Background / History

Hongjun merged with the Dao after delivering three lectures at Zixiao Palace and distributing spiritual treasures at Treasure Distribution Rock. His fusion with the Heavenly Dao made him imperceptible to ordinary divine senses despite being visible to observers. 84

He is revealed to have annihilated the ancient Primordial World after becoming dissatisfied with it, then recreated the current world according to his memories. The current Heavenly Dao, Pangu, the Three Pure Ones, and many other beings were arranged or guided by him; only Hongjun, the three thousand Great Daos merged with him, and the minor Daos are described as truly enduring. 204

To preserve the Primordial World's stability, Hongjun allowed the Great Powers to be projected into other worlds, dispersing their strength. Although he could have permitted them to recall these projections and restore their power, he withheld this knowledge until using their restored strength as a test and as leverage against the Human Race. 226

Appearance

When Hongjun manifests, he appears as a profound, mysterious Daoist figure whose presence seems merged with heaven and earth. His body is often surrounded by converging Great Dao phenomena, while his eyes may resemble blazing suns. 84 205 287

Personality

Hongjun is possessive of his authority and intolerant of variables beyond his control. He considers the Great Dao his exclusive domain, reacts with anger when others refine or mobilize a Dao without his knowledge, and views independent powers within the Primordial World as threats to be removed or controlled. 230 232

He is calculating rather than consistently direct. Unable to attack the Human Race freely because of Chen Ang's deterrence, he strengthens and deploys the Primordial World's Great Powers as proxies. He also bargains with outside forces—including Shen Ni and the Three Thousand Demon Gods—to pressure or destroy the Human Race's Sacred Court. 226 260 267

His cruelty is particularly evident in his treatment of the being imprisoned within the foul spring. Hongjun recalls having imprisoned, tortured, and killed that being's loved ones before its eyes, and takes satisfaction in prolonging its suffering and humiliating it. 231

Conflict with the Mythical Grand Unity

Hongjun confronts the Old Daoist, a wounded Mythical Grand Unity who resembles him but dismisses him as an “illusion.” Hongjun joins Zhou Yuan in defeating and suppressing the Old Daoist, but sustains severe Dao injuries in the process. 288 292 295

Human Race Tribulation and World Restoration

Hongjun indirectly engineers a major attack on the Human Race through Shen Ni and the Three Thousand Demon Gods, while bound by his wager with Chen Ang.
