|---|---|---|
| Human → cyborg | 34 39 | After a rampaging cyborg killed his family and classmates four years earlier, Genos asked Dr. Kuseno to modify his body so he could pursue revenge and fight evil. |

| Post–Mosquito Girl component upgrade | 39 42 | Received during repairs following his defeat, before his later House of Evolution encounters. Kuseno’s upgrades make him stronger; his combined incineration cannons subsequently demolish a building and gouge the hill behind it. |
| S-Class, Rank 18 | 34 | Earns full marks on both the written and physical certification tests. His registration triggers a 50-point growth reward for Bai Ye. |
Background / History
Four years before investigating the House of Evolution, Genos survived a rampaging cyborg’s destruction while his family and classmates were killed. He later met Dr. Kuseno and requested mechanical modification because he considered himself too weak to confront the culprit. His goals became destroying that cyborg and crushing evil throughout the world 34 39.
Before joining the Hero Association, Genos preferred to carry out justice independently. He registered only after discovering that Bai Ye was a professional hero, seeing membership as a way to fight alongside his chosen teacher 31 34.
Appearance
Genos appears as a blond young man whose exposed mechanical body extends to his face, although his facial features remain his own 30.
- Hair: Blond 30.
- Face: Metallic sheen, with mechanical eyes 30 32.
- Body: Entirely mechanical apart from his original brain 30.
- Initial clothing: Short-sleeved shirt and jeans 30.
Personality
Genos is earnest, persistent, and intensely committed to becoming stronger. He refuses to change teachers after choosing Bai Ye, arguing that wavering would demonstrate a lack of sincerity. Even repeated statements that Bai Ye has nothing to teach him fail to discourage him 32 33.
His admiration often leads him to overinterpret Bai Ye’s words and actions. He mistakes intangibility for extraordinary speed, reads a claim of natural talent as concealed training advice, and records ordinary household activities as possible exercises. When he cannot follow Bai Ye’s combat techniques, he blames his own weakness rather than questioning whether those techniques are learnable 44 45 48.
He favors decisive, efficient action against threats, demolishing the House of Evolution’s surface building without warning. Nevertheless, he warns apparent civilians to seek shelter and becomes alarmed when he realizes Saitama was caught within his incineration blast 31 42.
Abilities & Skills
Incineration Cannons
Genos gathers energy in his palms and releases destructive heat blasts 30 31.
- Exterminates surrounding mosquitoes and attacks airborne opponents 30.
- Burns every nearby mosquito within a five-hundred-meter radius 31.
- Fires both cannons at full power after his upgrade, reducing the House of Evolution’s surface building to rubble and rendering its traps useless 42.
- Wide-area attacks can affect bystanders: Saitama survives uninjured, but his clothes are burned away 31.
Mechanical Body and Close Combat
His artificial body resists mosquito bites and supports close-range attacks alongside his ranged weapons 30.
- Tears off Mosquito Girl’s legs below the knees while losing his own left arm 30.
- Can be repaired and upgraded by Dr. Kuseno as long as his vital core remains intact 32.
- Cannot digest food normally and has a sleep mode for resting 33 48.
- His reaction speed is insufficient against evolved Mosquito Girl and Carnage Kabuto, even after the component upgrade 31 43.
Life-Sign Detection
Built-in sensors detect nearby living beings 32 43.
- Checks for nearby life before unleashing a large incineration attack, though Saitama arrives after that check 31.
- Detects two life-forms approaching rapidly inside the House of Evolution and warns his companions 43.
- Detection range is limited but not numerically specified 32.
Self-Destruct Sequence
Genos can activate a self-destruct mechanism through his chest core when he believes defeat is unavoidable 31.
- Begins the sequence after Mosquito Girl leaves him unable to win 31.
- Activates it again when Vaccine Man prepares to attack his immobilized body 31.
- Neither activation results in detonation; outside intervention resolves both threats 31.
Equipment / Items
- Notebook and pen — Used to sketch Bai Ye’s actions and annotate supposed teachings and training methods, including mundane conversations 48.
- Phone — Used to consult the Hero Association’s website, check Bai Ye’s ranking, and identify Hellish Blizzard 34 39.
Relationships
- Bai Ye — Chosen teacher. Bai Ye permits Genos to follow him but explicitly declines any teaching obligation; the system nevertheless recognizes their master–disciple relationship and rewards Genos’s ranking progress 33 34.
- Dr. Kuseno — Responsible for Genos’s transformation, repairs, and component upgrades. Genos contacts him for retrieval when too damaged to move 32 34 39.
- Saitama — Fellow S-Class hero and expedition companion. Saitama shields him from part of Vaccine Man’s blast, but is relieved when Genos chooses Bai Ye rather than demanding instruction from him 31 33 42.
- Vaccine Man — Defeats Mosquito Girl, then nearly attacks Genos after judging him nonhuman. Bai Ye intervenes and insists that cyborgs are human too 31.
- Hellish Blizzard / Fubuki — Criticizes her attempt to target Bai Ye and questions whether a B-Class organization could realistically surpass Tatsumaki 39 40.
- Armored Gorilla — Investigates him as a possible connection to the rampaging cyborg, then drops the suspicion after hearing that he is the House of Evolution’s only combat cyborg 39.
- Rampaging cyborg — Unnamed enemy responsible for the deaths of Genos’s family and classmates; the principal target of his revenge 34 39.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Mosquito Girl and the Choice of Teacher
Genos pursues Mosquito Girl from Z City’s residential district into No Man’s Land. Her blood-fueled evolution turns the battle against him, leaving his body badly dismantled. Vaccine Man defeats her, while Bai Ye prevents a subsequent attack on Genos 30 31.
Seeing Bai Ye command the powerful monster convinces Genos that Bai Ye is a suitable teacher. After repairs, he tracks down Bai Ye’s home and mistakenly assumes that Saitama and Vaccine Man are fellow disciples. His repeated requests eventually secure permission to stay near Bai Ye 32 33.
House of Evolution
After learning that Dr. Genus has targeted Bai Ye and Saitama for research, Genos helps organize an attack on the House of Evolution. He knows the route to its mountain base and travels there with both heroes on a four-hour run 39 41 42.
Inside the underground laboratory, Bai Ye protects him from Carnage Kabuto’s opening attack. Genos then watches Bai Ye’s fight, struggling to understand Kamui, Rasengan, and Susanoo. After Kabuto’s death, he asks whether Dr. Genus should also be eliminated, but accepts Bai Ye’s decision to spare him 43 44 45 46.
Moving Beside Bai Ye
Genos moves into the empty neighboring house to observe Bai Ye more closely. Bai Ye advises him that ordinary physical training is ineffective for a cyborg, recommending encounters with powerful enemies and greater mental resilience instead. Genos enthusiastically accepts the advice but continues recording everyday activities in his notebook 48.
