Title and Clan Position
- Second Elder is the Yun Clan elder designation held by Yun Yuan, who sits among the clan’s core elders at major ceremonies 1 41.
- His branch is represented among the Twelve Young Masters by Yun Shuanghua, the eighth-ranked young master and his nephew 49.
- Despite his Immortal Venerable cultivation, he remains subject to Yun Huang’s authority: Yun Huang can deny him an audience and prevent him from entering Perching Phoenix Hall 38.
Background / History
When Yun Qing’s Chaos Dao Embryo and Primordial Double Pupils awakened at birth, Yun Yuan personally took him into the Primordial Chaos Ancient Cave. He instructed Yun Qing there for more than a decade, returning with him for the clan’s Spiritual Assessment Ceremony. Their cultivation methods follow similar paths 1 2 3.
The long seclusion made their relationship far closer than an assigned guardianship. Yun Yuan watched Yun Qing grow from a toddler into a young cultivator and came to regard him like his own child. He supplied Yun Qing with protective puppets so precious that even members of his own branch had not received comparable care 38.
Yun Yuan also has a nephew, Yun Shuanghua. His younger brother and sister-in-law died during the Northern Border war, leaving their infant son displaced. Yun Yuan found the child only after considerable difficulty. Aware of Shuanghua’s troubled childhood and sensitive disposition, he later asked Yun Qing to give him extra care 49.
Appearance
- An elderly man with lightly graying hair and beard and a carefree, unrestrained bearing 1.
- Has a goatee, which he strokes during the aptitude ceremony and which bristles when he becomes angry or anxious 2 38.
- His puppet manifestation wears a cloud-patterned Daoist robe 35.
- His usually smiling eyes become sharp and cold when confronting the Twelfth Elder 35.
Personality
Yun Yuan is informal, mischievous, and blunt. He enters Yun Qing’s room without ceremony, pours himself tea, and jokes about Yun Huang beating him. He is considerably less tactful than Yun Qing, openly mocking Yun Chi’s prospects and calling the Twelfth Elder an “old snake” 15 16.
His complaints often conceal affection. After saving Yun Qing, he scolds him for wasting an expensive puppet and interrupts the confrontation with a lecture, yet visibly relaxes upon finding him safe. Yun Qing’s imprisonment strips away that playful manner: Yun Yuan pleads urgently for him, paces in distress, and keeps searching for a way to make Yun Huang hear his explanation 35 38.
He is also pragmatic about danger. Although he would ordinarily support Yun Qing challenging an unsuitable Young Lord, he knows Yun Huang is beyond Yun Qing’s ability to defeat and hopes the two prodigies can coexist without internal strife 2.
Abilities & Skills
Immortal Venerable Power
Yun Yuan’s realm is revealed when he intervenes in the Myriad Beasts Ancient Domain ambush 35.
- With a light stomp and the word “Disperse,” he destroys the Blood-Killing Demon God phantom, twenty-four demonic dragons, and the accompanying poison, curses, and weapon attacks 35.
- Creates an invisible barrier to shield Yun Qing from what appears to be the Twelfth Elder’s impending self-detonation 36.
- Limit: The forbidden Blood-Soul Poison Thorn penetrates that barrier before he can intercept it. Yun Huang’s Radiant Sun Seal Mark, rather than Yun Yuan’s defense, stops the attack 36.
Sumeru Puppet Transformation
Yun Yuan refines protective Stand-In Puppets from strands of his own life-bound soul essence 36.
- Each can carry an Immortal Venerable’s full power and divine sense, allowing Yun Qing to summon his protection 36.
- Yun Qing activates one by throwing it to the ground; it transforms into Yun Yuan 35.
- The puppet defeats the Twelfth Elder’s plan to keep Yun Yuan occupied elsewhere while sealing the ambush site with the Heaven-Sealing Domain-Locking Banner 35 36.
- The materials are extremely costly. Yun Yuan intends the puppets for life-threatening emergencies, not convenience 35.
Cultivation Instruction
- Personally trains Yun Qing for more than a decade in the Primordial Chaos Ancient Cave 1.
- Teaches him to “leave no enemy alive,” a lesson Yun Qing recalls during his confrontation with Yun Chi 34.
- Expects Yun Qing to use his cultivation, physique, Double Pupils, and protective treasures before resorting to the puppet 35.
Alchemy and Clan Knowledge
- Practices pill refinement; being summoned through the puppet ruins a batch of first-rate pills he was making 35.
- Explains that losing a Main Lineage Succession Battle can demote a branch and cut its resources by seventy percent 16.
- Recalls the Twelfth Elder’s interest in ancient Foundation Seizure and Cauldron Exchange arts, helping Yun Qing identify the threat to his Dao Embryo 16.
- Provides Yun Qing with a list of the Twelfth Elder’s trusted followers 16.
