance prize and helps him escape reporters. Qingliu cooperates with the mayor’s publicity effort through an impromptu congratulatory exchange 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs

Candice’s Reconciliation and Forest Training
- Encounters Snover after it recovers his stolen fish and learns that Candice neglected it during a Gym challenge 13 15.
- Uses a staged threat during battle to force Trainer and Pokémon to recognize their attachment to each other 19.

- Defeats Candice’s coordinated three-Pokémon team and chooses the Lost Tower as a source of both experience and money 31 34.
Lost Tower
- Clears the first four floors while Agumon rises to level 20, attracting reporters and the mayor’s attention 39 41 44.
- Obtains a Digivice during the encounter with Cynthia’s frenzied Spiritomb, then helps reduce its negative energy 45 48.

- Becomes the first male Trainer to clear the tower in ten years and collects the reward. He later tells Candice that the fourth floor had been his actual limit without Cynthia’s help 50.
