Chapters 201–225 Vol. 3 Read

Ch. 201Danyla regained consciousness

Danyla regained consciousness after being trapped in a mutated weirwood and used the flame rune to free herself, then watched as violet-red flames transformed her dragons and Dreamfyre. She discovered five pale blue sea dragon eggs, and one cracked open as she touched it.

  • Danyla realized the Three-Eyed Crow had trapped her in the mutated weirwood, where its roots had fused with her body.
  • The flame rune burned the roots away, and Danyla threatened the Three-Eyed Crow and forbade it from entering any weirwood she planted.
  • The flame split into streams that enlarged Myracis, Little Balerion, Vhagar, and Grey Ghost and enhanced their dragon bloodlines.
  • Other flames entered Dreamfyre and five pale blue dragon eggs; Dreamfyre grew to eighty meters and became more powerful.
  • Danyla approached the sea dragon eggs, and the egg she touched cracked open.

Ch. 202A New Dragon Species

Danyla discovered that her Flame Rune had transformed the Ice Dragon Souls and Sea Dragon Eggs into Great Dragons, and she cared for the hatchlings as they emerged. Three eggs hatched into Hognara, Hogdera, and Hogras, while Danyla learned to cook with her Flame Bolt and fed the newborn dragons.

  • Danyla realized the Flame Rune had given Hognara a Great Dragon form and a blood bond with her, then learned that Hognara was hungry.
  • A second egg hatched into Hogdera, whose dark, spiked body and shifting weight suggested he might have a Gravity Divine Ability.
  • Myracis returned with a seal, and Danyla discovered that her Flame Bolt cooked its meat after her attempts to roast it by hand failed.
  • Danyla fed Hognara and Hogdera, then reassured Myracis that she would always be her eldest daughter.
  • A third egg hatched into Hogras, a silver-white dragon covered in purple butterfly markings and rows of sharp barbs, as the other dragons returned with their catches.

Ch. 203Returning with the Light

Danyla hatched two more sea dragons, discovered the sea dragons’ cave and a vast coal deposit, then returned to Westeros as the blizzard ended. She arrived above King’s Landing, where Audrey announced her return to King Jaehaerys.

  • Danyla fed her five young dragons, and the last two eggs hatched into Jormungava and Jormungar.
  • Danyla learned from the mutated weirwood that the Three-Eyed Crow had controlled the sea dragons, and that the female had eaten the male after he died.
  • Danyla explored the sea dragons’ cave, found a huge coal deposit, and decided to claim the peninsula and build a fortress and arsenal there.
  • Danyla left Little Balerion and the others to guard the cave, then flew toward Bear Island with Dreamfyre and Myracis carrying the sea dragon’s head and the young dragons.
  • Danyla reached Bear Island and then hurried toward King’s Landing as the blizzard ended and sunlight returned.
  • Danyla appeared above King’s Landing, and Audrey excitedly told King Jaehaerys that the princess was back.

Ch. 204The eternal sun

Danyla returned to King's Landing with the Sea Dragon's head after ending the Long Night and Winter, and the people hailed her as the eternal sun. She reunited with King Jaehaerys and arranged to plant the Sea Dragon's mutated weirwood in the Godswood, leaving part of its head exposed for display.

  • Danyla flew over King's Landing on Dreamfyre with the Sea Dragon's head, announced that the Long Night and Winter were over, and was acclaimed by the people as the eternal sun.
  • Daemon watched Danyla's return and welcomed her back despite grumbling that she had stolen the show.
  • Danyla returned to the Red Keep, where King Jaehaerys embraced her and wept with relief.
  • Danyla told King Jaehaerys that she had slain the Sea Dragon and ended the Long Night and Winter, claiming she had used the Dawn Sword to defeat the White Walkers.
  • Danyla persuaded King Jaehaerys to plant the mutated weirwood from the Sea Dragon's head in the Godswood while leaving part of the head exposed for visitors to see.

Ch. 205War on the Birthing Bed

Danyla returned with sea dragons and young dragons, then used dragon blood and a fire seed to awaken the weirwood, which seemed to improve King Jaehaerys's health. She learned she had been missing for three months and hurried to Dragonstone as Aemma went into labor.

  • Danyla introduced Jormungava and Jormungar, then showed King Jaehaerys the young dragons Myracis had carried.
  • Danyla fed dragon blood and a fire seed into the weirwood, and King Jaehaerys felt his failing health begin to recover.
  • King Jaehaerys told Danyla she had been missing for three months and that Viserys had returned to Dragonstone to be with Aemma.
  • Aemma went into labor, and Viserys carried her toward the Main Keep while Herb and Maester Tigris prepared to assist.
  • Danyla flew to Dragonstone on Dreamfyre, while Prince Daemon questioned King Jaehaerys about whether anyone could be worthy of her.

Ch. 206Peril and opportunity

Danyla returned to Dragonstone and helped Aemma through a difficult labor. As the chapter ended, Aemma gave birth safely, and Danyla and Rhaenyra wept with relief.

  • Danyla flew from King's Landing to Dragonstone on Dreamfyre and hurried to Aemma's room.
  • Myracis returned to Holy Flame Island with the Three Little Ones and rested beneath her weirwood, while Rhaenyra continued cremations and helped manage island work.
  • Viserys welcomed Danyla back and brought her to Aemma's bedside during the labor.
  • Danyla chanted while holding Aemma's hand, easing her discomfort as Herb guided the birth.
  • Aemma gave birth to a crying infant at sunset, and Danyla and Rhaenyra embraced and wept.

Ch. 207Vinylla and Senylla

Danyla’s family welcomed Vinylla, and Viserys agreed to raise Daemon’s daughter Senyra as her twin sister, later calling her Senylla. After ensuring her mother and sisters were safe, Danyla inspected Holy Flame Island and praised Samwell and Medrick for keeping it prosperous through the Long Night and winter.

  • Herb delivered Vinylla, and Danyla placed a magical bead necklace around the newborn’s neck to help protect her.
  • Anne reported that Janna had given birth to a girl, and Danyla proposed raising the baby alongside Vinylla as her twin sister.
  • Rhaenyra supported the plan, and Viserys agreed after discussing it with Aemma; Janna’s daughter Senyra was brought to Dragonstone and raised as Senylla.
  • Viserys placed a white Dragon Egg with silver markings in Vinylla’s cradle, and Rhaenyra left to choose an egg for Senylla.
  • Danyla inspected White Sheep Town and praised Samwell and Medrick for growing Holy Flame Island’s population, farms, castle, and docks despite the crisis.

Ch. 208Changes on Holy Flame Island

Danyla heard Medrick’s account of Holy Flame Island’s prosperity and trade during the Long Night, then reviewed the island’s growing shipbuilding ambitions. The shipyard had begun producing advanced vessels, and Danyla’s designs promised to lay the groundwork for Targaryen supremacy at sea.

  • Medrick reported that White Sheep Town and Holy Flame Island had prospered as Westerosi and Essosi merchants flocked to trade there, even during winter.
  • Danyla considered grooming Medrick to become her Hand of the King.
  • Danyla’s shipyard, built with Braavosi shipwrights near Dragonstone, began producing three-masted ships under the protection of two fortress towers.
  • Danyla shared plans for Nine-masted Dragon Ships, Giant Turtle Ships, and Nemi Lake Ships, each designed for different naval and royal purposes.
  • The shipwrights treasured Danyla’s plans and developed ideas that helped them build ships far beyond the world’s current standards.

Ch. 209The Decision to Develop the Sea Dragon Peninsula

Danyla chose to develop the peninsula where she had killed the Sea Dragon, using its river, coal, and surrounding tundra to house refugees, build a forge, and raise livestock. A large settler fleet departed Holy Flame Island, while Medrick led a faster advance party toward the newly named Cisland Peninsula.

  • Danyla forged Dragonstone after returning to Holy Flame Island, where refugee workers had nearly completed the island’s infrastructure.
  • Samwell and Medrick warned Danyla that the growing refugee population would eventually outstrip Holy Flame Island’s available work and space, and Medrick proposed advancing the Stepstones Plan.
  • Danyla said the Stepstones war required careful timing and made occupying the Sea Dragon Peninsula the immediate priority, citing its coal, the mouth of the Milkwater, and nearby grazing land.
  • Samwell recruited more than three thousand young workers and their families, and Danyla selected skilled smiths to establish a forge using Sea Dragon remains.
  • More than thirty supply ships departed Holy Flame Island, while Medrick led craftsmen and Dragon Guards aboard five Dragonboats through the Riverlands toward the peninsula.
  • Danyla named the destination the Cisland Peninsula, meaning the Sea Dragon Peninsula.

Ch. 210The Sisters' Name Day

Danyla oversaw Holy Flame Island’s trade and sent Medrick to help Essosi grain merchants who had treated her fairly. In King’s Landing, Vinylla and Senylla received their Name Day blessing as the cathedral and a statue honored Danyla, whose experiment suggested that worship could preserve magical energy.

  • Danyla expanded Dragonfire Wine production plans in Oldtown and Sunhouse Castle and prepared sunflower oil for wider sale.
  • Danyla agreed with Medrick that merchants who had sold grain fairly deserved help, and sent him with the Holy Flame Fleet to Essos to buy their grain at normal prices.
  • Viserys, Aemma, Senylla, Danyla, Vinylla, and Rhaenyra flew to King’s Landing for the twins’ Name Day.
  • The High Septon blessed Vinylla and Senylla at the cathedral, and the great houses presented them with lavish gifts.
  • The Church named the cathedral the Great Cathedral of Saint Dany, and a steel statue of Danyla was unveiled outside it.
  • Danyla found that magical energy stopped dissipating from the statue after people began worshipping before it.

Ch. 211An appreciation of Valyrian steel weapons

At a banquet in the Red Keep, Jaehaerys displayed new Valyrian steel armor and weapons, then unexpectedly invested Danyla as Prince of Holy Flame Island and granted her Sunhouse Castle and Oldtown. As Jaehaerys introduced the collection, Corlys worried about Danyla’s growing influence, but Rhaenys welcomed it.

  • Danyla had Ohn’s craftsmen forge the Long Night Ender, a Valyrian steel staff inspired by Star-Eyed Samion’s weapon and techniques.
  • After the twins’ Name Day ceremony, nobles gathered in the Godswood to celebrate the end of the Long Night and view the Valyrian steel collection.
  • Jaehaerys praised Danyla for ending the Long Night and welcoming refugees, then named her Prince of Holy Flame Island and granted her Sunhouse Castle and Oldtown.
  • Bennard Stark and numerous noble houses rose to acclaim Danyla as their Eternal Sun, and Rhaenys toasted her as the Holy Flame Prince.
  • Corlys warned Rhaenys that Danyla’s power could threaten the Targaryens if she married outside the family, but Rhaenys said Danyla had already won the support of much of the realm.

Ch. 212Reactions from All Sides

The great houses reacted to Princess Danyla receiving a landed title, weighing the danger of opposing her against the advantage of supporting her. The chapter ended with Duke Tully choosing to strengthen his ties with Danyla as her power outstripped that of the other houses and dragonriders.

  • Bennard urged Duke Eddard to support Danyla, arguing that House Stark should not remain neutral, while Eddard teased him about fancying her.
  • Borros complained about Danyla receiving Oldtown, but Duke Boremund warned him to keep quiet and not risk Storm's End by provoking her.
  • Duke Lannister berated his sons for failing to win Danyla's favor and lamented that the lions of the Westerlands might die out.
  • Jeyne Arryn recognized that Danyla was the first woman granted a landed title and said the Vale should support her.
  • Lady Florence criticized Duke Tyrell's belated public support and told him that House Tyrell could no longer play both sides.
  • Duke Tully decided to avoid opposing Danyla and use his influence to maintain a close relationship with her.

Ch. 213The story of Valyrian steel swords

King Jaehaerys announced that the royal house had reconstructed the method of forging Valyrian steel, using records and dragon remains, and the Lannister duke asked him to reforge Bright-Roar. The nobles learned about the rarity and history of Valyrian steel weapons and armor, and the chapter ended with them marveling at the royal house’s three suits of armor.

  • King Jaehaerys saw that the houses had outwardly supported Danyla and signaled Earl Beesbury to proceed with their presentation.
  • Earl Beesbury praised the royal house’s new Valyrian equipment, and King Jaehaerys announced that its craftsmen had reconstructed the method of forging Valyrian steel.
  • The Duke of House Lannister knelt before King Jaehaerys and asked him to reforge Bright-Roar, the house’s lost ancestral sword.
  • The chapter described the origins, forging, scarcity, value, and notable surviving Valyrian steel weapons in Westeros and Essos.
  • The assembled nobles gazed in wonder at the royal house’s three suits of Valyrian steel armor.

Ch. 214A Marriage Alliance, Just Like That?!

King Jaehaerys proposed marrying Rhaenyra and her sister to Jason and Tyland Lannister, sparking refusals and a contest among the nobles. Danyla recognized his scheme and declared that any man who wished to marry her must abandon his surname and that their children could bear only the name Targaryen.

  • King Jaehaerys praised House Lannister and proposed a marriage alliance between Jason and Tyland and the twin princesses.
  • Viserys and Queen Aemma refused to arrange the girls' marriages, while Daemon and Rhaenys voiced their opposition to the Lannisters' claim.
  • Bennard and several nobles offered their houses as marriage partners, and Earl Blackwood and Earl Brune nearly fought over the proposal.
  • Danyla realized King Jaehaerys had used the marriage proposal to turn the nobles against one another and summoned Dreamfyre.
  • Danyla declared that her future husband must have an unblemished background, give up his surname, and have children who bore only the name Targaryen.

Ch. 215The second peach

Danyla rejected Jaehaerys’s marriage scheme and returned to find the nobles quarreling over who would receive the first Valyrian weapon. Jaehaerys revealed that Danyla was expected to solve the forging problem, and she quietly instructed Earl Beesbury.

  • Danyla flew over King’s Landing with the infant Senylla after declaring that anyone who married her would have to marry into the royal house.
  • Jaehaerys ended the marriage negotiations and promised that the royal house would help forge one Valyrian weapon each year.
  • The Duke of Lannister tried to claim the first weapon, prompting the other nobles to argue and throw wine cups at one another.
  • Danyla returned and teased Jaehaerys about his promises, and he said she would have to handle the problems because he had granted her Oldtown.
  • Danyla whispered a solution to Earl Beesbury, who reacted with excitement.

Ch. 216Starting with cultural infiltration

Earl Beesbury explained that forging Valyrian steel required dragon remains, dragonfire, and the power of devout faith, prompting disputes over the demands and cremation rites. He urged the nobles to build Cremation Towers with Holy Flame Island’s help while they waited for a chance to forge Valyrian weapons.

  • After securing King Jaehaerys's approval, Earl Beesbury told the nobles that forging Valyrian steel required magical remains, Great Dragon fire, and devout faith.
  • Earl Beesbury said each sword needed at least a thousand jin of Great Dragon bones, leaving most houses unable to meet the first requirement.
  • He explained that dragonfire shaped the steel and that cremation rites at Cremation Towers could imbue steel blanks with Valyrian properties over time.
  • The High Septon objected that the rites violated the Faith of the Seven, but the nobles rejected his arguments and he conceded.
  • Earl Beesbury urged the houses to build Cremation Towers and said Holy Flame Island could advise them, while only Princess Danyla's Great Dragon could currently attend one without a Dragon Warrior's help.

Ch. 217Auctioning the slots

Samwell offered three Cremation Tower slots to the great houses, and Lord Frey proposed awarding them to the highest bidders. After Danyla promised that Himolos would guard the first tower, Duke Lannister and Earl Reyne began bidding against each other.

  • Samwell announced that Holy Flame Island could offer only three Cremation Tower slots, prompting nobles from the Riverlands, Reach, and Westerlands to compete for them.
  • Earl Reyne proposed settling the allocation with duels, but Lord Frey argued for an auction, and Samwell agreed to award the slots to the highest bidders.
  • Samwell explained that each tower cost five hundred thousand gold dragons to build and required another five hundred thousand each year to maintain its dragon and staff.
  • Danyla promised to send Himolos to guard the first Cremation Tower, increasing the nobles' eagerness to secure a slot.
  • Duke Lannister bid three hundred thousand gold dragons for the first slot, and Earl Reyne countered with a bid of one million.

Ch. 218The wealth harvester

The great houses bid enormous sums for the first two Cremation Tower slots, which went to House Lannister and House Tyrell. The auction for the third slot remained unresolved as Samwell introduced its dragon guardian, Bronze Tyrant Aposos.

  • Earl Reyne, Duke Tyrell, and Lord Frey drove the bidding for the first slot above five million gold dragons before Duke Lannister won it with a bid of ten million.
  • Danyla introduced Antheros, the Copper Storm, as guardian of the second Cremation Tower, and House Tyrell outbid House Reyne to secure the slot for nine million gold dragons.
  • The remaining houses competed for the third slot as House Tuck's representative threatened to use household knights, and Earl Reyne traded insults with him.
  • Earl Reyne bid nine million and five hundred thousand gold dragons, and Samwell stepped forward to introduce Bronze Tyrant Aposos as the third tower's guardian.

Ch. 219Duke Stark Finally Made Up His Mind

Lord Frey’s bid sparked a fight with Earl Reyne, which Urrax ended by knocking Reyne and his guards unconscious. Pressured by Marquis Bolton and Bennard, Duke Eddard agreed to exchange Lonely Mountain and the lands around Moat Cailin for the final slot.

  • Lord Frey raised the bid to nine million five hundred thousand and one Gold Dragons, provoking Earl Reyne with insults about House Reyne’s scandalous past.
  • Earl Reyne drew his sword and charged Lord Frey, but Urrax sent Reyne and several of his guards crashing through tables.
  • King Jaehaerys praised Urrax, fed him roast lamb, and ordered Samwell to resume the bidding.
  • Marquis Bolton offered Duke Eddard five million Gold Dragons to help secure the final slot, while Bennard urged him to consider the North’s future.
  • Duke Eddard agreed to exchange Lonely Mountain and the lands around Moat Cailin for the final slot.

Ch. 220Shocking everyone

Duke Eddard offered two northern estates in exchange for a Cremation Tower slot, and Danyla secured additional land around Long Lake before assigning the third slot to the North. After the feast began, Walda reunited with Danyla and asked her forgiveness.

  • Lady Florence and the other nobles questioned Duke Eddard's decision, while Lord Frey explained that Danyla could make the neglected northern lands productive and House Bolton would pay gold for a Valyrian weapon.
  • Walda suggested Duke Eddard was using the exchange to secure House Bolton's loyalty, and Lord Frey praised her insight before sending her back to Danyla.
  • Danyla accepted Duke Eddard's offer only after requiring the lands and forests from both shores of Long Lake to the Kingsroad to be included within Lonely Mountain's boundaries.
  • Duke Eddard agreed, and Danyla awarded the third Cremation Tower slot to the North as Bennard watched her; King Jaehaerys's dragon Urrax warned Bennard with a shriek.
  • King Jaehaerys declared the feast open, and Danyla left Senyra with Aemma before meeting Walda, Maggie, and Meya by a fountain.
  • Walda apologized to Danyla after explaining through her worn appearance that she and the others had spent months searching for her.

Ch. 221The Wargs at Danyla's Side

Danyla welcomed Walda, Maggie, and Maggie’s sister after their months-long search for her, then revealed a gift of large cats and learned that Walda and Shirei had become wargs. The chapter ended with Danyla’s allies gathered around her, several of them able to skinchange into animals.

  • Danyla embraced Walda and thanked her and Bear Island’s people for searching through the Long Night, and she arranged grain seeds and farming help for the island.
  • Danyla welcomed Maggie and her sister, appointed them personal guards alongside Walda, and led them to her rooms for a gift.
  • Danyla found seven maids waiting with large cats, while Walda’s sable startled the cats and revealed how much it had grown.
  • Danyla discovered that Walda could warg into Sable, which had helped them avoid danger during their search.
  • Shirei told Danyla that she could warg into King Jaehaerys’s giant steppe eagle, while Dorea Sand and the others could control cats and birds.

Ch. 222A new style of women's armor

Danyla inspected new armor for her female guards, while Maggie clashed with Harold and boasted about her strength. The chapter ended with Dorea reporting that Earl Reyne and House Peake planned to ambush House Frey because Urrax had injured Reyne in a sensitive place.

  • Danyla learned that Shirei had strong True Dragon blood and potential for Dragonriding, and that she studied alongside Margaery.
  • Margaery and Harold brought Danyla fifty new suits of armor made with Valyrian steel chain mail and Lizard-Lion hide.
  • Walda, Maggie, and Meya tried on the armor, and Maggie threatened Harold after catching him laughing at her remarks.
  • Meya made Maggie apologize to Danyla, who warned that Harold might make her martial arts lessons difficult.
  • Dorea told Danyla that Earl Reyne planned to join House Peake in ambushing House Frey, explaining that Urrax had injured Reyne in a vital part.

Ch. 223The dwarfs of the Red Keep

Oggian built a dwarf troupe in the Red Keep that used its secret passages and performances to gather intelligence across the Seven Kingdoms. Its network discovered why Earl Tuck had agreed to join Earl Reyne’s plot against House Frey, leaving the alliance’s motives exposed.

  • Harold used information from Dorea Sand and the other skinchangers to map and repair the Red Keep’s secret passages, with children from the Almshouse helping in the narrow tunnels.
  • Oggian recruited dwarfs as court fools and housed them in the Red Keep, where they trained for performances while secretly spying on officials and noble households.
  • With Danyla’s funding, the dwarfs formed a theater troupe that expanded its intelligence network through the Seven Kingdoms.
  • Dorea Sand’s birds uncovered Earl Reyne and Earl Tuck’s plan to join forces against House Frey.
  • The dwarf network learned that Earl Tuck had accepted Earl Reyne’s offer because piracy, lost ships, and winter had brought House Tuck close to bankruptcy.

Ch. 224Change had already quietly begun

At the Twin Princesses’ Name Day celebration, the nobles gathered as Danyla’s growing influence reshaped the Red Keep and the balance of power across the Seven Kingdoms. Viserys reunited with Earl Lyonel Strong, whose family had come to settle in King’s Landing, while Rhaenyra met Harwin and Larys again.

  • The nobles celebrated the end of the Long Night and winter as Danyla’s people and forces strengthened her influence in the Red Keep and beyond.
  • King Jaehaerys watched the gathered great lords maneuver and judged that House Targaryen’s strength made them no threat.
  • Viserys and Aemma presented the Twin Princesses to the guests, while Rhaenyra tried to fulfill her duties and come to terms with her feelings toward Danyla.
  • Earl Lyonel Strong arrived with his family, and Viserys warmly welcomed his childhood friend and offered him a place in the Tower of the Hand.
  • Rhaenyra spoke with Harwin Strong, who reassured her that his broken arm had healed, and met his younger brother Larys.

Ch. 225Undercurrents stirred

Rhaenyra met Harwin Strong’s siblings and felt an uncanny reaction to their wet nurse, Alys Rivers, before Danyla arrived with her newly equipped Female Soldiers. Danyla’s growing wealth and military power unsettled the nobles, while King Jaehaerys gave Daemon the sword Cold Night as a badge of his garrison command.

  • Rhaenyra greeted Harwin Strong, his siblings Lily and Jilly, and their wet nurse Alys Rivers, whose presence stirred an intense sensation in her.
  • Danyla arrived at the Godswood with her Female Soldiers and displayed their armor and Valyrian steel imitation swords to King Jaehaerys and the nobles.
  • The nobles worried that Danyla’s new weapons, wealth, and holdings at Oldtown and Sunhouse Castle were making House Targaryen too powerful.
  • Daemon asked King Jaehaerys and Danyla for Valyrian equipment, and Jaehaerys granted him Cold Night to carry as Commander of the King's Landing Garrison.
  • Danyla warned Daemon that Cold Night belonged to the garrison command, then teased him by naming herself, Jaehaerys, and Viserys as the only people who could remove him.
