With Danyla's permission, Dreamfyre slowly crawled toward the trembling flock. Then, beneath her searing dragonfire, ten or twenty goats were roasted black.
Even then, Dreamfyre had deliberately controlled the temperature of her dragonfire. The flames she breathed were much paler than their usual blackish blue; otherwise, the goats would have been burned to charcoal.
Though these goats tasted far worse than the seasoned roast mutton on Holy Flame Island, the dragons could hardly be picky while traveling. Dreamfyre soon swallowed all twenty or so goats.
Of course, during the process, the brazenly sociable Myracis snatched one or two for herself. Dreamfyre and the others were long accustomed to her antics, so they showed neither annoyance nor resistance.
Such was the charm of everyone's darling!
Those goats had only half filled Dreamfyre's belly, so she breathed dragonfire a second time, roasting another dozen or so. She swallowed them all in less than fifteen minutes, then withdrew contentedly to one side and began to doze.
The second to step forward was Aposos, the bronze-brown-winged Great Dragon. This was hardly surprising, since both his size and physical features suggested formidable overall fighting strength. His scales, claws, and dragonfire were all among the finest of these young Great Dragons.
As bronze dragonfire gushed forth, another dozen or so goats were immediately roasted to a char. Aposos's appetite had grown considerably, and it took him only half an hour to swallow them all.
Naturally, Myracis did not forget to scrounge a share during the process. Aposos, who was not particularly familiar with her, immediately objected. He let out an angry growl, hoping she would take the hint and leave.
