Background

Shi Ji is an Intercepting Sect immortal and the master of the child attendants Bi Yun and Cai Yun. Despite her reputation for misfortune, she is widely regarded as kind-hearted and virtuous. She disciplines Bi Yun for asking Gu Changqing for a treasure, stressing that one must cultivate the heart before cultivating the Dao. 4

Gu Changqing gives Bi Yun and Cai Yun defensive Spiritual Treasures, then presents Shi Ji with the Merit Saint Garment in recognition of her compassion. Though reluctant to accept such a valuable gift, Shi Ji vows to brave any danger should Gu Changqing ever need her aid. Tong Tian subsequently permits her to cultivate at Biyou Palace. 4 5

During the Tribulation, Shi Ji decides to kill Jiang Ziya in Gu Changqing’s place and bear the resulting karma herself. Before departing for Kunlun, she entrusts treasures to Bi Yun and Cai Yun and sends them away, intending to settle the matter alone. 6

Her attempt fails when Taiyi Zhenren intervenes. Shi Ji is severely pressured despite the Merit Saint Garment, but Gu Changqing arrives in time to save her and resolves the karmic dispute with Jiang Ziya. He later gives Shi Ji the Primordial Chaos World Piercing Shuttle. 7 10

Ran Deng later seals Shi Ji and suppresses her Merit Saint Garment with the Spiritual Pivot Lamp and Glass Lamp. Gu Changqing rescues her after attaining the Mixed Origin realm, ordering her to return to Chaoge while he confronts Ran Deng and Yuanshi. 29

Personality

Shi Ji is compassionate, principled, and protective of her disciples. She is strict with Bi Yun when he behaves improperly, but accepts Gu Changqing’s gifts for Bi Yun and Cai Yun because she cannot bear to deny the children an opportunity to protect themselves. 4

She is deeply loyal and willing to sacrifice herself for those she considers family. Her journey to Kunlun to kill Jiang Ziya is motivated by a desire to spare Gu Changqing from karmic consequences, even though she recognizes that Jiang Ziya is not evil. 6

Although initially hesitant about leading an army due to her lack of military experience, Shi Ji accepts the Chong City command once assured that she need only confront enemy cultivators. In battle, her formerly gentle disposition gives way to fierce decisiveness, particularly after facing repeated attacks from the Chan Sect and Western Sect. 32 34

Shi Ji continues to show respect toward virtuous opponents. Even while defending Chong City, she formally greets Xuandu and acknowledges his cultivation and character. 35
