Background / History

Lin Ye belonged to the Lin Family of the Jia Ma Empire’s Imperial Capital. Although his family did not match the three great families, it possessed enough standing and influence for him to boast that it could help control Liu Ling’s proposed scheme. Within the Misty Cloud Sect, he held the highest-ranked position among Inner Sect disciples 63 81 88.

He resented Nalan Yanran’s position as the sect’s designated successor, believing that without her he would have become its future Young Sect Master. Xiao Qian’s arrival intensified that insecurity: Lin Ye later described his feelings toward Nalan Yanran as resentment, but toward Xiao Qian as “jealousy and fear” 107.

His objection to Xiao Qian’s admission is framed as protecting other disciples’ hard-earned positions, while his private thoughts reveal a desire to keep Xiao Qian in the Outer Sect where he can suppress him 57 63 66.

His alliance with Liu Ling is driven by ambition rather than affection for Nalan Yanran. He is secretly pleased when she rejects their demands because the resulting trouble will harm her standing. As Xiao Qian repeatedly succeeds, Lin Ye’s composure deteriorates into rage, malicious hopes for his death, and finally public accusations after losing the tournament 81 90 107 113 114.

Opposition to Xiao Qian’s Admission

Lin Ye initially declines to intervene when Xiao Qian challenges the mountain gate, privately welcoming the possibility of Nalan Yanran losing face. He nevertheless comes to witness the stele’s unprecedented reading of eighty-one stages of Dou Qi 57 61.

When Elder Yun Lei grants Xiao Qian an Inner Sect place, Lin Ye argues that he should remain outside until reaching Dou Zhe and winning admission through a challenge. Xiao Qian’s rapid breakthrough and victory over Yang Yuan defeat this objection. Lin Ye subsequently belittles him in the dining hall, where Nalan Yanran challenges his double standard 63 64 67 69.

Wind Cloud Art and Wind Thunder Gorge

At the compatibility test, Lin Ye tries to sow rivalry between Xiao Qian and Nalan Yanran and predicts that Xiao Qian’s fire attribute will cause him to fail. Xiao Qian instead manifests wind-attribute Dou Qi and receives the Wind Cloud Art inheritance, prompting Lin Ye to shout at the technique itself 76 77.

After Xiao Qian breaks his record and jumps into Wind Thunder Gorge, Lin Ye celebrates the apparent danger and hopes Yun Yun will not rescue him. He then agrees to Liu Ling’s whispered plan against Xiao Qian 81.

Imperial Capital Hunting Competition

Lin Ye and Liu Ling offer Nalan Yanran a guaranteed tournament victory in exchange for distancing herself from Xiao Qian, restricting his privileges, and preventing his qualification for the Gate of Life and Death. She refuses despite threats against her future in both the capital and the sect 89 90.

When Xiao Qian returns, Lin Ye stops Liu Ling from immediately raising his eligibility issue, intending to reserve it as a means of overturning a victory. During the competition, Lin Ye advances from field five and defeats Mu Zhan before reaching the final without a teammate 91 98 106 107.

In the final, he offers to relinquish the pill prizes and proposes that each side fight one Third-Rank Magic Wolf. He then delays helping while both beasts attack Xiao Qian. Xiao Qian redirects their barrage toward him, forcing him into combat 108 109.

After Xiao Qian defeats one wolf, Lin Ye is thrown down near him and Nalan Yanran, allowing the remaining beast to target the exhausted Xiao Qian. Yun Yun later explicitly judges that Lin Ye deliberately let an attack slip, placing his fellow disciples in mortal danger 112 115.

Defeat and Expulsion

Xiao Qian kills the remaining wolf, but Lin Ye challenges his eligibility. Nalan Su produces Xiao Qian and Nalan Yanran’s marriage contract, establishing his right to represent the Nalan Family. Lin Ye then accuses Liu Ling and Gu He of arranging the competition to favor Nalan Yanran and questions whether Xiao Qian’s victories were genuine 112 113 114.

Yun Yun intervenes and condemns his conspiracy and deliberate endangerment of fellow disciples. She expels him from the Misty Cloud Sect and imposes a lifelong ban on its cultivation methods and combat skills. Lin Ye nearly collapses, left in despair and regret 114 115.
