Chapters 303–327 Vol. 4 Read

Ch. 303The Wizard King taught, and knowledge rose out of reach

John covered Professor Babbling’s Runes lesson for students from the competing schools and taught advanced ancient languages at a level that overwhelmed even the experts. The lesson left the students and Master Nicolatin bewildered, while Beauxbatons’ headmaster’s plan to showcase his school’s talent backfired.

  • Beauxbatons and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic prepared to outdo each other in the Inter-School League, with the academy’s headmaster relying on the Berdeos student and Aude Ollie.
  • John entered the Runes classroom, introduced himself as Professor Wick, and decided the students were ready for advanced ancient languages instead of their textbook.
  • John taught ancient languages and their use in spellcasting, leaving the Berdeos student, Master Nicolatin, and students from every school confused and despairing.
  • John asked the class to demonstrate the grammar of the Flower God Colossus’s blessing, but the students and Nicolatin avoided volunteering.
  • The lesson ended with the academy’s headmaster discovering that he had not understood John’s lecture either, while the Berdeos student realized how far beyond his reach knowledge could be.

Ch. 304Good Guy Cross, Bad Guy Ant-Man

John Wick’s unusual lessons left Professor Babbling convinced her teaching career was finished, while Darren Cross outmaneuvered Scott Lang by abandoning arms dealing and placing his shrinking technology in the hands of the government. Cross secured his freedom and began pursuing an alliance with Tony Stark, while Hank Pym and Hope watched their position collapse.

  • John told Professor Babbling that he had taught ancient magic and the Flora Colossus language, leaving her distraught over his lessons.
  • Darren Cross had the police arrest Scott Lang, then revealed that he had abandoned his original plan to sell shrinking technology to arms dealers.
  • Cross explained that he would leave Pym Technologies, launch Cross Technologies, and work with the government, while taunting Scott and Hank Pym as villains.
  • Cross met General Ross’s representative and proposed a partnership for the age of superheroes, while Hank Pym and Hope realized Cross had defeated them.
  • Cross called Tony Stark, invoked John Wick’s name, and arranged to speak with him before celebrating the founding of the Second Alliance.

Ch. 305The Attack, Vision's Dream

Agent Hill and the Avengers fought the knights invading Avengers Tower while Wanda entered Vision’s dream and discovered a ruined future ruled by the sleeping Wizard King. Vision resisted leaving the dream after learning that the Avengers of that world had died.

  • Agent Hill and Steve Rogers fought the knights and learned that electromagnetic interference stopped them from phasing through walls.
  • Sam Wilson killed one knight but was knocked down by a shield-bearing attacker, while Steve and Natasha Romanoff lured knights toward the Hulk Room.
  • Wanda entered Vision’s consciousness and explored a peaceful natural world that had reclaimed New York.
  • Wanda and Vision reached Avengers Tower, where JARVIS explained that the Nine Rings had plunged the world into magical war and humanity into eternal sleep.
  • JARVIS identified the dream as Year 2399, four hundred years into the Wizard King’s slumber, and said that Tony Stark and the other Avengers had died.

Ch. 306A world without heroes, the chaos of the Nine Rings

JARVIS explained how the Nine Rings and Eternal Sleep devastated a world without superheroes, and Vision decided to wake the Wizard King with Wanda's help. Outside the room, Steve treated Natasha's poisoned wound and called the Auror Fiona Slughorn for support.

  • JARVIS told Wanda that magic had replaced superheroes, the Nine Rings had sparked a civil war, and Eternal Sleep was spreading across the universe.
  • JARVIS's account revealed that Pepper Potts had killed Neville Longbottom and held the ring that let her escape magical punishment.
  • Vision took the ring and asked Wanda to help him wake the Wizard King; Wanda put on Longbottom's ring and felt her Chaos respond to its magic.
  • Pietro and Barton guarded the room as something struck the door, while Steve treated Natasha's wound after a knight nearly beheaded her.
  • Steve called Fiona Slughorn, an Auror, to ask for professional support.

Ch. 307The Minister for Magic, Lockhart's Debut

Harry and Ron dealt with the Wild Hunt before returning to the Ministry, where Ron found Hermione struggling with guilt over John and accepted a protection assignment for Lockhart. Lockhart prepared for a book signing, with Ron reluctantly assigned to guard him.

  • Harry used his Patronus while he and Ron's Aurors searched the area, and Harry said Hogwarts had already dealt with many of the Wild Hunt.
  • Ron visited Hermione at the Ministry and found her studying memory-erasure records; he brought her a sandwich and noticed a letter from Viktor Krum.
  • Ron asked Hermione about John, leaving them both shaken, then told her he would protect Lockhart.
  • Lockhart's books became popular worldwide, and he prepared for a book signing after receiving a protection order from the Wizard King.
  • Ron reluctantly began guarding Lockhart, while Mrs. Weasley asked him to get an autograph and Lockhart handed Ron a signed book.

Ch. 308Magic in the spotlight, the Wild Hunt captured

Steve and the Avengers fought off the Wild Hunt at the Avengers Compound until Fiona and the Aurors arrived and captured most of the attackers. The Aurors left with their prisoners, while the Avengers regrouped and continued waiting for Vision to wake up.

  • Steve and Sam struggled against the Wild Hunt, drawing some of its soldiers away and luring others into the Hulk Room.
  • Fiona and the Aurors arrived on Broomsticks, used magic to defeat the Wild Hunt, and trapped the fleeing soldiers behind a Golden Barrier.
  • The Aurors captured the Wild Hunt and prepared to transport them to Azkaban, while Hill reported that some had escaped with former S.H.I.E.L.D. weapons.
  • Fiona told Natasha that the Wild Hunt pursued magic power and had come for items related to magic stored at the Avengers Compound.
  • Steve, Hill, and Natasha discussed the Wizards' arrival as the Aurors departed with the prisoners in Invisible Horse-Drawn Carriages.
  • Steve and the others checked on Vision, but Barton said he had not woken and Wanda had been like that for three hours.

Ch. 309The Ancient Families, a First-Rate Lockhart

Fiona brought a group of elves to Azkaban and defended the Wizard King's belief in strength above all. Meanwhile, John prepared to use the ancient families' growing influence in the Muggle world to make the Wizarding Kingdom's official appearance at the United Nations conference.

  • Fiona delivered the elves to Azkaban and exchanged teasing remarks with Goodwhite, a former dueling tournament rival who now guarded the prison.
  • Goodwhite envied the advantages of ancient pure-blood families, and Fiona urged him to follow the Wizard King's principle that strength could overcome background.
  • John read the favorable online response to Lockhart's book signing and decided Lockhart had been the right spokesman for introducing magic to ordinary people.
  • John planned the Wizarding Kingdom's appearance at the United Nations conference and considered how the Proxy Families and other ancient families could help.
  • John watched Stella and Alice arguing at the Quidditch Pitch and said he preferred solving problems with money.

Ch. 310Expert guidance, naive students

John took up his forgotten role as Hogwarts' Guidance Professor and gave sixth-years ambitious career advice, binding them to demanding study schedules with magical Contracts. The students' grades improved dramatically, while Professor McGonagall discovered she could not easily undo the agreements John had made.

  • Neville told John that students from Hogwarts and other schools had been pestering him for exam hints and career guidance, so John agreed to take over the guidance work he had neglected.
  • John advised Ravenclaw Riley Case that she could pursue becoming an Auror by strengthening her Transfiguration, then gave her a schedule for becoming an Animagus.
  • John gave students personalized schedules backed by magical Contracts, and their failure to complete assignments triggered harmless magical punishments.
  • After a month, the students' academic results improved, and Professor McGonagall confronted John about whether his schedules amounted to corporal punishment.
  • John showed McGonagall the students' signed Contracts, which left her unable to stop the agreements, while the students gained permission to borrow Library books freely.

Ch. 311The wizards' allies, Malfoy Manor

Watson and Rumlow discussed a threat to Taran Industries’ Treatment Capsule, but Watson chose to focus on preparing Christmas gifts for his children. At Malfoy Manor, Draco gathered influential Muggle allies and ordered them to use their resources to prepare for the coming age of magic.

  • Watson dismissed the threat to the Treatment Capsule to the Expendables and told Rumlow he had a more important task: planning Christmas presents for his children.
  • Lucius disparaged the Muggles arriving at Malfoy Manor, but Narcissa rebuked him and took Scorpius away.
  • Draco ordered the masked Muggle visitors to remove their masks, revealing politicians, tycoons, inventors, and other influential figures.
  • Draco told the gathered allies to use their money, power, and influence to bring glory to magic, then raised a toast to eternal glory.

Ch. 312A little spider, poor Hagrid

At Hogwarts, John used Schedules to push several students into ambitious goals while Hagrid tried to win back Madame Maxime’s affection. In Queens, Peter discovered strange new abilities after a spider bit him, and an old man dubbed the building-climber Spider-Man.

  • Case completed the Animagus incantation after the Schedule’s hammer chased her for forgetting it.
  • John tricked Alice into signing a Schedule to become Slytherin’s top student, then persuaded Stella and Lewis to compete for Gryffindor’s top-student position.
  • Madame Maxime rejected Hagrid, who decided to prepare Olympe’s Abraxans as a Christmas gift for her.
  • Peter recalled being bitten by an unusual spider and discovered sharper eyesight, increased strength, and the ability to catch a falling glass without looking.
  • A white-haired old man read about someone climbing a building bare-handed and said he should be called Spider-Man.

Ch. 313A Melancholy Hagrid and a Lively Christmas

Hogwarts celebrated a lively Christmas with students from eleven schools before preparing for the Inter-School League. In mid-January, the first knowledge competition began with Snape hosting, while Hagrid and Hulk cheered from the stands.

  • Students from the visiting schools enjoyed the first snowfall, and Hulk helped decorate Hogwarts with Christmas trees while John considered whether Banner and Hulk could be separated.
  • Stephens stayed at Hogwarts to train for Quidditch, while his father Cedric returned home for Christmas without him.
  • At the Christmas feast, Hagrid tried to invite Madame Maxime to dance, received a declaration of war, and then resolved to help the students win the championship.
  • The Inter-School League began its magical knowledge category with a team competition on the transformed Quidditch Pitch.
  • Hulk and Hagrid cheered from the stands as Snape took the host's place, leaving the Hogwarts contestants worried about what awaited them.

Ch. 314Racking Their Brains, Beauxbatons Redeems Itself

Snape hosted the knowledge competition, where Beauxbatons used a fast dueling contestant to take the lead and ultimately win. The final question about repairing souls exposed John’s past research, and Hagrid feared he would have to leave Hogwarts for Beauxbatons.

  • Snape began the knowledge competition by asking how to escape Devil’s Snare, and Beauxbatons answered correctly.
  • Madame Maxime’s team gained an advantage by using a dueling contestant to reach the answering bell quickly, prompting complaints from Beauxbatons’s headmaster.
  • Beauxbatons rallied during the alchemy questions and remained among the leading teams as the competition advanced.
  • A Silver Wolf Magic School student suggested powdered unicorn horn to repair a soul, earning enough points to move the school into eighth place.
  • Snape revealed that John had created soul-related magic in his second year and completed research into healing souls in his third year.
  • Madame Maxime celebrated Beauxbatons’s victory, while Hagrid worried he would have to go there.

Ch. 315Making a Big Bang, a Brave Witch

During the potion-brewing competition, John watched contestants’ experiments go disastrously wrong and recognized that a Beauxbatons witch’s potion was about to explode. He contained the blast with a shrinking shield, leaving the witch and the spectators shaken while the Quidditch Pitch survived.

  • Lewis bought protective glasses for himself and Stella and explained that potion contests had a history of dangerous accidents.
  • Slughorn reminisced with Master Nicolatin about Snape’s talent for potions while Snape listened without showing his thoughts.
  • Slughorn and Snape judged the potion-brewing event, where contestants were assigned the Draught of Living Death.
  • A Koldovstoretz student collapsed after his potion produced white smoke, and a nearby Uagadou student ruined his brew after inhaling Forgetfulness Potion fumes.
  • A red-haired Beauxbatons witch added unicorn horn powder and silk tree flowers to her potion, triggering a blinding explosion.
  • John cast a shield around the Quidditch Pitch and contracted it around the cauldron, containing the explosion and preventing the pitch from being destroyed.

Ch. 316The competition ends, a dejected Hagrid

Beauxbatons won the Magic Knowledge Competition after taking the knowledge and alchemy contests, while Hogwarts won the potions contest. Hagrid became dejected over the result, so John resolved to use Hogwarts's resources to help it win the upcoming Dueling Competition; the chapter ended with a doctor operating on a patient in New York.

  • The remaining potions contestants were judged, and Hogwarts beat Durmstrang with its stronger Draught of Living Death.
  • The Alchemy Competition showcased the contestants’ creations, and Fred and George praised Beauxbatons’s enchanted gloves as the best-made item.
  • Beauxbatons won the Alchemy Competition and, with its knowledge-contest victory, took the overall Magic Knowledge Competition.
  • Hagrid worried that Hogwarts would lose him if it failed to win the Dueling Competition, and John decided to help Hogwarts using its existing resources.
  • In New York, a doctor operated on a patient to remove a bullet from the patient’s skull.

Ch. 317Strange, the stillness of nirvana

After Doctor Strange’s hands were ruined in a car accident, John and the Ancient One discussed Strange’s destined role, her approaching death, and John’s bargain to protect the world for one more year. Strange’s hopes for recovery remained uncertain as a new masked hero began swinging through New York.

  • Strange operated on a patient with a toxic bullet, then crashed his sports car while driving distracted and severely injured his hands.
  • Strange became desperate to restore his hands, while John watched and told the Ancient One he could heal them with a potion.
  • The Ancient One explained to John that she wanted to pass on her duty and embrace death, while warning him against becoming a threat to the world.
  • John reaffirmed that he would protect the world for one year and said he hated fate as he left the hospital.
  • Strange finished another operation hoping his hands would recover, while a boy in a homemade Masked Combat Suit began swinging through New York as the Friendly Neighborhood.

Ch. 318Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man

Peter began fighting crime in Queens as Spider-Man while Ivan investigated Chitauri technology on the black market and dealt with trouble in Hell’s Kitchen. Peter remained unhappy with the name “your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man,” and the story left John away at Hogwarts.

  • Peter used his webbing and new spider-given abilities to catch a car thief and a purse snatcher in Queens.
  • Ivan watched footage of Peter and noted that he had upgraded the Fighter to Mark V while continuing to develop new technology.
  • Dax reported a quieter Hell’s Kitchen, a cult following, and Chitauri technology being sold on the black market before entering Ivan and Doctor Helen’s Mind Egg Chamber.
  • Ivan took capsules Dax had found on the black market, suspecting someone was targeting Taran Industries, and told Matt that John was the only one who could make Night Ghost listen.
  • Ivan went to the underground fighting arena and took Valery Jovanovic away from the fights.
  • Peter heard people call him “your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man,” disliked the name, and missed John, who sneezed at Hogwarts.

Ch. 319Dorian, Horace

John used Little Dragon to lure Yarn Dorian into the Room of Requirement, where Dorian trained against magical targets before entering the dueling tournament. Dorian and the Beauxbatons champion Horace reached the final, and their duel began with matching Disarming Charms.

  • John sent Little Dragon to lead Dorian into the Room of Requirement, where moving targets knocked him back and drove him to train for hours.
  • John comforted Hagrid, who feared that Hogwarts would lose and force him to leave.
  • The dueling tournament began, and the Beauxbatons red-haired girl defeated a Uagadou Animagus who transformed into a black panther.
  • Dorian fought his way through the bracket while the Beauxbatons girl advanced on the opposite side.
  • Dorian and Horace met in the final, and their Expelliarmus spells collided in a burst of sparks.

Ch. 320Victory, single on Valentine's Day

Dorian defeated Horace in the dueling competition, securing first place as Hogwarts held the lead in the Inter-School League standings. On Valentine's Day, John went to meet Severus in the Chamber of Secrets.

  • Dorian used his combat training to outmaneuver Horace and disarm her, winning the duel.
  • Dorian took first place, and the Inter-School League standings placed Hogwarts first and Ilvermorny second.
  • Horace vowed to get revenge on Dorian and kept pestering him while he prepared for his N.E.W.T. exams.
  • Kim told John that Severus had been looking for him, and John went to the Chamber of Secrets.
  • Kim toasted Valentine's Day with Pheobe and Heinrich while John entered the Chamber of Secrets.

Ch. 321Artificial convergence, the Dimensional Portal

John and Snape used the Celestial Spheres to create a temporary Dimensional Portal beneath Hogwarts, revealing a new way to reach other worlds. After the gate vanished, John left Snape to guard the miniature starfield and took Stephens’s blood as an activation key, while dimensional powers sensed the breach.

  • Snape confirmed that Stephens’s blood could withstand chaotic magic and that elves could use blood and portals to travel between universes.
  • John converged the Celestial Spheres and stabilized the resulting rift with the Blue Gemstone and the Blue Box, creating a gate that resembled the Veil in the Department of Mysteries.
  • The opening of the portal alerted dimensional lords, including Mephisto, Satannish, and Dormammu, while Odin briefly recovered his memories and sensed that someone had opened a Dimensional Portal.
  • The artificial convergence ended, and John explained to Snape that the miniature starfield would eventually develop technology for exploring and entering other worlds.
  • John gave Snape responsibility for guarding the starfield and watching Stephens, then took the blood card to imprint the world's coordinates on it; Stephens was on the Quidditch Pitch after nearly fighting Beauxbatons students.

Ch. 322The pitch and the legend

The Hogwarts team faced Beauxbatons’ locked Quidditch balls during practice, but Stephens broke the chest open and the team began training in anger. Meanwhile, Professor McGonagall invited Draco Malfoy to Hogwarts as a guest for the third competition, and Draco eagerly prepared to return.

  • Beauxbatons locked its Quidditch balls in a chest protected by a counter-charm, preventing Hogwarts from practicing.
  • Aude Ollie defended Beauxbatons’ tactics and revealed her admiration for Draco Malfoy’s win-at-any-cost philosophy.
  • Stephens fetched an axe and smashed the chest’s lock, freeing the balls so Moor Wood and the Hogwarts team could practice.
  • Professor McGonagall decided to invite Draco Malfoy as Hogwarts’ guest for the third competition despite Neville’s concern that students hated him.
  • Draco received the invitation at Malfoy Manor and gleefully announced his return to Hogwarts.

Ch. 323The glory of magic, the Dragon Relief Sculpture

Wanda, Vision, and JARVIS traveled by the Albatross to Wizard City, where Wanda’s Ring guided her toward the Wizard King’s Magic Tower. JARVIS had to stop as the city’s magical network threatened to assimilate him, and Wanda and Vision found a dragon relief sculpture watching them as they continued alone.

  • JARVIS explained that the Albatross had kept running through the years of Eternal Sleep, and Wanda, Vision, and JARVIS boarded it for the Wizarding Kingdom.
  • Wanda briefly dreamed of Diagon Alley, where a dazzling light seemed to cause pain in her finger before she woke aboard the train.
  • JARVIS described how the wizards defeated Thanos and how magic later grew to dominate technology, politics, and the law.
  • The Albatross carried them through the fog and into Wizard City, where JARVIS warned that the magical network would assimilate him if he went farther.
  • Wanda followed the Ring’s guidance toward the Magic Tower with Vision, and a dragon relief sculpture on the tower’s wall moved and stared at her.

Ch. 324The sleeping Wizard King, the fading light

Wanda and Vision fought the three Dragons guarding the Magic Tower while Wizard City began collapsing after Vision shut down its magic-power device. Wanda reached the tower and found the sleeping Wizard King, Wong, but a hidden figure confronted her before she could act.

  • Wanda and Vision trapped the fire-breathing Dragon in a self-restoring building, then entered the Alchemy Department and witnessed memories of Silencers seizing its Mobius Strip device.
  • Vision shut down the device, halting Wizard City's expansion, and drew the Dragons away while Wanda carried its purple gem toward the Magic Tower.
  • The three Dragons attacked Vision as Wanda reached the tower, opened its doors with magic, and escaped inside just before a wave of darkness arrived.
  • Wanda climbed the seemingly endless staircase and found Wong on the Throne, gaunt and asleep, with a second ring of the Nine Rings beside him.
  • When Wanda picked up the ring, her own ring glowed, and a Wand emerged from the darkness and pressed against her back.

Ch. 325Grindelwald, the Man Beyond Eternal Sleep

Wanda and Vision encountered Gellert Grindelwald in the High Tower, where he revealed that their world was real and began telling them how he came to be there. Grindelwald’s story ended with him discovering a ring in the brief sunlight that reached his hidden tower.

  • Grindelwald appeared before Wanda, read her mind, and pushed her from the High Tower, but she returned with Vision and the three dragons.
  • Grindelwald ordered the dragons to stand down and introduced himself as Gellert Grindelwald.
  • Wanda noticed Grindelwald wore a Nine Rings ring and asked why he had escaped eternal sleep.
  • Grindelwald used smoke to show Wanda and Vision his defeat by the Wizard King and the curse that left him trapped in a shadowed High Tower.
  • Grindelwald recalled that he realized the world had changed after a ring fell into the sunlit gap in his tower.

Ch. 326Eternal paradise, Dreamwalker

Grindelwald revealed that the Wizard King was trapped in an endless dream and that Wanda could only stop Eternal Sleep by killing the body sustaining it. After learning why Neville Longbottom died, Wanda and Vision descended the collapsing High Tower and returned the gemstone to JARVIS.

  • Grindelwald explained that the Planner, Dreamwalker, and Critic were the three heads of an incomplete Runespoor, and that the Wizard King had chosen to remain asleep in a dream.
  • Grindelwald told Wanda and Vision that the Wizard King could not awaken without the Critic, leaving them to kill the Wizard King's body or let Eternal Sleep consume the universe.
  • Wanda asked why Neville Longbottom died, and Grindelwald said Neville chose death as a warning that magic could not rule people's hearts.
  • Grindelwald explained that Neville's death briefly sobered the Stars, but their factions and self-interest ultimately pulled them apart without the Wizard King as their hub.
  • Wanda and Vision left the High Tower and found Mark 42 fading on a bench in the collapsing Wizard City.
  • Vision placed the round gemstone into the reactor in JARVIS's chest, and JARVIS asked whether they had succeeded.

Ch. 327The terrible truth, lost memories

Wanda and Vision escaped the sinking Wizard City and awoke from a month-long sleep, though they could not remember their dream. Vision joined the Avengers, who accepted a mission in Lagos, while Hogwarts students continued clashing over Quidditch rules.

  • JARVIS said goodbye to Wanda and asked her to give his regards to Mr. Stark as Wizard City sank beneath the water.
  • Wanda used her magic to help bring about Wizard City's collapse, then returned to her own world with Vision.
  • Pietro, the Avengers, and Natasha watched over the sleeping Wanda and Vision until they finally woke up, unable to remember their dream.
  • Wanda noticed an unexplained feeling toward Vision and a faint ring-shaped mark on her hand before bathing with White Bear.
  • Vision officially joined the Avengers, and Steve accepted Hill's mission to stop mercenaries from seizing a dangerous biological weapon in Lagos.
  • At Hogwarts, John and Neville discussed the Koldovstoretz students' oversized broomsticks as another clash broke out between Beauxbatons and Hogwarts.
