Old Mother Lishan knew exactly why they had come.
However, she had never thought highly of Buddhism and couldn't stand their hypocritical demeanor.
Especially her junior brother, Daoist Duobao, who had donned a kasaya and become a Buddha.
Seeing that Old Mother Lishan didn't speak, as if she didn't even regard the group of them, she continued to tend to her garden.
This made the Bodhisattvas feel rather awkward.
Manjushri and Samantabhadra ignored Guanyin Bodhisattva's gaze.
The implication was clear: You're in charge of the Journey to the West, you speak, it's no use looking at us.
"I presume you know why we are here, Old Mother. We hope you can assist us," Guanyin Bodhisattva said.
Old Mother Lishan trimmed her garden and casually replied, "The trial of the Four Saints for their Zen hearts is, in my opinion, completely unnecessary."
Huh? What does that mean?
Was she going to refuse?
Old Mother Lishan continued, "Tang Sanzang drank alcohol and ate meat, even breaking the precept against lust. Do you think he still has a Zen heart?"
Upon hearing this, the three Bodhisattvas felt quite embarrassed.
Tang Sanzang had completely disgraced Buddhism.
However, this arranged tribulation couldn't be abandoned just because of such a minor issue.
Therefore, no matter what, they still needed Old Mother Lishan to play her part.
"Furthermore, Sun Wukong is completely obedient to Tang Sanzang. As for Zhu Bajie, he was naturally gluttonous and lustful. And Sha Wujing is timid and seems to fear Tang Sanzang and Sun Wukong greatly. Do you think people like them have a Zen heart?" Old Mother Lishan looked at them with a half-smile.
"Old Mother, no matter what, we must proceed with this trial," Venerable Guanyin said.
If they were dissuaded by a few words like this, they wouldn't be able to report back to Tathagata Buddha and the others.
As for whether it would be completed or not, that was no longer their concern.
The pilgrims had encountered one setback after another on their journey, to the point where they had lost all confidence.
After a moment of thought, Old Mother Lishan said, "Very well, I shall accompany you on this journey."
The group arrived at a forest, and with a wave of her hand, Old Mother Lishan conjured a large courtyard.
The three Bodhisattvas exchanged glances and each transformed into a beautiful young maiden.
Old Mother Lishan transformed into an old woman, the mother of the three maidens.
"Mother."
The three maidens, transformed from the Bodhisattvas, called out with joyous laughter.
They all sat down in the courtyard, awaiting the arrival of the pilgrims.
Western Heaven.
Tathagata Buddha secretly breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Old Mother Lishan had agreed. He naturally knew that his senior sister had quite an opinion of him.
He had even prepared for the worst-case scenario: if the three Bodhisattvas couldn't persuade her.
Tathagata Buddha was ready to swallow his pride and personally invite her.
No matter what, the tribulation of the Journey to the West had to continue.
Looking at the courtyard before him.
Tang Yu sneered inwardly, knowing full well that this was the work of the Bodhisattvas.
"Master, this is the only household nearby. Let's rest here tonight."
Sun Wukong used his Fiery Eyes Golden Gaze to look inside. He didn't detect any demonic energy; instead, he sensed a peaceful Buddhist aura.
Something is strange.
But he was absolutely certain there were no demons present.
"Master, Brother Monkey is right. Let's rest here for a bit," Er Daizi patted his belly. "It would also be good to get some food. To be honest, Master, this old pig is starving."
Starving? You're a Grand Unity Immortal, you don't get hungry.
What nonsense! Just say you're greedy.
However, Tang Yu didn't intend to bypass this. This time, he had planned to make a move against the Bodhisattvas himself.
Let's see if I can trick you.
But he still needed to pressure them a bit.
Tang Yu coughed lightly, "Wukong, Er Daizi, San Lengzi, look at this household, situated in the middle of this forest. Doesn't it seem suspicious everywhere you look? As your master, I suspect there might be monsters here."
Upon hearing this, Sun Wukong looked inside again. "Master, I see a peaceful aura here and don't detect any demonic energy."
Tang Yu gave Sun Wukong a deep look and said meaningfully, "Wukong, are you sure this place is filled with a peaceful aura and no demonic energy?"
Just as he was about to nod, Sun Wukong caught Tang Yu's gaze and immediately realized, "Master, perhaps I was mistaken."
"This young man is teachable!"
Er Daizi and San Lengzi, seeing that their master and senior brothers had spoken, didn't feel it was appropriate to say anything more themselves.
Especially San Lengzi, who had been enjoying the good life with Tang Yu for some time now.
Even if he were beaten now, he wouldn't return to that quicksand river.
He set down the luggage, sat down with a plop, and took off the nine skulls from his head, coiling them up.
The nine skulls were polished to a shine by him.
Tang Yu grinned. He knew very well that these nine skulls all belonged to Tang Sanzang.
He had eaten all of Tang Sanzang's nine lives.
Even the skullcaps had been strung into a necklace.
"Since that's the case, let's rest here for the night," Tang Yu said, glancing at the large courtyard.
He sneered inwardly.
Let's see how long you can hold out.
The Bodhisattvas in the courtyard naturally sensed the arrival of Tang Sanzang and his disciples. They waited for a long time, but the group did not enter.
After casting a spell to observe, they were all stunned.
They saw that the group had actually set up camp not far from the courtyard.
And they were roasting some wild rabbits and pheasants over a fire.
"What's going on?" Guanyin Bodhisattva looked at the master and his disciples, completely bewildered. Why didn't they come in when they were at the door?
Had they gotten so used to sleeping under the stars that they couldn't get used to a large courtyard?
Who were they asking?
Manjushri and Samantabhadra Bodhisattvas remained silent.
In just this short time, Tang Yu and his disciples were already gnawing on the food they had brought.
Suddenly, the heads of several people spun.
They couldn't help but look towards Old Mother Lishan.
Old Mother Lishan's expression was calm, but a mocking smile played on her lips.
She glanced at the three Bodhisattvas and slowly walked out, opening the gate.
Tang Yu and his disciples were eating with great gusto, their mouths slick with grease.
Seeing their state, Old Mother Lishan's lips twitched.
"Masters, in this desolate wilderness, why not come in and stay for the night, and let me prepare some vegetarian meals..."
As she said this, Old Mother Lishan quickly corrected herself, "Let me prepare some food to entertain the masters."
The three Bodhisattvas, including Guanyin, also followed her out.
Er Daizi was directly stunned. His mouth hung open, meat falling from it, and his eyes seemed to be glued to the three young women, unwilling to look away for even a moment.
It's all over.
This Er Daizi was useless.
He couldn't move when he saw beautiful women.
No wonder there was a saying, "breeding pig."
"Mother, who are they?" The maiden transformed by Guanyin Bodhisattva smiled shyly.
It had to be said that the women the Bodhisattvas had transformed into were all quite beautiful.
But just thinking that there were two men among them made Tang Yu feel a chill.
"Does a brothel make money by being located here?" Tang Yu swallowed the last bite of meat.
