Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Lamp-protected foothold 18 Actual controlled territory consists of a small area centered on the winery. Land counts as occupied territory only where the Gray Fog is absent and residents can move freely.
Prosperity Domain established 24 Field becomes a first-tier lord. His domain disperses death fog and accelerates the removal of corruption’s effects, allowing the settlement to remain protected without an active Mist-Driving Lamp.
Protected area expanded eastward 30 Over one week, the territory gains 5,000 square meters in the eastern woods. Newly cleared land comes under Field’s permanent protection after monsters and residual corruption are removed.

Background / History

Before Field’s Arrival

Nightfall Territory once contained prosperous settlements. The Grand Manor at its heart belonged to Baroness Sophia Starrynight, whose Starry Night City stood within sight of the estate. Explorer Lucas also remembered Nightfall, Cloudveil, and Dawnveil as outlying baronies known for fine wine and beautiful women 12 24.

Ten years before Field’s exile, the Holy Griffin Empire used corrupting mists to destroy an army of 300,000 orcs in the Northern Frontier. The region’s humans, animals, and defeated orc soldiers became corrupted creatures. Three imperial reclamation campaigns ended in annihilation, leaving its territories as fiefs that existed largely in name 1.

Field’s Exile and Settlement

Field’s stepmother assigned him Nightfall Territory upon his coming of age. Count Kurt provided only 500 gold coins and permission to take his personal servants. Its reputation was so dire that mercenaries refused to accompany him 1 4.

Before entering the Gray Fog, Field seized weapons and armor from Ka Mountain Fortress and sent men to collect supplies from Bull Territory villages under the guise of tax collection. Using an outdated map, he chose the Grand Manor as a base for eventually reclaiming Starry Night City 11 12.

After reaching the estate, Field established a small settlement centered on the Starry Night Winery. Residents cleared corrupted vegetation and creatures, and he introduced paid work, military rewards, and a route out of slavery. His awakening as a first-tier lord made the foothold sustainable without continuous lamp protection 18 20 23 24.

Recruitment and Renewed Reclamation

Field traveled to Mapleleaf City to obtain food, supplies, craftsmen, and administrative help. He recruited Tate, took the carpenter Greyhound and surviving caravan workers into service, and purchased 300 slaves with provisions for three months 36 41 42.

Upon returning, Field prioritized reclaiming farmland and houses rather than immediately maximizing taxes or population. Tate began organizing internal affairs, while housing shortages and failed sanitation enforcement exposed the settlement’s practical limitations 44 45 46.

Geography & Locations

Location Description
Grand Manor Historic estate at the territory’s heart; selected by Field as his reclamation base 12.
Starry Night Winery / Grand Winery Center of Field’s occupied land and his residence. Its damaged structure requires removal of corruption, replacement of rotten timber, and repairs to collapsed sections 18 23 45.
Starry Night City Formerly thriving city within sight of the Grand Manor; Field intends to reclaim it gradually 12.
Nearby farmland Part of the protected settlement, but initially toxic and slow to recover even after purification 19 24 29.
Eastern woods and quarry Reclamation targets needed to support future housing construction. Expansion into the woods begins before Field’s supply expedition 30 46.
Freemen’s settlement plot Small area south of the Grand Winery, occupied by roughly a dozen freemen when Tate arrives 44.
Granary Cleared of Corpse Ghouls by Ashina, but its wheat is corrupted and most of the structure has collapsed 30.
  • Ka Mountain Fortress lies on Field’s initial route into the Northern Frontier. Richard Bull views Nightfall Territory as a buffer protecting the fortress from corrupted creatures 7 8.
  • Mapleleaf City, in Highcastle Province, becomes Field’s destination for trade and recruitment. Reaching it requires crossing the monster-infested Gray Fog 23 31.

Government & Society

Laws and Labor

  • Freedom through earnings: Slaves can purchase freedom for one gold coin, earned through monster hunting or other rewarded work 12 20.
  • Personal property: Field permits slaves to own property and save money, though they are not permitted to spend it while enslaved 32.
  • Military bounty: Guards receive one silver coin per Corpse Ghoul killed 19 20.
  • Work incentives: Field promises monthly rewards for outstanding servants and offers winery workers 20 copper coins each for completing a clearing task within three days 19 24.
  • Racial policy: Field rejects Kao’s objections to demihuman advancement and tells residents to set aside racial prejudice 19 20.
  • Education and rehabilitation: Field plans to teach slaves skills, correct harmful habits, and identify those who have committed crimes 44 45.

Living Conditions and Sanitation

  • Housing shortage: Slaves live in crowded tents made from rotten wood and ragged cloth; even freemen lack proper houses 46.
  • Sanitation decree: Public defecation is prohibited, with waste to be collected in designated pits. The original policy allows three warnings before fines 30.
  • Enforcement failure: After finding excrement still scattered across roads, Field introduces fines or lashes and assigns slave women and children to collect it 46.
  • Food distribution: Guards enforce queues, while Sparrow organizes ten lines. The stated daily ration is one bowl of porridge and two chunks of black bread per person, including dinner 48.

Key Personnel

  • Field Rose — Lord, lawmaker, and organizer of reclamation, trade, and military training 20 30 45.
  • Ashina — Contracted Wolf Rider Chosen One; clears monsters and helps train cavalry 19 24 30.
  • Kao — Butler and steward responsible for supplies and enforcement of Field’s orders 23 30 46.
  • Tate — Internal-affairs adviser tasked with assigning labor and preventing slave revolts 44.
  • Wildcat — Guard leader; remains behind to defend the settlement during Field’s expedition 12 30.
  • Greyhound — Skilled carpenter recruited to work in the territory 41.
  • Old Turtle Dove — Receives Field’s instructions to collect and use manure for the fields 46.

Defense & Territorial Abilities

Prosperity Domain

  • Disperses the fog of death within controlled territory and accelerates recovery from corruption 24.
  • Protects newly reclaimed land only after monsters, corrupted plants, and small corrupted animals have been cleared 30.
  • Does not prevent hostile creatures from physically entering the settlement; residents must keep new corrupted creatures out 25 30.

Military Forces

Force or Resource Documented Strength / Function
Raiding Cavalry Twenty-man unit formed from wolf demihumans in the original guard and new recruits 20.
Guard Thirty-three soldiers after Field’s recruitment and reorganization 20.
Captured armory supplies Weapons and armor sufficient to equip 500 men 11.
Ranged weapons Eighty crossbows and 100 standard Imperial bows seized at Ka Mountain Fortress; Field initially equips twenty ranged soldiers 13.
Ashina’s Dragon-Breed Wolf Provides frontline combat power, fire attacks, and scent tracking 25 27 44.

Ashina-Derived Lord Talents

  • Ferocious Beast Taming — Makes it easier to raise fierce beasts for warfare within the territory 24.
  • Investiture — Allows fifty Wolf Riders to be advanced to the first tier; the status panel lists this capability but does not document fifty completed promotions 24.

Threats

  • Corpse Ghouls and Corpse Tides: Surround the settlement and endanger supply convoys 15 29 43.
  • Corrupted remains: Dead corrupted creatures can become new contamination sources unless properly disposed of 7.
  • Goblin raids: Attackers kill two slaves and abduct a woman before Field and Ashina destroy their camp. Their ability to reproduce with corrupted creatures makes them a continuing concern 25 26 27.
  • Lack of walls: Field explicitly identifies the unwalled settlement as vulnerable to infiltration 25.

Economy & Agriculture

Supplies and Trade

  • Import dependence: The settlement initially produces no food and must purchase grain and fodder to survive 30 35.
  • Wine and scroll sales: Field takes ten barrels of Black Pearl Grapes Wine and a crate of Magic Scrolls to Mapleleaf Territory, selling his goods for 5,020 gold coins 31 34.
  • Winery restoration: Ashina proposes making wine again, but Field places security ahead of production 18.
  • Limited services: The settlement does not even have a tavern during Field’s first Mapleleaf visit 32.

Agricultural Development

  • Damaged soil: Removing corruption does not immediately restore fertility; Field expects low yields 29 35.
  • Livestock plans: He plans a ranch raising chickens, ducks, pigs, and cattle, with manure also used to improve farmland 35.
  • Tools and methods: The territory has several cattle but lacks plows. Workers initially cultivate with hoes or bare hands, without proper furrows or boundary ditches 44.
  • Practical reforms: Field orders manure used as fertilizer and personally demonstrates furrow digging 46 47.
  • Production limits: Ashina’s abilities are military rather than agricultural. Field expects food imports to remain necessary even if wheat and vegetable cultivation succeeds 47.

External Relations

  • Bull Territory — Nightfall serves as its frontier buffer. After Richard Bull refuses assistance, Field appropriates fortress equipment and obtains village supplies through fraudulent tax collection 8 11 12.
  • Mapleleaf Territory — Trading and recruitment destination where Field sells recovered goods and seeks food, craftsmen, and giant wolf mounts 23 34 36.
  • Church — Elisa proposes establishing a church and warrior garrison in Nightfall. Field refuses, fearing loss of control over his land; no agreement on supplies or divine-artifact information is reached 43.
