Du Yu persuaded Fahai to take Xu Xian to Jinshan Temple to become a monk, despite Fahai’s promise to reunite him with Bai Suzhen. As the townspeople gathered to thank Fahai, one recognized Xu Xian, threatening to spread news of their departure to Bai Suzhen.
Bai Suzhen learned that she lacked the power to flood Jinshan Temple, so Medusa took up the Sea God Trident and raised a colossal wave to rescue Xu Xian. Du Yu prepared the temple for the flood, and Medusa and Bai Suzhen arrived before Fahai with the wave towering behind them.
Du Yu found that the sea’s sudden deployment had confused even the Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals, then used the chaos to trick Li Jing into responding. Li Jing ordered an immediate descent to the mortal world and sent the Four Heavenly Kings to seek the Queen Mother of the West’s approval, leaving the troop deployment unresolved.
Li Jing’s unauthorized force met the Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals at Jinshan Temple, where Medusa and Bai Suzhen fought Fahai amid the chaos. The battle escalated into a clash between Medusa’s giant form and Fahai’s golden Buddha, while Nezha and Yang Jian recognized a resemblance to He Suoyi’s black Buddha technique.
Two mysterious, scar-covered men attacked Du Yu inside the White Snake Legend, while a barrier kept Zhan Qisheng from entering to help. As the men countered Shiranui Asuka and Medusa, Medusa transformed into her Demon Beast form to protect Du Yu.
Du Yu faced two strange men who claimed Sage wanted him dead, while Fahai fought them and Du Yu tried to get Medusa and Shiranui Asuka to safety. Xu Xian stabbed Bai Suzhen, who discovered he had never known her true identity and sank wounded into the sea, where Medusa sensed trouble and a green water snake found her.
Bai Suzhen survived Xu Xian’s attack and reunited with Medusa and Du Yu, who decided Xu Xian should die despite the legend’s expected plot. As Li Jing brought Leifeng Pagoda down to capture Medusa, Bai Suzhen pushed her and the little green snake out of danger and was trapped beneath the pagoda.
Du Yu realized the legend had not reached its true ending because Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian’s child, Xu Shilin, had never appeared, and he headed to the mountaintop to uncover the missing answer. Meanwhile, the Green-Clad Girl fought the heavenly forces while Fahai insisted on killing her, despite Li Jing’s warnings that she was Old Mother of Mount Li’s disciple.
Li Jing stopped Fahai from pursuing Bai Suzhen, and the Four Sea Dragon Kings settled the flood dispute as an accident. Du Yu and Medusa later returned to the Broken Bridge, where Du Yu gave Bai Suzhen Xu Xian’s old letter and a new encounter with Xu Xuan began.
After completing the White Snake legend, Du Yu discussed the mysterious Sage with the Queen Mother of the West and Weaver Girl, who deduced that the killers might have come from the future. The Queen Mother of the West revealed that Houtu, who was close to Xingtian, might help uncover the truth.
Du Yu discovered that Lady Houtu’s forgetfulness stemmed from drinking eighteen bowls of Meng Po Soup to forget Xingtian and suppress her demonic heart. The Queen Mother of the West explained that Houtu had spent thousands of years using her power to resist the soup, and Du Yu was left to consider whether he could help.
Du Yu and the Queen Mother of the West discussed Houtu’s lingering grief for Xingtian before Qu Xi asked to accompany Du Yu to Meng Po, hoping to forget her painful past. As Weaver Girl guided them across the Bridge of Helplessness, she explained the torment endured by spirits who tried to preserve their memories of loved ones.
Du Yu and Qu Xi followed Weaver Girl across the Bridge of Helplessness to meet Meng Po, learning that she held the same immortal rank as the Great Emperors. In the Inner Yellow Springs, Weaver Girl revealed her authority and led them into Meng Po’s house, where they were about to meet her.
Du Yu, Qu Xi, and Weaver Girl visited Meng Po to ask her to erase Qu Xi’s painful memories, but Meng Po explained that removing them without losing other memories had never been achieved. The chapter ended with Meng Po recalling someone who had tried to use Magic Power to protect other memories, without success.
Du Yu learned that Houtu’s memories of Xingtian might remain as faint traces, then discovered the bound man at Meng Po’s residence was the present-day Brother, the assassin who would later target him. Du Yu chose to rescue Brother and take him away, hoping to prevent him from ever meeting Sage.
Du Yu helped an injured, amnesiac man who claimed to have a little brother, then carried him to a bar to find him. When Weaver Girl demanded to see Cowherd, she fought the bar’s thugs, and Cowherd appeared before suddenly kneeling to her.
Du Yu followed Cowherd to learn why he had charged for treating the injured younger brother, while Black Impermanence and White Impermanence recognized the assassin as A Can and questioned their memories. The younger brother’s missing po had been replaced, and Du Yu offered to pay Cowherd so he could take the brothers with him, but Cowherd refused the money as a welcoming gift.
Du Yu learned that the younger brother’s replacement soul was being devoured and decided to retrieve the stolen soul aspect from An Lushan, leader of Wild Mountain. Cowherd and the Lang Group prepared to back him, while Du Yu told Qu Xi he had a way to restore her memories but did not want to use it.
Du Yu joined Cowherd and Weaver Girl as Cowherd rallied his forces to attack An Lushan’s Wild Mountain. An Lushan ambushed them in East Street, and the battle began with Du Yu fighting amid the chaos.
Cowherd and the Lang Group fought An Lushan’s forces while allies attacked from behind and An Lushan’s lieutenant moved to seize West Street. At Cowherd’s bar, Liu Ling revealed his terrifying strength, slaughtered the invading hundreds, and let their leader live after cutting off both his arms.
Du Yu confronted An Lushan after An Lushan's raid on West Street failed, then chased him into a trapped alley to recover A Kui's soul fragment. An unknown scarred young man killed An Lushan and revealed that he recognized Du Yu and intended to kill him.
Du Yu was cornered by A Can and A Kui, future assassins who knew his history and blocked his attempt to summon help. Master Wazhang intervened and drove the brothers away, but warned that all Seven Outstanding Disciples of the Sage had mobilized.
After killing An Lushan and recovering A Kui’s soul fragment, Du Yu returned to the bar and struggled with doubts about whether he could trust the Shame and Guilt Brothers. He decided to take the brothers to Mount Unreturning, but learned that Empress Medusa and Shiranui Asuka were preparing to leave.
After returning from the Underworld, Du Yu realized the assassins might be following a history he was destined to create—and feared that his future self, Sage, had ordered them to kill him. At Mount Unreturning, he kept the Shame and Guilt Brothers and said goodbye to Medusa and Shiranui Asuka, while Medusa promised Greece would help him if he ever needed it.
Du Yu said goodbye to Medusa and the Immortals while learning that Shiranui Asuka planned to stay in China. After the Queen Mother of the West revealed that the Underworld had Seven Great Underworld Enforcers and only one Impermanence, Du Yu realized the unresolved Black and White Impermanence legend had changed, then discovered that Zhan Qisheng still remembered both figures.
