Ning Xinyao belongs to the Ancient Immortal Ning Lineage and has spent two sixty-year cycles—120 years—at Crane-Cry Peak. Her comparatively low cultivation during the Yongning mission is explained by her lineage’s supreme cultivation method, which requires repeated cultivation cycles 6 29.

Yongning Commandery Mission

Lu Feng sends Ning Xinyao with Li Yang to investigate demons in Yongning Commandery and establish a connection between him and her grand-grandaunt. During their journey, she questions him about Shen Lou’er’s death and hints at the mission’s hidden opportunities, but he denies responsibility and refuses to pursue those benefits 6 9.

At Stone Gate Village, she urges Li Yang to stop attacking while evil cultivators hold villagers hostage. When he refuses and breaks the formation, she rescues the villagers while he pursues their captors. After the wedding procession is ambushed, Ning Xinyao helps settle nearly two hundred mortals aboard her flying boat. She lends the boat to another guard for their evacuation and follows Li Yang with Xiao Feng, explaining that she wants the maid for her cave abode 15 16.

When Li Yang is gravely injured fighting the golden dragon, she treats him and shelters him beneath an inverted pill furnace.
