Louis contacted Hideyoshi Nagachika by phone and arranged to meet him at a café. Not Anteiku, of course.
The Manager had disguised the attack on Anteiku as a robbery. It was still closed for repairs and had yet to officially reopen.
The two sat across the table from each other, the atmosphere a little awkward.
"You haven't even graduated from university yet, have you? How did you end up joining the Ghoul Countermeasure Bureau?" Louis couldn't help asking. He already knew Nagachika worked at the Ward 20 Branch.
According to what Kaneki had told him before, Nagachika was in the same year as him and was incredibly smart. When he learned that Kaneki wanted to attend Kamii University, he had spent just a few months cramming at home and gotten accepted.
Even Nishiki Nishio had complained about it. He had worked himself to the bone to get into that university, while this kid had breezed right in.
"It's that thing I told you about last time, with the listening device..." Nagachika scratched his head awkwardly. The bug he had planted on Kaneki had revealed Yamori's whereabouts, so he had reported it to the CCG to get Kaneki rescued.
That incident had also led to his special recruitment into the Ward 20 Branch, where he became a member of Countermeasures Section 2.
"Pretty impressive..." Louis took a sip of coffee. The two had spoken over the phone several times since Kaneki was taken, but both had held back out of caution, afraid to share too much.
"How about... we talk at my place?" Hide suddenly suggested. He was desperate for news about Kaneki, but there were too many people around who might overhear. This clearly wasn't a good place to talk.
"Sure." Louis had been thinking the same thing.
