"Joker?"
Although Yat was new, he had heard how terrifying Gotham City's king of crime was.
"But descriptions that outrageous have to be deliberate exaggerations, don't they? Like the ghost stories every school has, or the 'urban legends' every city has."
"Urban legends?"
His coworker laughed.
"Yat, where did you live before coming to Gotham?"
"Me? Tokyo."
Hearing that, his coworkers immediately understood why Yat thought that way.
"Of course they're not just stories. Joker is a genuine devil. He doesn't even commit crimes for revenge or anything like that. He does it purely to satisfy his twisted sense of fun."
"It's a shame Batman doesn't kill. Otherwise..."
"Batman?!" Yat was shocked all over again. "Isn't he an urban legend? A bat phantom in the darkness who randomly protects people walking home at night, but takes their blood as payment, or something..."
"Well..."
His coworker actually couldn't argue with that. Stories about Batman had been circulating in Gotham for years, but few people had actually seen him, and every person he rescued described him differently.
Some said "he" was a muscular man dressed in stealth gear. Others said "he" was a sexy, tall, gorgeous redhead. Still others described a pale vampire with fangs, or a shadowless ghost who appeared and vanished without a trace...
Eventually, someone reached a conclusion-
Batman was a shadowless monster who could turn invisible, had fangs, drank blood like a bat, and could change his sex and build.
As for the possibility that Batman was human...
Sure, some people claimed that, but what human could suffer multiple broken ribs and a leg wound deep enough to expose the bone, then turn up in Gotham's alleys the very next night, bursting with energy and beating would-be criminals into pancakes?
How could a human possibly recover that fast?
