Background / History
Daji belongs to the Qingqiu Fox lineage. Her parents died when she was young, and her family was gone by the time she settled in Xuanyuan Tomb. When Nuwa summoned the demons with the Myriad Demon Banner, the Qingqiu Fox clan put her forward for the mission that would entangle her in Great Shang’s downfall 41.
Nuwa promised her spiritual fruition in exchange for corrupting Di Xin and throwing his kingdom into chaos. The original human Su Daji had already been eaten when the fox arrived at court in her identity; even Su Hu failed to recognize the substitution 1 2 26.
Her willingness to endure the mission was reinforced by fear of Nuwa’s punishment and concern for the three hundred inhabitants of Xuanyuan Tomb 11.
Appearance
Daji’s human guise has dark hair, fair skin, curved phoenix eyes, crimson lips, and a slender waist. At her first audience, she wears a long white gown and carries a rich fragrance compared to sandalwood, cosmetics, and strong liquor 1.
- True form: A snow-white fox with nine fluffy white tails and large, ruby-like eyes 25.
- Partial fox form: Can retain her human appearance while revealing white fox ears and all nine tails 34.
- Exposed fangs: Her canines lengthen when she becomes enraged at Di Xin’s teasing 25.
Personality
Initially, Daji treats seduction as both her specialty and the means of completing Nuwa’s assignment. She is unsettled by her own attraction to Di Xin, believing that fox demons do not fall in love. His repeated provocations expose an easily angered side beneath her practiced, coquettish manner 2 6 25.
Fear strongly influences her early decisions: she persists through physical pain because she fears Nuwa more, then changes allegiance after Di Xin convinces her that fulfilling the mission will leave her bearing its karmic consequences. Her submission begins under sword pressure and a promise of protection, but later develops into affection, jealousy, and open loyalty 11 26 34 41.
She is also knowledgeable about the Demon Tribe’s decline and concerned for its scattered people. Rather than promising effortless recruitment, she warns Di Xin that many demons resent humanity for benefiting from the Witch-Demon War 27.
