Background / History
Di Xin is a modern-era transmigrator who awakens in Great Shang’s Jade Chamber after taking a nap in his rented room. The original king’s memories enter his mind, revealing that he has become King Zhou shortly before Daji’s arrival at court 1.
His knowledge of Investiture of the Gods gives him advance warning of Daji’s mission, Great Shang’s destruction, and the competing sects’ use of the mortal realm as a battlefield. He regards the king’s reputation as a tyrant as a pretext for making him a pawn in the Sages’ struggle 1 6.
The Human Emperor System offers him a choice: summon Daji and activate it, or send her away and lose it. He chooses to meet her, gaining a means to strengthen himself and challenge the expected course of the calamity 1.
Appearance
Di Xin is somewhat handsome, though his ordinary looks are unexceptional by fox-spirit standards. His physique is robust, with abundant vitality and masculine vigor; the Anti-Fox Charm Art makes him appear irresistibly attractive to Daji 2.
- Hair: Black, worn draped over his shoulders during his confrontation over human sacrifice 8.
- Build: Described as robust as a bear 2.
- Royal clothing: Wears a dragon robe when preparing to confront the palace uprising 35.
Personality
Di Xin is sarcastic, theatrical, and deliberately provocative. Because insults generate system currency, he turns irritation into a resource: he keeps resentful opponents nearby, prolongs their frustration, and describes useful targets as sheep to be fleeced. His system notifications also make him attentive to hidden dissatisfaction and coordinated opposition 5 7 18 32.
His defiance of divine authority is tied to a concrete concern for human lives. He refuses human sacrifice, grants the intended victims farmland, and distributes his agricultural invention even to hostile vassal states. He argues that the way of the Sages should serve ordinary people’s daily needs rather than stand apart from them 7 9 18 19 20.
He is nevertheless ruthless toward those he considers enemies. He orders the deaths of Weizi and Jizi, destroys the souls of the coup’s military leaders, and manipulates Bi Gan and Huang Feihu’s public reputations to isolate them from their former allies. He accepts being called a tyrant rather than surrendering control of Great Shang 2 9 37 43.
His relationships mix calculation with growing attachment. He initially avoids Queen Jiang because occupying her husband’s body makes intimacy feel strange, but later embraces their marriage. His concern for the injured Daji is sincere enough to strengthen her trust and affection 14 23 41 49.
Abilities & Skills
Human Emperor System
The system collects negative emotions generated by people Di Xin encounters after he provokes them. These points can improve cultivation or purchase system tools, while missions provide additional rewards 1.
- Persistent collection: The effects of insults can stack without a time limit 1.
- Cultivation expenditure: His Qi Refining into Spirit breakthrough costs 50,000 points; the next level requires 100,000 33 37.
- Lottery and exchanges: Offers random rewards, cultivation arts, Dao-Merging Grass, and Spiritual Treasures 5 8 12.
- Achievement Shop: Unlocked after Zheng Lun reaches full loyalty; lists powerful cultivation manuals and treasures 29.
- Relationship tracking: Reports loyalty and affection, enabling missions involving subjects and consorts 14 28 29.
- Political warning: Nearly simultaneous negative-emotion reports help him identify the ministers’ conspiracy 32.
- Associated collection: During Daji’s conflict with Jiang Ziya, her affection and loyalty score of 60 allows Di Xin to receive 60 percent of the relevant negative-emotion points 39.
Anti-Fox Charm Art
A system countermeasure reverses Daji’s attempt to control him with the Fox Charm Art 2.
- Costs 2,000 negative emotion points to activate 2.
- Prevents the immediate mental attack from succeeding and instead makes Daji infatuated with him 2.
Thanks for Playing
An active cultivation art that selects an opponent and causes the purpose of one action to fail. It requires no training and is mastered automatically 5.
- Its potency increases with Di Xin’s own abilities 5.
- Its acquisition does not convince him that approaching Daji is risk-free; he initially chooses to make her come to him instead 6.
- The prize wheel later also uses “Thanks for Playing” for unsuccessful draws, explicitly distinguishing those results from the secret technique 12.
Suiren Tranquil Heart Method
This method uses a repetitive refrain to disrupt Daji’s seductive influence. Its manifestation in his mind is a page bearing a golden flame 7 11.
- Dispels charm when Daji attempts to seduce him 11.
- Absorbs the seductive energy she sends into his body; Di Xin perceives the page’s flame growing stronger afterward 11.
Basic Daoist Arts
His Qi Refining into Spirit breakthrough supplies practical spellcasting knowledge alongside his new realm 33.
| Art | Demonstrated use or limitation |
|---|---|
| Thunder Technique | Creates purple lightning spheres. Destroys an ornamental rock formation during testing and kills Yang Ren during the uprising 33 36. |
| Five Elements Technique | Condenses earth-element hands that seize Fang Bi and Fang Xiang 37. |
| Wind Technique | Produces a wind blade, but Jiang Ziya’s cultivated sword qi tears through it 39. |
| Escape Technique | Unlocked at the breakthrough; no specific application is documented in the provided passages 33. |
| Talisman Art | Unlocked at the breakthrough; no specific application is documented in the provided passages 33. |
Minor Pickpocketing Art
A minor Dao of the Eight Hundred Side Doors, developed through law fragments contained in Dao-Merging Grass 12.
- Initially allows him to steal mortals’ belongings 12.
- Later reaches a tier permitting theft from Essence Refining into Qi cultivators 47.
- Advancement is incremental; repeated lottery rewards often supply this art instead of the abilities he wants 24 46 47.
Thirty-Nine Minor Mystic Art
Allows Di Xin to transform into beings or objects he knows and has seen, reproducing their abilities at a strength equivalent to his own 47.
- Duration: Each transformation lasts fifteen minutes 47.
- Cooldown: Three consecutive uses trigger a one-day cooldown 47.
- Demonstrated imitation: Transforms into Daji and successfully charms the palace maid Bi’er 47.
- Reference restrictions: Thanos is rejected as belonging to another universe. Hongjun is rejected because the system states that he was born a Sage and has no usable reference data 47.
- The acquisition notification calls the ability “Seventy-Two Transformations,” although Di Xin describes his current version as amounting to twenty-seven transformations 47.
Great True Phoenix Art
At its documented completion of 1/3,000, this art grants Di Xin a true phoenix bloodline and begins purifying and strengthening his body 49.
- Current effect: A faint fiery aura continuously refines his flesh and bones 49.
- Pinnacle potential: Transformation into an ancient True Phoenix, mastery over all paths of fire beneath heaven, and suppression of the Ten Thousand Feather Clans 49.
- Full phoenix transformation and the art’s ultimate fire powers are not yet unlocked 49.
Modern Knowledge and Political Strategy
Di Xin combines later-era practical knowledge with foreknowledge of the calamity to strengthen Great Shang 13 18 28.
- Agricultural design: Directs artisans to construct the Curved-Blade Plow, allowing one person and one ox to plow dozens of mu per day 13 19.
- Food preparation: Introduces an iron wok, seasonings, and recipes, including braised pork 22 23.
- Crop planning: Sends Yun Zhongzi to seek potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, and chili peppers overseas 22 23 28.
- Recruitment: Uses recognition, promotion, and promises of lasting status to secure Zheng Lun’s service and enlist his contacts 4 28 29.
- Public reputation: Names the plow after himself so hostile states must either spread his good name by using it or fall behind agriculturally 18.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Pine Wooden Sword, Juque — Yun Zhongzi’s thundercloud-pine sword contains lightning arts, specializes in killing demons and evil beings, and can slay anything below a True Immortal. Di Xin uses its threat to subdue Daji 21 24 26.
- Knockoff Heaven-Flipping Seal — Obtained from Yun Zhongzi through calculated public praise. Weaker than the original because it is not made from the broken Buzhou Mountain; it falters during the pursuit of Jiang Ziya 22 40.
- Knockoff Purple Ribbon Immortal Robe — Another gift from Yun Zhongzi; can withstand ten Origin Immortal-level attacks 22.
- Merit golden-body boxer shorts — A partial merit golden body shaped within his flesh, protecting the front of his lower body 17.
- Five-Colored Divine Ox — Borrowed from Huang Feihu for the plow demonstration, then assigned to serve as Di Xin’s daytime mount while visiting Huang Feihu morning and evening 15 18.
- Shoude Plow — His renamed Curved-Blade Plow receives Heavenly Dao merit, leaving golden light along its blade 16 18.
- Dao-Merging Grass — Consumable that grants fragments of Dao laws; develops his Minor Pickpocketing Art and eventually unlocks the Great True Phoenix Art 12 47 49.
- Yu Linglong’s jade-pipa form — Temporarily borrowed rather than owned. Di Xin plays this acquired Merit Spiritual Treasure to daze Jiang Ziya during their battle 40.
Relationships
- Daji — Initially Nuwa’s agent and his would-be seducer. Di Xin counters her charm, secures an eternal oath of loyalty, and appoints her his representative for recruiting Demon Tribe experts. Her affection and loyalty reach 80 after he treats her sisters as family 2 26 27 41 45.
- Queen Jiang / Jiang Chan — His inherited wife and queen. Initial discomfort gives way to shared meals, intimacy, and a loyalty-and-affection score of 100 14 23 49.
- Yin Hong and Yin Jiao — His sons. He cooks with them, reassures them about their futures, and chooses to keep them beside him rather than send them away to cultivate with Yun Zhongzi 23.
- Zheng Lun — Trusted guard general and an early recruit. Di Xin recognizes his abilities, promotes him, and promises to preserve his seniority over future recruits. Zheng Lun reaches full loyalty despite Su Hu’s interference 4 5 28 29.
- Shang Rong — A minister whose political judgment Di Xin values. Promoted to Chancellor of the Right, taking precedence over Bi Gan 4 18.
- Bi Gan — Royal adviser and frequent opponent. Di Xin exploits his resentment, makes him Chancellor of the Left beneath Shang Rong, and later isolates him from the rebels by falsely crediting him with betraying their coup 2 18 43.
- Huang Feihu — King of Wucheng and another political opponent. Di Xin appropriates the services of his ox and repeatedly provokes him for points; later subjects him to the same public manipulation as Bi Gan 15 18 43.
- Su Hu — Daji’s nominal father and former Marquis of Jizhou. Elevated to Duke and Royal Father-in-Law but kept in Chaoge, preventing his return to Jizhou and preserving him as a source of negative emotion points 4 5.
- Yun Zhongzi — Chan Sect immortal whom Di Xin engages through useful inventions, food, and merit. Supplies protective treasures and undertakes the overseas crop search 19 22 23.
- Yu Linglong and Hu Ximei — Daji’s sisters, whom he calls his sisters-in-law. They assist against Jiang Ziya, and he explains why following Nuwa’s original mission threatens their survival 40 41 45.
- Jiang Ziya — Enemy protected by the Heavenly Dao. Di Xin fails to kill him but helps cost him an arm; afterward, he anticipates retaliation and seeks stronger followers 40 41 44.
- Ji Chang — Rival ruler of Xiqi. Di Xin punishes him over Su Hu’s presentation of Daji and uses the Shoude Plow’s name to create a political dilemma for him 4 18 49.
- Wen Zhong — Loyal Grand Tutor whose strength and ties to the Interception Sect make him important to Great Shang. Di Xin monitors his displeasure and is wary of provoking him too far 5 7.
- Nuwa — The power behind Daji’s mission to ruin Great Shang. Di Xin persuades Daji that Nuwa will leave her to bear the calamity’s karmic debts 1 26.
- Hongjun — His projection forces Di Xin to kneel during the descent of merit. Di Xin privately vows to reverse that humiliation 16.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Securing the Throne’s First Allies
Di Xin’s first intervention reverses Daji’s charm and disrupts the expected reception of Su Hu. Rather than simply releasing Su Hu to Jizhou, he promotes and confines him in Chaoge, shifts blame toward Ji Chang, and recruits Zheng Lun away from Su Hu’s service 2 4 5.
Ending Human Sacrifice
At a ceremony meant to pray for Wen Zhong’s victory, Di Xin discovers that the offerings are people. He refuses their slaughter despite warnings of divine punishment. After Weizi and Jizi continue condemning him, he has Zheng Lun kill them, bans human sacrifice, and orders land allocated to the displaced victims 7 8 9.
He then appeals to the Three Sovereigns for support against the Three Teachings. His threat to replace other temples with Fire Cloud Palaces earns their anger, and Fuxi’s animated statue throws him out. Di Xin interprets the absence of further negative-emotion reports as a possible sign of concealed agreement, not confirmed support 9.
Agricultural Reform and Court Restructuring
Working directly with artisans, Di Xin develops the Curved-Blade Plow and demonstrates it using Huang Feihu’s divine ox. The invention earns Heavenly Dao recognition and merit, strengthening his cultivation 13 15 16 17.
He authorizes distribution of its plans to all vassal states, adopts the name Shoude Plow, and elevates Shang Rong above Bi Gan. Yun Zhongzi’s arrival then allows him to turn an intended demon-slaying visit into an exchange involving useful tools, treasures, and an overseas search for famine-resistant crops 18 19 22 23.
Turning Daji Against Her Mission
With Yun Zhongzi’s sword as leverage, Di Xin exposes his knowledge of Daji’s assignment and warns that Great Shang’s fall will bring her death rather than safe spiritual fruition. She swears never to betray him, and he redirects her efforts toward gathering Demon Tribe experts 24 26 27.
Crushing the Palace Uprising
System notifications alert Di Xin to coordinated resentment among the ministers. He advances to Qi Refining into Spirit before confronting the uprising, kills Yang Ren, Fang Bi, and Fang Xiang, and spares their soldiers at Queen Jiang’s request 32 33 36 37.
Jiang Ziya survives Di Xin’s pursuit through repeated Heavenly Dao protection. With assistance from Daji’s sisters, Di Xin dazes him using Yu Linglong’s pipa form, leaving him to escape with one arm burned away 40 41.
Rather than executing Bi Gan and Huang Feihu, Di Xin publicly identifies them as secret collaborators who betrayed the rebels. The maneuver preserves their service while destroying their standing among their former allies 43.
Recruiting Against Future Retaliation
Expecting Jiang Ziya to return with more dangerous treasures, Di Xin orders recruitment without restrictions of race, background, or origin. He specifically seeks the six brothers of Mount Mei and summons Kong Xuan, using the word “phoenix” if persuasion is needed. These are recruitment plans; their success is not documented in the provided chapters 44 45.
His subsequent lottery draws unlock transformation, while his deepening relationship with Queen Jiang leads to a reward that grants the Great True Phoenix Art 47 49.
