Background / History
Dragon-Han Tribulation and Defeat
During the Dragon-Han era, Luohu provoked conflict among the dragons, phoenixes, and qilins while strengthening himself behind the scenes. His ambition extended to attaining the Dao at the cost of destroying the Primordial World 169 174 196.
Hongjun later recalls confronting him alongside Yang Mei, the Yin-Yang Ancestor, Daoist Qiankun, and the Six Sages. Luohu was killed, but a fragment of his primordial spirit escaped. The Yin-Yang Ancestor perished, while Yang Mei and Qiankun suffered grave injuries 187.
Hongjun subsequently used underhanded means to claim the calamity’s merit for himself, believing that he had eliminated Yang Mei and Qiankun as well. His victory over Luohu became the foundation of his standing as Dao Ancestor 157 187.
Concealment in the Demonic Qi World
Luohu spent countless years ruling a separate world saturated with demonic qi. He remained hidden because he had not reached Dao Integration and could not yet contend with Hongjun 157 169.
His accumulated forces included the following cultivators:
| Force | Documented Strength |
|---|---|
| Eight Demon Gods | All Saint-level; the strongest was at the third stage, while three were at the first stage 174 191 |
| Other subordinates | More than a dozen Quasi-Sages and several dozen Great Luo cultivators 174 |
Luohu’s injuries and limited time for instruction contributed to the gap between his Demon Gods and Hongjun’s Saints 174.
Renewed Dao–Demon Conflict
Lu Feng used the God-Slaying Spear to expose Luohu’s survival and draw Hongjun away from the Interception Sect’s battlefield. When Lu Feng ordered the spear’s destruction, both old enemies misunderstood the event: Luohu blamed Hongjun for destroying his treasure, while Hongjun believed Luohu had destroyed it as a provocation 145 157 158.
Lu Feng then entered Luohu’s world while projecting Pangu’s aura. Luohu rejected the possibility that the visitor was Pangu himself, but accepted the false impression that he was another Chaos Lifeform. After Luohu tested him with accumulated demonic qi, Lu Feng detonated thirty formations and injured him 169 170.
With Hongjun’s arrival imminent, Luohu surrendered his world and its resources in exchange for an accelerated breakthrough. Lu Feng left him his subordinates and promised a return to the Primordial World, where he could challenge Hongjun again 170 171.
Lu Feng relocated Luohu’s main forces to Mount Sumeru and prepared the Demonic Qi World as a trap. A Luohu clone drew Hongjun away while the Four Saints were caught in the world’s destruction. Luohu then annihilated the remaining world will, absorbed its origin, and confronted Hongjun in Chaos 175 177 178 179.
Return to Mount Sumeru
During their battle, Lu Feng plundered Zixiao Palace and planted Luohu’s distinctive demonic aura to frame him. He also supplied Luohu with a reforged palace pillar, briefly helping him resist Hongjun. Despite this intervention, Luohu eventually fell into mortal danger 181 182 183.
Lu Feng’s prepared teleportation formation removed Luohu from the battle and delivered him to Mount Sumeru. There, Luohu occupied the Great Thunderclap Temple, proclaimed his return, and established the Demon Gate in place of the Western Teachings 184 185.
Recognizing that isolation had contributed to his earlier defeat, he sought cooperation with the Interception Sect. He personally visited Golden Ao Island and identified Lu Feng as the sect’s crucial figure 187 188.
Investiture of the Gods and Heavenly Dao Debt
Luohu accepted Lu Feng’s proposal to sacrifice heavenly merit and some of his Demon Gods’ power to complete the Heavenly Dao’s missing Devil Dao principles. The intended reward was a karmic debt owed by the Heavenly Dao itself 188 189.
At the investiture ceremony, Lu Feng redirected the merit taken by Hongjun into Luohu’s hands. Luohu erected a sacrificial altar, sacrificed four Saint-level Demon Gods, and offered his own Dao-principle power. The Heavenly Dao protected the altar from Hongjun and accepted the offering 194 195.
Invited into the Heavenly Dao Space, Luohu openly credited Lu Feng with teaching him the scheme, exposing Lu Feng as its mastermind. The Heavenly Dao acknowledged its debt, then accepted Lu Feng’s proposed Journey to the West calamity: Hongjun’s faction would spread the Demon Gate’s teachings to repay it 195 196 198.
Lu Feng’s Breakthrough
When Lu Feng began entering the Primordial Unity Heavenly Dao Realm, Luohu went to Golden Ao Island and offered to protect him against Hongjun’s interference. The breakthrough nevertheless destabilized Luohu’s own Dao, reducing his cultivation from the late to the early phase of the second stage 200 202.
Appearance
Luohu takes the form of a handsome young man. When he restrains his aura during his visit to Golden Ao Island, his appearance retains traces of wickedness without appearing effeminate 169 188.
- Demonic qi: Billows around his body with an unmistakable aura of destruction and madness 169.
- Distinctive presence: His demonic aura is recognizable enough for Lu Feng to use it as false evidence at Zixiao Palace 147 182.
- Controlled presentation: Can suppress his overwhelming presence when approaching potential allies 188.
Personality
Luohu is associated with madness and destruction rather than principled rebellion. Hongjun explicitly distinguishes his destructive nature from Zhao Gongming’s proud, courageous demonic qi 145.
His recklessness is strongest in combat: he willingly risks his life to injure Hongjun. Outside battle, however, he is capable of caution, recognizing when he cannot win and remaining hidden rather than seeking a pointless death 169 183.
Revenge against Hongjun drives his major decisions. He accepts the loss of his accumulated resources because the promised breakthrough would let him return and fight again. After recognizing the danger of standing alone, he becomes willing to pursue allies and relinquish some interests for cooperation 171 187.
He is wary of unclear bargains and karmic obligations, insisting on knowing the price of Lu Feng’s help. His later gratitude toward Lu Feng is genuine, though revealing their cooperation also exposes Lu Feng to Hongjun’s murderous attention 170 195 196.
Abilities & Skills
Devil Dao and Destruction Principles
Luohu commands Devil Dao and Destruction principles, which become Heavenly Dao principles through his breakthrough 178 179.
- Projects demonic qi across hundreds of thousands of miles of the Void 178 179.
- Channels surrounding demonic qi into concentrated spear attacks 180.
- Contests Hongjun’s immortal Dao principles directly 179.
Dao Annihilation
Luohu advances by destroying a world’s Heavenly Dao will and devouring its origin rather than integrating himself with the Heavenly Dao 171 178.
- Condenses a black saber from his source power to pursue and destroy the world will 178.
- Retains access to his full strength away from the Primordial World’s Heavenly Dao, unlike Hongjun 180.
- Limitation: His primordial spirit is not anchored to the Heavenly Dao; death would therefore be final 184.
Combat Expertise
His fighting style combines exceptional combat talent with life-risking aggression 183.
- Uses dangerous exchanges to inflict injuries and escape otherwise unfavorable situations 183.
- Initially matches Hongjun’s unleashed power despite having only recently broken through 179.
- Limitation: Hongjun’s experience, Dao-principle mastery, and treasures eventually give him the advantage 179 183.
Clones and Concealment
Luohu uses clones for diversion and a secret art to hide his own aura 175 177.
- A powerful clone lures Hongjun to a distant planet 177.
- Additional clones delay Hongjun while the sacrificial altar is prepared 194.
- Limitation: Hongjun destroys these clones once he engages them 177 194.
Sacrificial Altar
Using Lu Feng’s method, Luohu establishes a connection to the Heavenly Dao through a combined offering 194 195.
- Candles: Formed from four sacrificed Saint-level Demon Gods’ demonic origin.
- Wicks: Made from the Investiture of the Gods’ Merit Power.
- Flames: Ignited through Luohu’s Devil Dao principles.
- Result: Completes missing Devil Dao principles and earns a Heavenly Dao karmic debt 195 196.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- God-Slaying Spear — His former supreme Devil Dao treasure, powerful enough to threaten Saints. It disappeared after his ancient defeat; Lu Feng later forged and repaired it before arranging its destruction 93 158.
- Demon Spear — A pitch-black replacement developed during his years in hiding. Its power approaches, but does not equal, the God-Slaying Spear 180 183.
- Reforged Zixiao Palace pillar — Supplied by Lu Feng and refined using the God-Slaying Spear’s forging method. Temporarily allows Luohu to push Hongjun back 183.
Relationships
- Hongjun — Lifelong nemesis. Their conflict begins in the Dragon-Han era and reflects the opposition between Hongjun’s immortal Dao and Luohu’s destructive Devil Dao 157 179.
- Lu Feng — Transactional partner who becomes a valued ally. Luohu trusts his altar scheme, publicly promises him protection, and later offers to guard his breakthrough; Lu Feng describes their arrangement as mutual exploitation 189 195 196 200.
- Eight Demon Gods — His principal Saint-level subordinates. Four sacrifice themselves for the Heavenly Dao offering 174 191 194.
- Tongtian — Potential ally sought after Luohu’s return. Tongtian initially distrusts his motives and worries that his visit will implicate the Interception Sect 187 188 189.
- Nuwa — Initially hostile and wary, particularly when Luohu asks to meet Lu Feng 188.
- Jieyin and Zhunti — Displaced leaders of the Western Teachings, whose remaining forces and headquarters are overtaken by the Demon Gate 182 184 187.
- Heavenly Dao — Receives his Devil Dao offering, protects the sacrificial altar, and acknowledges a karmic debt to him 195 196.
