Background / History

Heavenly Pivot Sect

Ye Hui grew up without protection and was condemned as sinister or ill-omened because of his innate devouring ability. Lin Buqun, the Heavenly Pivot Sect Master, took him in and became his master. Although the sect benefited from his talent, Lin Buqun warned him to conceal the full extent of his power 345 347.

His rapid advancement made him the sect’s foremost inner disciple. Elders predicted that he would become a pillar of the sect within twenty years, but his position collapsed after Ye Tianchen’s rise. Ye Tianchen defeated him despite their difference in cultivation, while his natural ability was publicly branded a “Spirit-Devouring Evil Art.” Liu Qingwei, his former junior sister, joined in condemning him 341 343.

Ye Hui rejected Ye Tianchen’s offer to plead for him if he abolished his cultivation. After falling from a cliff, he endured pursuit, the complete destruction of his dantian, and the severing of his meridians. The sect circulated a warrant for him throughout the Sixteen Provinces 343.

A Little Shop

Stranded and badly injured in Blackwater Town, Ye Hui entered Yun Qing’s shop and attempted to steal a valuable stalk of Meridian-Congealing Grass using concealed devouring power. Yun Qing caught him and broke his finger. Nevertheless, Ye Hui was allowed to remain, recover in the woodshed, and work around the shop 341 343.

Yun Qing’s practical care unsettled him more than punishment: clean clothes, medicine, warm washing water, and meals challenged his conviction that kindness always concealed an ulterior motive. He gradually stopped hiding his devouring power from Yun Qing and began protecting the shop despite his ruined cultivation 345 348 350 351 356.

His ruthlessness remained intact. He admitted diverting beggars to the mine to save himself, later killed men in an alley, and considered silencing Niu Niu after she witnessed his power. Yun Qing established a firm boundary against harming West Street’s neighbors while refusing to punish Ye Hui for murderous thoughts he had not acted upon 348 353.

Nightmares and His True Identity

Ye Hui dreamed of a Blackwater Town without Yun Qing’s shop. In that nightmare, True Person Hua tortured him and used his flesh and blood to forge a treasure; Aunt Chen died protecting him, and he escaped the burning town with Niu Niu. Later dream fragments showed him hunted as a Devil Lord. These events appeared as a dream, not as the ordinary course of his life at A Little Shop 360 361.

An unseen fate thread subsequently seized control of his body and forced him to attack Yun Qing. Yun Qing severed it, then discovered extensive interference surrounding Ye Hui’s Divine Soul. After Yun Huang forced him into serpent form, Yun Qing identified him as a Chaos Heaven-Devouring Python rather than a human with a special constitution 370 372 375.

His inheritance was severely incomplete because he had been stranded in the Human World as a child, while the Heavenly Dao had suppressed his fate. Recovering fragments of that inheritance allowed him to begin learning the instincts and transformations of his species 375 388.

Revenge and Gu Princess’s Fate Script

Yun Qing promised to accompany Ye Hui back to the Heavenly Pivot Sect and help settle his grievances. At the sect gates, he demanded a fair rematch with Ye Tianchen and suppressed Elder Mu’s assistance through the Jade Pendant 404 415.

The confrontation is complicated by Gu Princess’s repeated fate reenactments. The author’s clarification states that Ye Hui killed Ye Tianchen in the first sequence; in the second, Yun Qing was placed inside “Ye Hui’s” role and retraced the confrontation. The displayed duel ends with a Snake Sword driven through Ye Tianchen’s heart, followed by Gu Princess extracting their intertwined fate 417 418.

Outside the reenactment, the real Ye Hui was trapped in a Void Cage with the unconscious Yun Qing. He repeatedly smashed his body against its barrier while shielding his protector, suffering broken scales, torn flesh, exposed bones, and a split Heavenly Eye. Yun Qing eventually broke the curse and treated him with a Nine-Turn Supreme Clarity Mystic Origin Pill 417 418 430.

Disciple and Sect Master

Recognizing both his loyalty and their shared chaos origin, Yun Qing formally accepted Ye Hui as his first disciple. Yun Tianluo presided over the ceremony of three bows and nine kowtows. Yun Qing bestowed the name Zhao Xuan and the Eight-Nine Profound Art, providing a cultivation method suited to his foundation 438.

Afterward, Ye Hui dealt with his former master and returned with blood on his clothes. The Human World’s fortune and the Heavenly Mandate remaining after Ye Tianchen’s death then gathered into him 439 441.

When the Perched Cloud Immortal Sect learned that Zhao Xuan now held that mandate, Yun Guihe offered him leadership. Its elders accepted him as sect master, supplied resources and records, and entrusted him with the sect’s Golden Seal and restriction tokens. His responsibilities included helping restore the passage between the Human and Immortal Worlds 446 451.

Ye Hui remained behind when Yun Qing returned to Heavenly Origin. He resolved to complete his Dao path and ascend to reunite with his master. His subsequent routine alternated between cultivation and passage research, including cooperation with Great Xia; gifts sent through Yun Qing’s Heavenly Origin Cauldron continued to brighten his days 452 555.

Appearance

• Human form: A pale, slender youth with dark eyes initially described as cold and sinister like a venomous snake’s. His early appearance included extensive scars, disheveled hair, a broken finger, and a pronounced limp 341 343 345.
• Clothing: While working at A Little Shop, he wore freshly washed grayish-white clothes with neatly cinched cuffs 362.
• Python form: Possesses ink-black and gold scales that appear hard and lustrous but feel thin, soft, and cool 374.

Personality

Ye Hui is reserved, proud, suspicious, and intensely persistent. He rarely explains himself or seeks sympathy, even when admitting cruel actions. His willingness to rebreak and reset his own leg reflects how readily he accepts pain in exchange for recovery and eventual revenge 345 346 348.

His morality is shaped by survival rather than orthodox labels. Having watched the Heavenly Pivot Sect praise resource seizure while condemning his innate gift, he rejects its distinction between “righteous” cultivation and his supposedly evil power. He can kill decisively, consider eliminating witnesses, and patiently remember those who harmed him 346 351 353.

Around Yun Qing, his guarded demeanor gives way to affection, embarrassment, and conspicuous eagerness for approval. He nuzzles his master’s hand, unconsciously wags his tail, and ultimately risks his life protecting him without expecting a reward. Their separation remains painful despite his new authority and resources 392 418 436 437 452.
