Background / History

The Nine-Tails was originally sealed within Kushina Uzumaki. During Kushina's childbirth, her weakened seal allowed an attacker to extract the beast, revealing its colossal crimson, nine-tailed fox form. Minato Namikaze later divided its chakra: the Yang half was sealed in Naruto, while the Yin half was sealed within Minato. 1 50 295

Naruto first encountered the Nine-Tails in her inner world as a suicidal, isolated child. The beast initially attempted to strike her, but stopped when Naruto made no attempt to flee and refused to kill a child begging for death. Naruto returned to speak with it every day; her lack of fear and persistent companionship gradually softened its hostility. 3

Their relationship developed into mutual trust. The Nine-Tails shared chakra with Naruto, protected her during combat, worried over the strain of her transformations, and admitted that it did not want her to die. 20 29

After Naruto's confrontation with Minato in her inner world, the Nine-Tails took human form to comfort her, deliberately resembling Kushina. Naruto accepted her as a mother figure, and later willingly allowed the Nine-Tails to use her body while she slept. 128 129

In its natural form, the Nine-Tails is an enormous fox with crimson fur, blood-red eyes, and nine tails. Its human form resembles Kushina Uzumaki, but retains distinctly fox-like traits. 1 129
