Background / History

Riona belongs to the collateral branch of the Miwa family, which descended from Emperor Sutoku and formerly held a place among Jujutsu Society’s Four Great Families. The family lost its standing and withdrew into ordinary society 2 11.

Kamo Tetsuya offered protection to Riona and her father, Miwa Yuto, when he was thirteen. He subsequently gave secret support to Yuto’s plan to restore the Miwa family’s standing. Chisei’s father opposed returning to Jujutsu Society and warned Yuto against it, creating a rift between the main and branch families 12.

Riona adopted the ambition of restoring the family and sought to become a Special Grade sorcerer. She regarded Chisei as an obstacle and wanted the Sun and Moon Charm, the main family’s proof of headship 11.

Riona says others call her the Miwa family’s “child of fortune” because her eyes supposedly match those of its first generation. Chisei instead notes that rare pink-eyed family members were historically treated as anomalies 11.

Personality

Riona presents herself as gentle, sweet, and courteous around classmates, teachers, and upperclassmen. Her resentment toward Chisei repeatedly breaks through that composure, producing insults, shouting, and physical aggression. She resumes a friendly manner when others are watching, including welcoming Chisei to school despite opposing her enrollment 19 20 22 29.

Her rivalry began with comparing herself to Chisei after hearing about her from her father. She fears that the main family’s gifted daughter will take her spotlight and undermine her ambitions. Initially inclined to underestimate Chisei, she becomes more diligent in training after witnessing the gap between them 19 29 39.

Riona is obedient and romantically attached to Tetsuya. His praise and assurances of affection reinforce her loyalty, while his reprimands frighten her. She accepts his claim that his plans for Chisei are for her benefit, although his private thoughts reveal that he considers Riona inadequate for his real objective 13 39.
