Ch. 441The voice of the Night's Watch

Daemon met with Kasso Blackber at Castle Black and defended Danyla’s support for the Night’s Watch and her treatment of the Free Folk. Meanwhile, Danyla flew Beyond the Wall on Hognara and continued managing the remains and magical energy of the Frost Dragons.

  • Kasso Blackber thanked Daemon for Holy Flame Island’s food, supplies, livestock, seeds, and recruits, which had improved the Night’s Watch and restored cultivation in the New Gift.
  • Kasso praised Danyla’s rule, and Daemon reflected on how difficult it had been to manage her affairs before entrusting much of the work to her officials and the Small Council.
  • Kasso warned Daemon that the Wildlings exiled to Essos might eventually threaten the Seven Kingdoms, but Daemon argued that the Night’s Watch and Free Folk should focus on the White Walkers and other northern dangers.
  • Danyla rode the recovered Hognara Beyond the Wall as the dragon’s ice-aspected energy continued to grow stronger after she fed her the Frost Dragon’s primal ice flame.
  • Danyla preserved three magical ice crystals in Oldtown and used Frost Dragon corpses to grow weirwoods in Hellholt and Reclea City, increasing rainfall in both regions.

Ch. 442A marriage torn apart

After learning Daemon had fathered two sons with the Hightower sisters and given them dragon eggs, Danyla annulled their marriage and seized Pentos. She left Alicent and Emily alive and sent them to the Summer Isles, while Aegon and Aemond remained imprisoned with their dragons.

  • Danyla annulled her marriage to Daemon and stripped him of authority over the territories under Holy Flame Island’s control.
  • Aegon and Aemond showed Alicent and Emily their newly hatched dragons, Blazefire and Balerion.
  • Danyla flew to Pentos with her dragons and the Holy Flame Fleet, and her forces captured the city.
  • The nobles of Pentos stripped and paraded Alicent and Emily while imprisoning Aegon and Aemond in iron cages with their dragons.
  • Danyla rebuked the nobles for humiliating the Hightower sisters, ordered the sisters sent to the Summer Isles, and kept the boys imprisoned.

Ch. 443The Principality of Andalos

Danyla founded the Principality of Andalos, assigning its territory to her youngest daughter Ishys while searching the Velvet Mountains for traces of great dragons. She found no dragon eggs, and Daemon arrived in a towering rage.

  • Danyla ordered the captured Alys, Emily, Aegon, and Aemond taken away, while the caged Blazefire thrashed against his bars.
  • Danyla claimed Pentos and Angus, united them as the Principality of Andalos, and bestowed the territory upon Ishys.
  • Danyla built Dragonstone Avenue and sent an army to establish a base on the Upper Rhoyne, where she planned a capital for the Principality of Angus.
  • While surveying the Velvet Mountains, Danyla found signs that great dragons had lived there and searched for their possible eggs.
  • After more than half a month of searching without finding anything, Danyla was confronted by an enraged Daemon.

Ch. 444Parting on good terms

Danyla and Daemon ended their relationship after clashing over his actions and the fate of two dragon eggs, and their split reignited ambitions among rival powers. Danyla focused on developing her territories, building roads and reviving cities across Essos.

  • Daemon confronted Danyla over her decision to give away two dragon eggs, and they traded accusations about their love and priorities.
  • Danyla told Daemon they should part, and when he charged at her on Quicksilver, Hognara blasted the dragon with icy breath; Daemon then flew away.
  • While Danyla was absent, Daemon took Blazefire and Balerion from Pentos, claiming them because his sons had hatched them, but Danyla dismissed his claim.
  • News of Danyla and Daemon's rift spread across both continents, and rival powers began reconsidering their ambitions.
  • Danyla invested Pentos's seized wealth in infrastructure and arranged ten years of dividends for its registered residents, drawing immigrants to the city.
  • Danyla expanded Dragonstone Avenue and developed Andas City, Ghoyan Drohe, and Ny Sar into settlements, trading hubs, and defended centers of commerce.

Ch. 445Curse of the Rhoyne

Danyla learned from Priest Marco that Prince Garin’s ancient curse was raised against Valyria and awakened when she brought great dragons to the Rhoyne. As the river’s magic surged, Hognara drew strength from it, and Danyla’s eyes began to turn blue.

  • Danyla examined dragonfire-scarred pillars in Ny Sar as Marco warned her that their magic had become a curse.
  • Marco showed Danyla a vision of Valyria’s destruction of the Rhoynar and Prince Garin sacrificing himself to curse the twelve pillars.
  • Marco explained that the curse caused floods and greyscale outbreaks against those who tried to claim the Rhoyne, and that Danyla’s dragons had awakened it.
  • Danyla recalled reports of discolored rivers, dead fish, rising greyscale cases, and ghostly figures along the Rhoyne.
  • The pillars glowed blue as the river’s magic gathered around Hognara, strengthening her iceflame source, while Danyla’s eyes turned deep blue.

Ch. 446The newborn song of water

Danyla performed a blood ritual beside the Rhoyne, bonding a weirwood, Hognara, and the river’s magic to calm the river and restore Ny Sar. The ritual awakened the Old Man of the River, whom the Rhoynar descendants recognized and worshipped.

  • Danyla explored the Rhoyne on Hognara and learned that the river’s growing power had brought disasters and disease to its basin.
  • Marco warned Danyla about poisonous purple river weeds as she entered the Rhoyne at Ny Sar.
  • Danyla placed a weirwood sapling in a giant turtle’s shell and combined her blood, Hognara’s blood, and the Rhoynar priests’ blood in a ritual.
  • Danyla sang a chant that caused the Rhoyne to stop briefly and filled the weirwood with magical energy.
  • The weirwood grew rapidly, the river weeds vanished, and the waters cleared as Ny Sar emerged from the mist.
  • A massive green-haired turtle rose from the river, and the Rhoynar descendants identified him as the Old Man of the River and prayed to him.

Ch. 447The Story of the Old Man of the River

The chapter describes Rhoynar beliefs about the Crab King and the Old Man of the River, tracing their rivalry, cooperation during the Long Night, and the Old Man’s rise to rule. It ends by explaining how their legends reflected Rhoynar ideas about water, changing power, and wise governance.

  • The Rhoynar preserved their religion through local rituals and oral legends, including stories of the Crab King and the Old Man of the River.
  • The Crab King ruled the underwater inhabitants until the Old Man of the River defeated him and took his place.
  • During the Long Night, an unnamed hero persuaded Mother Rhoyne’s children and consorts, including both gods, to sing together and restore the Rhoyne.
  • The Old Man of the River’s victory came to represent wisdom and sustainable water management, while the Crab King remained part of the Rhoynar pantheon.
  • After the Rhoynar migrated to Dorne, their descendants adapted both gods’ images to their new environment.

Ch. 448The Rhoyne's Gift

Danyla bonded with the giant turtles, lifted the Rhoyne’s curse, and was acclaimed queen of the Rhoynar. She led the people south to Chayorn, where the turtles began uncovering Prince Garin’s golden cage and other lost treasures before a violent undercurrent surged from the depths.

  • Danyla bonded with the green-haired turtle, and more giant turtles surfaced as the people hailed her as queen of the Rhoyne.
  • Danyla saw visions of Rhoynar history and bloodlines, including Nymeria and Lysandro, while the weirwood fused with the turtle and she spat out a blue crystal.
  • Priest Marco read an ancient Rhoynar proverb in the clear water, and Rhoynar descendants swore their families would serve Danyla.
  • Danyla led the giant turtles and people south along the Rhoyne, salvaging treasures and reaching the whirlpool near Chayorn.
  • The turtles uncovered Prince Garin’s golden cage and numerous treasures and remains, but a powerful undercurrent suddenly surged up and knocked them askew.

Ch. 449The gloom lifted from the Rhoyne

Danyla used the Water Goddess and a Weirwood sapling to contain the Greyscale mist on the Rhoyne, then recovered a fossilized Dragon Egg from a sunken cage. The Rhoynar celebrated her as their queen, and she ended the salvage expedition until more Weirwood saplings could be grown.

  • As the Rhoyne released Greyscale mist, Danyla warned everyone to retreat and used her blood and the Water Goddess to make a Weirwood absorb the disease.
  • Danyla treated infected people with the Weirwood’s roots, and the mist dispersed as the Giant Turtles brought the golden cage ashore.
  • Danyla opened the cage and found a fossilized blue-violet Dragon Egg; Marco recalled that Rhoynar princes had once tried to hatch dragons.
  • Marco explained the Rhoynar’s lost dragon-breeding efforts, and Danyla said the egg might witness the Rhoynar’s rise again.
  • The Rhoynar hailed Danyla as their queen, and she ended the expedition because the Weirwood saplings had run out.

Ch. 450Territorial Expansion Had to Pause

Danyla’s wealth and infrastructure had transformed her territories, but the cost of developing them forced her to pause further expansion along the Rhoyne. As Rhoynar factions returned and eyed the Golden Fields, she planned to focus her next efforts on completing the route to Ny Sar and opening the fertile region for development.

  • Danyla’s education, resettlement, and infrastructure programs had made her territories prosperous, while Flea Bottom was demolished and replaced with affordable housing and modern water and sewage systems.
  • Danyla spent the proceeds from selling Rhoynar treasures on developing Ny Sar, while her greater treasure reserves remained untouched in Holy Flame Island’s vaults.
  • After Danyla claimed the Rhoyne, more than a dozen factions claiming descent from Rhoynar princes gathered near Chayorn.
  • Danyla halted further salvage and expansion because she lacked the manpower and funds, and the curse still prevented other factions from occupying much of the Rhoyne basin.
  • Danyla prepared to develop the Golden Fields after Dragonstone Avenue connected Myr Fortress and Ny Sar, while factions claiming descent from the Prince of Dorne also eyed the region.

Ch. 451The Shrouded Lord's Spies

Tyrarion uncovered Shrouded Lord spies hiding in a ruined temple in Ny Sar, where Danyla confronted them as their own greyscale weapon turned against them. The spies revealed their families were controlled by the Shrouded Lord, but their fate remained unresolved as the chapter ended.

  • Myracis, Caraxesos, Drogosarn, and Tyrarion flew over Ny Sar, where Myracis and Caraxesos thrilled the crowd with aerial displays.
  • Tyrarion attacked an abandoned temple, exposed a group of hooded men, and trapped them with Dragonfire.
  • The men told Danyla that they served the Shrouded Lord and had come to gather information.
  • Danyla shattered clay jars with a Fire Seed, releasing gray gas that recoiled from the Dragonfire and engulfed the spies.
  • The spies began developing greyscale and begged Danyla for help, explaining that the Shrouded Lord controlled their families and threatened to turn them into Stone Men.

Ch. 452Mother and children reunited

Danyla destroyed the Shrouded Lord’s greyscale-spreading agents, established a treatment and quarantine system, and later her children traveled to Ny Sar to invite her to Reclea City’s completion ceremony. The chapter ends as Vermithor senses dragons ahead and gives a warning roar.

  • Danyla ordered her dragons to burn the hooded infiltrators, and the Dragon Egg Fossil absorbed magical energy from their deaths.
  • Danyla searched the Rhoyne basin, discovered more than a dozen disease-spreading groups, and spread a weirwood-based treatment for greyscale.
  • Danyla sent patients to a dragonstone quarantine zone near Velonserys, where healers and students helped develop a seaside medical town.
  • The Shrouded Lord warned his followers not to provoke Danyla again and said he would await her in the Sorrowful Domain.
  • In the spring of year 111, Aurelion, Isilia, and Otheryon traveled from Reclea City toward Ny Sar to ask Danyla to preside over the city’s completion ceremony.
  • Vermithor sensed dragons ahead and roared a warning as the siblings traveled along Dragonstone Avenue.

Ch. 453Hadak Manor

Danyla reunited with her children and their dragons, and Isilia joyfully rode Caraxesos through the skies. The family accepted Mrs. Hadak’s invitation to stay at Hadak Manor, where they learned how much her estate had grown.

  • Cannibal circled the carriage, but Isilia recognized her dragons, and Danyla arrived with them on Myracis.
  • Danyla embraced Isilia, Aurelion, and Otheryon, and told them their dragons had grown enough to ride again.
  • Isilia flew Caraxesos for more than two hours, while Drogosarn and Tyrarion followed her into the sky.
  • Mrs. Hadak arrived with her unmarried children and invited Danyla and her family to stay at Hadak Manor.
  • Mrs. Hadak described her family’s work and the manor’s extensive farmland, pasture, and lotus lake as they approached the estate.

Ch. 454The monsters of the Lalulu River

Danyla visited the Hadak family’s thriving manor with her children and shared a rare peaceful moment with them by a lotus lake. When roars revealed river monsters in the Lalulu River, she and the children rode their great dragons into a mist-filled valley, where strange miasma surrounded them.

  • Mrs. Hadak thanked Danyla for the support that had helped the family prosper and establish Hadak Manor in the Golden Fields.
  • Hana and Danyla’s children gathered lotus flowers for Danyla, and the triplets enjoyed a carefree moment with their mother.
  • Haya identified a distant roar as the sound of Lalulu River monsters, and Danyla and the triplets summoned their great dragons to investigate.
  • Danyla led the dragons into a river valley, where magical energy and thick mist concealed the monsters.
  • The nine great dragons spread out through the valley as mist and miasma clung to them, and Hogdera smashed a jagged peak with his tail.

Ch. 455A fierce battle with the wyverns

Danyla and the triplets were ambushed by wyverns in the mist-filled river valley, and their dragons fought back. The battle continued as Regosern and Sunfyre faced four long-winged wyverns.

  • Danyla warned Isilia, Aurelion, and Otheryon to climb as dozens of wyverns emerged from the mist.
  • Tyrarion attacked a sharp-beaked wyvern, and Isilia wounded it with Moonlight Radiance before Tyrarion tore into its neck and chest.
  • Aurelion rode Vermithor as the Great Dragon killed two long-winged wyverns and began eating them.
  • Regosern shielded Sunfyre from four long-winged wyverns and burned two with its golden dragonfire.
  • Regosern pierced one wyvern through the chest and seized another by the neck.

Ch. 456The Abilities of a New Generation of Great Dragons

Sunfyre struggled against two Longwing Dragons until Regosern intervened, while Regosern was injured by venom and developed resistance after eating his foe. Elsewhere, Cannibal, Otheryon, Termit, and Nefemoon slaughtered the Longwing Dragons that ambushed them.

  • Sunfyre fought two Longwing Dragons, biting one badly and ramming the other, but a tail wound left him increasingly numb and unsteady.
  • Regosern killed Sunfyre’s wounded opponent, was sprayed with corrosive venom, then killed and devoured the Longwing Dragon, gaining resistance to its venom.
  • Sunfyre killed his remaining opponent and brought its carcass beside Regosern to eat, despite severe injuries.
  • Cannibal killed two Longwing Dragons while Otheryon blinded three others with Starlight Radiance.
  • Termit pinned down and killed one burning Longwing Dragon, then ate it.
  • Nefemoon broke another Longwing Dragon’s spine and neck before breathing pale dragonfire onto it.

Ch. 457Great Dragons versus Striped Pterosaurs

Isilia’s three Great Dragons killed a Beaked Pterosaur, while Danyla and her dragons fought a coordinated flock led by two giant pterosaurs. Urrax injured the female leader, and the battle continued as Hogdera and Hogras held back the flock.

  • At Isilia’s direction, Drogosarn and Caraxesos attacked the Beaked Pterosaur’s wings while Tyrarion held onto its neck.
  • The three Great Dragons ruined the Beaked Pterosaur’s wings, and it crashed into the mountaintop; Isilia then directed her dragons to feast on its carcass.
  • Danyla’s group was surrounded by more than twenty striped pterosaurs, whose giant male and female leaders coordinated the attack.
  • The male pterosaur sprayed venom at Myracis, but she vaporized it with purple-black dragonfire.
  • The giant female pterosaur attacked Urrax, who dodged, struck her with dragonfire, and climbed onto her back to claw and burn her.
  • The female pterosaur called the flock to assist, but Hogdera and Hogras blocked the others with dragonfire.

Ch. 458The battle grew fiercer

Myracis, Danyla, and Hognara fought the wyverns as their leader drove them into a frenzied assault. Hognara discovered that absorbing frozen venom strengthened her fire-attribute origin and began harvesting it in battle.

  • Hognara froze three wyverns, giving Myracis more room to attack, while giant crocodiles and anacondas fought over the fallen prey.
  • Danyla illuminated the battlefield with Proud Sun, and Myracis used the opening to burn and kill several wyverns.
  • Myracis shielded Danyla from a rain of venom and fought a great dragon while Hognara kept the giant male wyvern at bay.
  • The male wyvern's roar sent the surrounding wyverns charging recklessly, and one injured Hognara before he struck her with poisonous ice.
  • Danyla fired another burst of golden flame and readied an enchanted bolt as Myracis killed a great dragon and attacked the male wyvern again.
  • Hognara's iceflame transformed the venom she absorbed into fire-attribute energy, strengthening her origin, so she began freezing and swallowing more venom.

Ch. 459The dragon battle's twists and turns

Danyla and Isilia’s dragons broke the wyverns’ encirclement and killed the Female Giant Wyvern, but the flock’s enormous Ancestor arrived and turned the fight against them. The Ancestor’s corrosive venom struck Vermithor as Aurelion and Otheryon attacked her head with their swords.

  • Danyla reorganized her dragons as Urrax and Hogdera took wounds fighting off the wyverns surrounding them.
  • Hognara froze the Male Giant Wyvern’s venom, while Isilia sent Tyrarion, Drogosarn, and Caraxesos to help attack the Female Giant Wyvern.
  • Vermithor and Cannibal broke through the encirclement, and Termit, Nevsane, and Regosern joined the others in bringing down the Female Giant Wyvern.
  • As the dragons began slaughtering the remaining wyverns, their deaths strengthened the pulses of life in the dragon egg fossil beside Danyla.
  • The Ancestor swooped down, repelled Vermithor and Cannibal’s dragonfire, and corroded Vermithor’s left wing with venom.
  • Aurelion and Otheryon swung their fallen star iron swords, sending streaks of scorching red flame into the Ancestor’s head.

Ch. 460The outcome was decided

Danyla and the Great Dragons defeated the Wyvern Flock’s remaining members and badly wounded the Colossal Wyvern. When the Dragon Egg Fossil pulsed with energy, the Colossal Wyvern became fixated on Danyla, who used the distraction to send her children after the other Wyverns.

  • Cannibal and Vermithor attacked the Colossal Wyvern while Myracis and Hognara brought down the Male Giant Wyvern, and Hognara tore out his poison sac and heart.
  • Danyla ordered her sons to help pin down the Colossal Wyvern and Isilia to lead the other Great Dragons in finishing off the remaining Wyverns.
  • Isilia and the Great Dragons killed the remaining Wyverns as Vermithor, Cannibal, Myracis, and Hognara wounded and restrained the Colossal Wyvern.
  • The Dragon Egg Fossil pulsed with energy, and the Colossal Wyvern broke free and charged at Danyla, who evaded her with Myracis while Hognara froze her.
  • Danyla told her children to finish off the other Wyverns and left the Colossal Wyvern to herself.
