Yellowed sheets of paper were sandwiched between panes of clear glass, covered in all sorts of jumbled drawings and symbols.
These were pages from the Vampire Bible. They looked like they had considerable archaeological value.
Holding the unconscious policeman, Yang Bo hurried after Blade and said, "Frost will be here soon. You'd better leave first. Their numbers definitely aren't..."
Yang Bo stopped mid-sentence. In his line of sight, a crowd of vampires was approaching through another passage. There were a lot of them-over a hundred, even at a rough glance.
"Watch out, they're here!"
At his warning, Blade immediately drew the Samurai Sword from his back and prepared for battle. Karen, the only woman among them, asked in a panic, "Then what should I do?"
Yang Bo glanced at the Black woman and said to Blade, "Now that we know you're their target, facing them head-on isn't a smart choice!" Then he declared with righteous resolve:
"Take Karen back the way we came. I'll cover your retreat!"
Samurai Sword in hand, Blade thought for only a moment before telling Yang Bo, "We're leaving together!"
He wasn't stupid either. If Frost dared to come, he must have come prepared. In the original plot, Blade had been cornered here, which was completely different from the current situation.
He turned, grabbed Karen, and ran toward the archive room's entrance. He could already hear footsteps nearby.
Yang Bo followed them back to the archive room. He could already see the nearest vampire, who immediately raised his submachine gun and aimed at him. Yang Bo calmly took cobblestone out of his inventory and blocked the doorway.
A rapid burst of gunfire followed. Yang Bo spat, his face livid.
"Fuck, there's one hell of a difference between wanting someone alive and not! If these vampires had been this decisive in the original plot, Blade might've died ages ago!"
Cracks appeared in the cobblestone behind him and spread rapidly, catching Yang Bo off guard.
Yang Bo shouted to Blade, "You two go first! I've got a way out. I might even get back before you!"
"Leave me everything you've got for dealing with vampires except that sword. I'm going to teach these bastards a proper lesson!"
Blade immediately took off his trench coat and tossed it to Yang Bo. Most of his gear was stored inside it. There was no sentimental farewell; he simply took Karen and left.
He wasn't worried about Yang Bo. If Yang Bo really was just showing off, there was nothing he could do about it anyway.
Once Blade was gone, Yang Bo's expression grew serious. He glanced at Krieger, who had been dumped beside him, and muttered, "Sigh, there's no time!"
Without further hesitation, he swung his axe down. The intense pain jolted Krieger awake, drawing a scream from him. Yang Bo showed no mercy, finishing him off in three swings and draining his health to zero.
Somewhat surprised, he picked up the [Vampire Fang] that had dropped onto the ground.
"Did... did his transformation succeed?"
Yang Bo was surprised. Only twenty-odd minutes had passed, yet Krieger had already been classified as a vampire. If he'd known that, he would have finished him off with a Stake.
The gunfire on the other side of the wall stopped. No matter how freely they spent ammunition, they couldn't keep shooting at a wall. Without bullets striking it, the cracks in the cobblestone slowly began to disappear, though not very quickly. It looked like it would take at least a minute.
After checking the vampires' positions inside, Yang Bo picked a relatively concealed spot and dug through. But the sound of striking stone carried clearly through the basement, and all the vampires turned toward it.
The instant he opened a gap, Yang Bo took out the Specialized Pistol Blade had left behind, aimed at the vampires, and pulled the trigger without hesitation. At that moment, he didn't care whether they would drop items. He just wanted to clear some of them out.
With Silver Bullets and Concentrated Garlic Juice, any vampire hit burst straight into flames. In that brief exchange alone, seven or eight vampires merrily turned to ash.
Bang, bang...
Their counterattack was swift. Even though Yang Bo quickly sealed the gap, he still took four hits and was knocked back several steps.
Seeing that only half his health remained, he pulled out a loaf of bread, stuffed it into his mouth, and started eating.
"Fuck, that's some heavy firepower!"
These vampires weren't holding anything back against him. Whenever they saw him, they opened fire. It was completely different from when they were trying to capture Blade alive. Before Yang Bo could finish lamenting the difference, something happened.
With a boom, the cobblestone blocking the entrance was blasted into shattered stones that scattered across the floor.
A swarm of vampires surged inside.
"He's over there!"
"Kill that damned bastard!"
"Watch out for Blade!"
Bang, bang, bang! Yang Bo hurriedly rolled across the floor, and a string of bullets struck where he'd just been. The vampires moved efficiently, advancing rapidly under covering fire without even giving him time to dig a hole.
"Fuck it, I'll take you on!"
He darted out and rapidly pulled the trigger. Special bullets struck the vampires charging at the front, and screams rose one after another. Yang Bo didn't get off lightly either. Several more bullets hit him, leaving him with just 3 of his original 20 health points.
"..."
He ducked behind another support pillar, his face utterly livid. In all honesty, he had underestimated these vampires' firepower and strength.
In the original plot, one side had fought without mercy while the other had held back at every turn. That was what had made Yang Bo think these vampires were trash.
"I still need to take them one at a time. When they bunch up like this, they're too hard to kill, and they don't even drop materials!"
Suddenly, a green sphere appeared in his line of sight. At that moment, everything around him seemed to slow down.
Yang Bo's pupils contracted sharply. He could make out every detail of the thing, and he almost seemed to hear a phantom cry: "Fire in the hole!"
He couldn't help muttering a curse.
"Fuck, they've even got grenades!"
Boom!
The powerful blast tore Yang Bo's body apart.
[Keep Inventory enabled!]
Yang Bo felt his vision go dark, as though darkness had swallowed him whole. Then his eyes snapped open. Looking at the familiar cobblestone ceiling, he knew he was lying in his bed at home.
"Did my respawn point change? Can beds outside the game record respawn points too? I'll have to be careful where I sleep from now on!"
He got out of bed, took out a cigarette, and lit it. Glancing at the [Vampire Blood] in his inventory, he decided to raise his hunter level to level two first. The [Vampire Blood] he'd collected during this trip to the bar was more than enough to get him there, with some left over.
"Now that I know where their lair is, things will be a lot easier!"
"Once I reach level two, I'll go explore the Vampire Lair as a Special Dungeon!"
