| Quasi-Sage | 38 | Finds a scroll in the East Sea after searching across almost half the Primordial World. Its laws and Daoist arts merge into the Sage Dao cultivation technique, allowing him to overcome his stagnation and advance an entire major realm. His comprehension reaches 97%, a new record recorded by Lu Feng’s system. |

| Temporary Saint Realm, first and second stages | 143 144 145 | As the core of Lu Feng’s mobile formation, receives the combined power of its participating disciples. Hongjun identifies this as a temporary enhancement rather than an independent breakthrough. |
| Temporary Saint Realm, third stage | 145 146 148 149 | His formation-enhanced cultivation reaches the third stage. With Lu Feng’s Azure Edge Sword, fights Zhunti on equal terms, severs his arm, and ultimately beheads him. |

Background / History
Duobao was still a small child on Golden Ao Island when Lu Feng considered leaving the Interception Sect. Tongtian’s kindness and Duobao’s presence persuaded Lu Feng to stay, beginning a hundred-thousand-year period in which he watched over the sect and its growing disciples 2.
As a first-generation disciple, Duobao received extensive personal instruction from Lu Feng as well as guidance from Tongtian. He treated Lu Feng with exceptional respect and regarded him, like the other loyal disciples, as effectively a second master 1 2.
When Lu Feng announced the sect’s dissolution to protect its members from the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, Duobao initially refused to leave. He asked how the sect could be saved and accepted the decision only after Lu Feng explained that seeking opportunities and growing stronger might allow them to reestablish it. Before departing, Duobao and the remaining disciples knelt and kowtowed toward Lu Feng 1 2.
During the later fighting outside Golden Ao Island, Duobao becomes the core of a formation prepared by Lu Feng that temporarily concentrates his fellow disciples’ strength into him. This allows him to confront and slay Zhunti despite his own underlying Quasi-Sage cultivation 143 144 145 148 149.
After the Interception Sect’s reunion and the conclusion of the Investiture of the Gods, Lu Feng begins preparing its disciples for the Journey to the West calamity. Duobao is the first disciple shown successfully testing Lu Feng’s resource-assisted method for an actual Saint Realm breakthrough 190 198.
Appearance
- Wears blue-green robes when gathering the scattered Jie Sect disciples on a mountain peak 17.
Personality
Duobao is fiercely loyal to his sect but does not equate loyalty with unquestioning obedience. He challenges its dissolution because he wants to preserve it, and later allows disciples to decide for themselves whether to risk a rescue mission. His concern extends to newcomers: he checks whether Nezha came willingly and would have sent him back if he had been forced 1 2 18 35.
His seniority is a source of pride. Previously among the sect’s strongest disciples, he becomes embarrassed and envious when Qiongxiao, Jinguang Xian, and Zhao Gongming surpass him. Their progress also deepens his admiration for Lu Feng and turns his own search for an opportunity into an urgent priority 17 18 28.
Against enemies, Duobao is calculating and unwilling to yield to intimidation. He deliberately lets trapped Chan Sect disciples grow desperate before negotiating, yet honors the release agreement once payment and written acknowledgment of the remaining debt are secured. Among fellow disciples, he favors informal, open interaction over rigid ceremony 25 26 28 35.
His confidence in Lu Feng’s preparations eventually extends to deliberately provoking Saints. When the mobile formation grants him Saint-level power, he resolves to kill Zhunti rather than merely injure or repel him. His fellow disciples sense this intention through the formation and enthusiastically support it 143 144 145.
Although respectful toward Tongtian, Duobao privately questions his master’s attempts to compete with Lu Feng as a teacher. He and Zhao Gongming recognize the misunderstanding surrounding Di Xin’s intended apprenticeship, but decide that warning Tongtian would accomplish little 172 173.
Abilities & Skills
Sage Dao
A cultivation technique formed when the countless laws and Daoist arts within Lu Feng’s opportunity scroll merge and engrave themselves in Duobao’s mind 38.
- Enables his breakthrough to Quasi-Sage 38.
- Requires enlightenment within the opportunity’s secret-realm-like experience; Duobao realizes that failure to gain enlightenment can mean death 38.
- His 97% comprehension triggers cultivation and Immortal Dao law rewards for Lu Feng’s system 38.
- During his formation-enhanced confrontation with Zhunti, Sage Dao Principles intertwine with his palm strikes. One strike is described as reversing heaven and earth and making time flow backward, while the River of Time trembles in response to his power 144.
Artifact Refining
Before Lu Feng receives his Great Dao-level artifact-refining skill, Duobao is identified as the only member of the Interception Sect able to refine artifacts 38.
- Possesses an established artifact-refining skill, though no named item he personally forges is shown in the supplied chapters 38.
Combat and Spiritual Perception
- Attacks Daoist Randeng with a punch aimed at his eye while Snake Monster lashes at him with his tail 20.
- Travels as a streak of light when leading the disciples into battle 18.
- Detects changes in fellow disciples’ auras and recognizes when they have surpassed his strength 17 18.
- Notices that Golden Hoop Immortal, Tiger Monster, and Snake Monster bear no karmic power despite dismantling a Saint’s residence 36.
- Breaks Zhunti’s Saint-level spatial seal while receiving power from Lu Feng’s formation, then shatters another spatial seal using the Azure Edge Sword 144 146.
- Uses the Azure Edge Sword to cut through the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree’s radiance, sever Zhunti’s left arm, and ultimately take his head 146 148 149.
- Manifests an enormous white-robed figure resembling a peerless Immortal Emperor during his final confrontation with Zhunti. Initially facing away from the world, the figure turns and strikes as Duobao swings his sword 148.
Leadership and Negotiation
- Regroups scattered disciples after suspecting a Chan Sect plot and organizes a voluntary rescue expedition 17 18.
- Uses the Three Xiao Sisters’ control of the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation as leverage; the formation itself belongs to the sisters 24 25.
- Rejects Randeng’s attempt to invoke Heavenly Venerable Yuanshi’s authority, arguing that the Interception Sect is entitled to defend its disciples and their opportunities 26.
- Secures written IOUs so Tongtian can pursue the debt if the Chan Sect later refuses to pay 28.
- Is entrusted with directing the remaining disciples when Tongtian, Nuwa, Lu Feng, and Jiang Shang leave for the Heavenly Court to conclude the Investiture of the Gods 190.
- Summons fellow disciples at great perfection Quasi-Sage so they can attempt the same resource-assisted Saint breakthrough that he successfully completes 198.
Mobile Power-Concentrating Formation
Duobao serves as the core of a formation designed by Lu Feng to let the disciples contend with Saints. Rather than using fixed materials as anchors, it uses people and can move freely, gathering the participants’ power into one individual 143 144.
- Temporarily raises Duobao from great perfection Quasi-Sage to Saint-level cultivation, eventually reaching the Saint Realm’s third stage 144 145.
- Allows other participating disciples to sense his intention to slay Zhunti 145.
- Is sufficiently intricate that Hongjun can identify its temporary enhancement and at least eight Sage Dao Principles, but cannot fully understand its workings; half of those principles are beyond his ability to see through 145.
- Depends on the participating disciples, a connection Zhunti notices before attempting to attack them directly. Duobao protects them and forces Zhunti to resume fighting him instead 146.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Opportunity scroll — Found in the East Sea; transmits the laws and Daoist arts that become the Sage Dao technique 38.
- Magical treasures — Already possesses numerous treasures when distributing the Chan Sect spoils; none of his personal treasures are named 28.
- Chan Sect IOUs — Accepts written acknowledgment of the two outstanding Innate Spiritual Treasures before releasing the captives 27 28.
- Azure Edge Sword — Lu Feng’s three-foot, silvery-white longsword, wielded by Duobao against Zhunti. An Innate Supreme Treasure that sacrifices other attributes for extreme sharpness; it breaks spatial seals, cuts through Zhunti’s attacks, and is used to sever his arm and head 146 148 149.
- Primordial violet qi, Flat Peach, and Yellow Middle Plum — Breakthrough resources supplied by Lu Feng. Duobao absorbs the two fruits and then the primordial violet qi to achieve an actual Saint Realm breakthrough. The fruits’ effectiveness has been enhanced by Lu Feng’s cultivation of their spiritual roots 198.
Relationships
- Tongtian — Master. Duobao expects him to help collect the Chan Sect’s debt if necessary. Tongtian later entrusts the remaining disciples to his leadership while attending the conclusion of the Investiture of the Gods. Duobao remains obedient but privately doubts Tongtian can rival Lu Feng’s teaching results 1 28 163 172 173 190.
- Lu Feng — Senior brother, deputy sect leader, and longtime instructor. Duobao credits both the disciples’ newfound strength and their family-like unity to his guidance. Lu Feng supplies the formation and sword that enable him to slay Zhunti, then provides the resources for his independent Saint breakthrough 2 23 26 143 146 198.
- Zhao Gongming — Junior brother and ally. His rapid advancement unsettles Duobao, but the two cooperate in confronting and negotiating with the Chan Sect. They later share private commentary on Tongtian’s mistaken attempt to recruit Di Xin and are the first to greet Lu Feng upon his return from Chaos 18 24 25 173 185.
- Three Xiao Sisters — Junior sisters and allies. Qiongxiao’s breakthrough first exposes how far Duobao has fallen behind; the sisters later support his ransom scheme with their formation. After his own independent Saint breakthrough, Duobao summons Yunxiao and other qualified disciples for Lu Feng’s next round of breakthroughs 17 25 26 198.
- Jinguang Xian — Junior fellow disciple whose teasing questions about Duobao’s stagnant strength wound his pride 17 18.
- Golden Hoop Immortal, Tiger Monster, and Snake Monster — Fellow disciples whose increasingly audacious exploits exasperate him. He sends them to Lu Feng after learning they dismantled the Jade Void Palace. During the battle with Zhunti, Duobao prevents the Saint from slaughtering Tiger Monster and the other formation participants 35 36 146.
- Nezha — Welcomed newcomer and martial nephew. Duobao initially accepts being called “Second Senior Brother,” then settles on “martial uncle” to preserve Nezha’s existing generational standing 35 36.
- Daoist Randeng — Opponent addressed as “Martial Uncle.” Duobao attacks him in battle and later forces him to negotiate for his group’s release 20 25 26.
- Zhunti — Saint-level opponent. Duobao deliberately provokes him, fights him with formation-enhanced power and Lu Feng’s sword, and ultimately beheads him. This defeats Zhunti’s manifested body but does not mean a Saint has permanently ceased to exist 143 146 148 149 152.
- Nuwa — Ally in the defense of Golden Ao Island. She initially prepares to rescue him from Zhunti before witnessing the formation’s effectiveness; Duobao subsequently fights beside her to prevent the other Saints from interfering with Jiang Shang 143 144 152.
- Jieyin — Enemy Saint. Blocks Nuwa’s attempt to rescue Duobao during Zhunti’s first attack and later holds Duobao at bay while Tongtian confronts Yuanshi 144 153.
- Jiang Shang — Ally carrying out the Investiture of the Gods. Duobao sends him a voice transmission before joining Nuwa against the opposing Saints, helping defend the process of placing Zhunti’s true spirit on the list 152.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Regrouping the Disciples
- After leaving Golden Ao Island, Duobao finds a blessed grotto-heaven and focuses on cultivation instead of searching for Lu Feng’s opportunities. This delays his progress while several junior disciples advance 17 18.
- Suspecting that the Chan Sect expedition conceals a plot, he gathers fellow disciples and leads them to rescue members believed to be in enemy hands 17 18.
- Joins the battle against the Chan Sect, then urges the victors to recognize Lu Feng’s opportunities as the true source of their success 20 21 22 23.
Ransom at the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation
- Inspired by Tiger Monster’s acquisition of the Heaven-Overturning Seal, Duobao proposes demanding treasures in exchange for the trapped enemies’ lives 25.
- Delays answering negotiation requests while the Three Xiao Sisters increase the formation’s pressure, forcing Randeng to abandon his threatening attitude 25 26.
| Demanded payment | Quantity | Settlement |
|---|---|---|
| Innate Spiritual Treasures | 3 | One surrendered; two remain owed under written IOUs 26 27 28 |
| Acquired Supreme Treasures | 5 | Surrendered 26 |
| Acquired Spiritual Treasures | 15 | Surrendered 26 |
| Spiritual roots | 30 | Surrendered 26 |
- Accepts the IOUs and releases the captives. He distributes the seized treasures among fellow disciples; Snake Monster receives the sole Innate Spiritual Treasure collected 28.
Nezha and the Jade Void Palace
- Meets the returning treasure-vault raiders in the Eastern Sea and confirms Nezha’s willingness to join their fellowship 35.
- Is alarmed to learn that the raiders also dismantled the Jade Void Palace. Although he attributes their lack of karmic consequences to Lu Feng’s opportunities, he refuses to shoulder responsibility and kicks them toward Golden Ao Island to report to Lu Feng 36.
Further Opportunities
- Finds his own opportunity scroll in the East Sea after searching across almost half the Primordial World. Comprehends the Sage Dao and breaks through to Quasi-Sage 38.
- Enters a newly appeared Secret Realm gate alongside other disciples entering gates elsewhere, believing it to be another opportunity prepared by Lu Feng 49.
Slaying Zhunti
After the Interception Sect defeats the Chan Sect and Western Teachings, Lu Feng sends the weaker disciples back to Golden Ao Island. Duobao remains outside with the leading disciples to face the Four Saints. Relying on Lu Feng’s mobile formation, he deliberately insults Jieyin and Zhunti to provoke an attack 143.
Zhunti freezes the space around Duobao and strikes with the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree, while Jieyin prevents Nuwa from intervening. Duobao breaks the seal and receives the formation’s concentrated power, rising from great perfection Quasi-Sage into temporary Saint-level cultivation. His palm strikes repel Zhunti as his power continues climbing 144 145.
When Zhunti attempts to destroy the supporting disciples, Duobao draws Lu Feng’s Azure Edge Sword and intercepts him. Their first sword-and-staff clash is evenly matched. Duobao then cuts through Zhunti’s radiance, severs his left arm, and presses the attack 146.
In the final exchange, a white-robed Immortal Emperor-like figure manifests behind Duobao and turns to strike as he swings his sword. Duobao takes Zhunti’s head, and an inexplicable sorrow spreads across the Primordial World. Zhen Yuanzi recognizes the fallen Saint’s aura, Haotian marvels at Duobao’s feat, and Houtu suspects that the decisive strike was prepared through hidden orchestration. Houtu also recognizes that Saints cannot truly perish in the ordinary sense, despite suffering such devastating defeats 148 149.
Defending the Investiture of the Gods
- Joins Nuwa in blocking Taishang, Jieyin, and Yuanshi while Jiang Shang continues the process of placing Zhunti’s captured true spirit on the Investiture of the Gods List 152.
- Is held at bay by Jieyin after Tongtian emerges from seclusion and confronts Yuanshi 153.
- Does not pursue the departing Saints alongside Nuwa, recognizing that pursuit would accomplish nothing 158.
- Is later placed in charge of the remaining disciples when Tongtian’s group leaves for the Heavenly Court to conclude the Investiture of the Gods 190.
Life on Golden Ao Island
- Fetches a fruit platter at Tongtian’s request while his master watches Lu Feng and Houtu from afar. When Duobao asks whether Tongtian is spying on Lu Feng, Tongtian scolds and dismisses him 163.
- Recognizes Tongtian’s desire to prove his teaching ability by taking Di Xin as a disciple. After learning that Di Xin actually seeks Lu Feng as his master, Duobao and Zhao Gongming quietly watch the misunderstanding unfold rather than attempt an ineffective warning 172 173.
- Joins Zhao Gongming in immediately greeting Lu Feng upon his return from Chaos, displaying an eagerness that irritates Tongtian 185.
Independent Sainthood and the Journey to the West Calamity
When Lu Feng announces a new round of special training, Duobao asks what trials await the sect and learns of the Journey to the West calamity. Lu Feng subsequently summons him privately and supplies primordial violet qi, a Flat Peach, and a Yellow Middle Plum 198.
Duobao cultivates in Lu Feng’s cave abode, rapidly absorbs the fruits and violet qi, and achieves an actual Saint Realm breakthrough. Unlike his earlier battle enhancement, this advancement does not depend on the mobile formation. His success verifies Lu Feng’s method, after which he is instructed to summon Yunxiao and the other disciples at great perfection Quasi-Sage so they can attempt their own breakthroughs. Tongtian later recognizes Duobao’s attainment and discovers that numerous other disciples are also emanating Saint Realm auras 198 199.
