Background / History

Rize was born into the Washuu Clan with exceptionally pure ghoul ancestry. Because the clan revered human ancestry, her heritage lowered rather than elevated her standing. She was denied the Washuu surname, confined to the White Day Garden, and designated a “breeder,” intended to bear children for the clan. Her childhood friend Furuta Nimura helped her escape, but the Washuu continued hunting her afterward 9.

After escaping, she met Kamatari Kamishiro in Ward 6. She first addressed him as her father; he subsequently gave her the Kamishiro surname and taught her fighting techniques. His lectures about her behavior irritated her, despite her attachment to him. Her indiscriminate feeding brought a large-scale CCG deployment to Ward 6 47.

Rize later lived in Ward 11, leaving because she found it boring. After settling in Ward 20, she repeatedly violated its feeding rules and attracted increased CCG attention, disrupting the peace maintained by Yoshimura Kuzen 17 40.

Personality

Rize uses an innocent, affectionate persona to lure victims. During her initial dates with Byakuya, she tries to make him devoted to her before eating him; privately, she dislikes his physical contact and regards him as food. Her apparent concern and bashfulness are initially deliberate performances 2 6.

Her hatred of control stems from her treatment by the Washuu Clan. She vents that pain through cruelty and excessive hunting, feeding two or three times a week when an ordinary ghoul generally needs only one meal a month. She pursues enjoyment rather than greater strength and dismisses restrictive feeding rules as cages imposed on supposedly superior predators 16 40.

Her attachment to Byakuya mixes appetite, possessiveness, and growing trust. She claims exclusive rights to his flesh, questions the scents of other women on him, and eventually accepts him as the only person she can rely on. She also begins acknowledging that Kamatari’s warnings about her reckless feeding may have been justified 22 45 47.

Rize enjoys bleak, brutal fiction, especially Sen Takatsuki’s gruesome scenes. Reading becomes her main entertainment while she is restricted from hunting freely 15 23 40.
