The airship took off, and A Luo glanced at the nameless passerby who had just died on the floor.
Were they just going to leave him lying there? What if their destination was so far away that they spent days flying? Wouldn't the corpse start to stink?
A moment later, A Luo had her answer.
Machi delivered a flying kick, sending the still-bleeding corpse straight out of the airship.
So it would stink.
A Luo obediently found a little corner to sit in and began silently assessing the situation.
It looked like the Spiders were heading somewhere pretty far away this time!
Above all, that little incident-the bloody corpse-reminded Lola that the world she had transmigrated into was no beautiful Eden. It was an utterly merciless arena!
She had to stay as alert as a wild beast at all times, or she could easily become the next corpse kicked out of an airship.
Here, the law of the jungle ruled: the strong devoured the weak, and only the fittest survived!
She was still far too weak. If she wanted to survive in this world, she had to grow stronger as quickly as possible.
After an excruciatingly boring day of flying, A Luo continued traveling with the four Spiders over mountains and across seas. Several days later, the airship finally reached an unknown little town.
At last, they had arrived. Chrollo rubbed his sore eyes, only putting away the thick ancient tome in his hands once the airship had landed.
The guy had actually spent the entire journey reading.
Seriously, with that dedication to studying, no wonder the head Spider was good at everything! Back in my old life, he would've been prime material for Tsinghua or Peking University!
If I had that kind of drive, maybe I could've fought my way into a 985 or 211 university, too.
But A Luo had never expected Chrollo to start changing clothes the moment he put his book away, as though no one else were there.
First, he took off his fur coat, the very picture of standard villain attire. Then he changed into respectable-looking dark casual clothes and finally tied a strip of cloth around his forehead, covering the inverted cross between his brows.
Fair enough. Machi and Pakunoda had already tactfully left the airship, Feitan was a man like Chrollo, and Lola, the only other person remaining, was merely a child of a few years.
The leader was only changing his shirt, after all. There was no need to go out of his way to hide.
And so Lola found herself watching Chrollo's fashion show without any warning.
The eight sharply defined abs on the leader's lean waist and stomach, in particular, left A Luo-an adult soul housed in a young body-gaping.
What was this? A tiny consolation prize for dumping me into this fucked-up world?
Credit where it's due, the head Spider's body really was worth looking at. He wasn't much worse than a certain exhibitionist who was always taking baths.
Just as she was about to start drooling, Feitan emerged from the cockpit and promptly rapped A Luo on the head.
"Hurry up and get off. Hold us back again-and I might kill you!"
Listening to that bloodthirsty warning, A Luo somehow found herself remembering that Feitan had been the one to deal with the guy who had ambushed her earlier.
So what was this supposed to be?
An irritable shorty pretending to be vicious?
As Feitan's expression grew increasingly hostile, A Luo, who had no desire to truly provoke this Spider just yet, quickly lowered her eyes and obediently jumped off the airship.
Then she followed the Spiders toward the town on the other side of the hill, traveling for nearly twenty minutes.
Once they entered town, Chrollo led them around turn after turn until all four Spiders came to a stop outside a small inn.
Of course, those twenty minutes were measured at the Spiders' pace.
At A Luo's sluggish pace, it would have taken at least two or three hours.
How did that saying go again?
A mountain might look close, but getting there could run a horse to death.
The town on the other side of the hill had looked so close, but actually walking there was murder.
If Feitan hadn't eventually picked A Luo up and carried her along, she would never have kept up with the Spiders, lagging behind as she did in both stamina and Nen.
Now, standing beside Feitan and looking at the inn's front door, A Luo couldn't help wondering:
Feitan wasn't that much taller than a little kid like me, so how exactly had he managed to sprint while carrying someone almost his own height without letting their lower body drag along the ground?
Had Feitan actually been holding me up in the air the whole way?
A moment later, perhaps because Lola had accidentally voiced that question, Feitan suddenly shot little A Luo a vicious glare.
Chrollo gave Lola a faint smile.
"A Luo, go knock."
Having already offended Feitan, Lola didn't dare provoke Chrollo as well. She immediately put on her best obedient-child act, walked to the inn's entrance, and knocked softly.
"Is anyone there?"
A little while later, the door opened a crack, revealing a warm, kindly face.
"Little girl, it's so late! Is there something you need help with?"
A Luo glanced at the four Spiders behind her and forced a smile.
"Nothing much! I just wanted to ask whether you have any rooms available."
The moment she finished speaking, Lola prayed inwardly, Please! Say you don't!
But when the old woman heard her question, she pushed the door all the way open.
"Little girl, do you need a place to stay? Come inside..."
Halfway through her sentence, the old woman noticed the whole string of people behind Lola and froze.
"And who might these people be?"
Feitan was visibly growing impatient, looking as though he might start slaughtering people at any moment.
A Luo hurriedly said:
"Granny, they're all my family."
The old woman frowned.
"Your family?"
A Luo glanced back, seemingly aware of how flimsy that claim was. Whether in age or appearance, none of them looked remotely like a family.
But under the circumstances, since she had already told the lie, she had to keep it going, however ridiculous it became.
With the expression of someone marching to her death, the little girl looked up at Chrollo and called sweetly:
"Daddy!"
Then she hugged Pakunoda's thigh and introduced her to the old woman:
"This is my mommy!"
Chrollo and Pakunoda, whom A Luo had inexplicably paired off, looked a little stiff.
The old woman's expression was strained as well. She pointed at Chrollo.
"I have to say, this father looks very young!"
A Luo gave an awkward smile and made something up on the spot:
"My dad likes to dress younger sometimes. Normally, he looks really scary, just like a bandit chief! Isn't that right, Daddy?"
Chrollo looked distinctly displeased. He reached out and plucked Lola away from Pakunoda's thigh.
"She's still young and needs to be taught better, so she tends to be mischievous now and then. Please don't mind her."
Seeing how polite the young man was, the old woman hesitated for some time before finally lowering her guard a little.
She opened the door and invited them all inside.
