Knock, knock, knock-
Lin En politely knocked on the door several more times.
But there was no response. He could not even hear footsteps inside.
Lin En scratched the top of his skull in confusion.
"Is nobody home?"
Meanwhile, behind the window, a tiny, huddled figure tremblingly reached out a little hand and retrieved a small revolver from beneath the curtain box, then fumbled silver bullets out of her clothes.
Slowly, as carefully as possible, she loaded the bullets, trying not to make a sound.
Click-one.
Click-two.
Click-three.
When she finally loaded the sixth, she could not get the seventh bullet in, no matter how her hands trembled.
"Why won't it go in...?"
"Because it only holds six! Can't you see there aren't any empty chambers left? And you're still trying to cram it in!"
The figure hiding beneath the window said, (;≧д≦):
"This is my first time using a gun! How am I supposed to know how many it holds? Besides, it's pitch-black! How could I possibly see...?"
"..."
A brief silence fell.
A chilly wind whistled past.
The figure's expression abruptly went blank.
Wait!
Because she was one hundred percent certain that she was absolutely, positively the only person in this house!
Then that voice just now was...
Instinctively, she slowly raised her head.
There, pressed against the window, was a terrifying face with the corners of its mouth stretched into an enormous grin. Its wide, round eyes stared at her. Clearly, it had been watching her for quite some time.
"Hello!"
"A ghost (ΩДΩ)!!!"

"Hey! Let me explain!"
Bang-
A gunshot rang out.
The little girl immediately scrambled away in a panic, rushing out of the bedroom as fast as she could. She pulled open the large drawer beneath the wardrobe and stuffed herself inside.
She curled up tightly, hugging her knees with both hands (;д;), her long curls covering her entire body.
Don't let him find me!
Please, please don't let him find me!
Although she had not gotten a clear look at what kind of ghost that was, it was undoubtedly some terrifying evil spirit that ate children!
She covered her mouth, tears of misery pattering out of her large eyes.
"Waaah-"
Why was she so unlucky?
How could something still come looking for her when she had hidden all the way out here?!
And hadn't her sister said that as long as she stuck a [Spirit-Sealing Talisman] on the door, ordinary ghosts and evil spirits wouldn't dare come anywhere near it?! Why wasn't that monster afraid at all?!
And just then-
Creeeak-
The front door opened.
Under the light of the Blood Moon, a long shadow stretched into the living room.
It came in!!
A shudder ran from the soles of her feet to the tips of her hair, and her eyes instantly widened.
[Ding! Hana Ye's Sanity -1]
Fortunately, besides the Spirit-Sealing Talisman, she had placed plenty of Holy Artifacts blessed with Holy Water throughout the house!
More importantly, as an extra precaution, she had hung an authentic holy image of the [Valkyrie] in the living room, directly opposite the door!
She had paid a fortune to borrow it from the church. It was a genuine consecrated holy image, imbued with the mighty power of the sun, capable of driving out evil and subduing demons!
Please...
Please let it work!
Otherwise, if she got killed, she would really be done for!
The seconds ticked by.
Hearing nothing all this time, she finally could not resist her nervous curiosity. Her heart pounding, she opened her eyes a sliver and peered through the gap in the wardrobe, holding her breath.
The dark figure seemed to have stopped there, as though something had caught his attention.
Then-
He suddenly strode forward.
Whoosh-
Under her shocked, terrified gaze, the Holy Artifacts she had placed on the floor and tables all began cracking with a series of sharp snaps.
And as the dark figure passed them, every last one burst apart.
They...
They didn't work!!
[Ding! Liuli Yin's fear of you +10] [Ding! Liuli Yin's fear of you +10]
No!
She covered her mouth and immediately shook her head in terror.
Those were only ordinary Holy Artifacts! It was perfectly normal for them to fail against ordinary ghosts!
But she still had the Valkyrie's holy image!
Under normal circumstances, even a terrifying high-level evil spirit would be wary before the Valkyrie's holy image and would not dare offend her!
Because she was the Sun Goddess who had helped their entire human civilization emerge from Eternal Night after the Age of the Gods!
So surely!
Surely it could subdue him!
Lin En stopped beneath the wall directly opposite the living room entrance.
Right in front of him hung a portrait of a goddess who looked familiar no matter how he looked at her. Aloof and holy, she seemed to look down upon all living beings.
"Isn't that whatshername?"
Lin En stared with dead-fish eyes. How could he possibly fail to recognize her?
Even if he were reduced to ashes, he would still recognize that woman! She was locked up in his little dark room right now, after all. And as for how this differed from the real woman...
Perhaps she was wearing a little more clothing.
So.
Why was her portrait hanging here?
"You slashed me for ten years, while they worship you down here?!"
Lin En (〝▼皿▼) instantly flew into a rage.
He bit his finger and swiftly added dozens of strokes to the portrait.
Scratch, scratch, scratch-
Scratch, scratch, scratch-
After a long while, Lin En finally finished altering the picture. He flicked his finger, folded his arms, and sneered.
"Now that's more like it!"
He strode away (* ̄︶ ̄).
On the wall, after those few dozen strokes, the once aloof and holy portrait had become an image of the goddess suffering, bound in chains and wearing a bikini, utterly depraved and blasphemous.
Without question, if the church ever saw this, it would be considered such an act of blasphemy that people would still gnash their teeth even after burning him at the Stake a hundred times.
Time ticked away.
The figure hiding in the drawer covered her little mouth and strained to peer through the gap with wide eyes.
But because of the angle, she could never see the entire living room.
"It's been so long. Surely it must have done something by now."
She prayed softly, her eyes wide.
She had only seen that the monster seemed to have walked inside, and she could feel the blazing power emanating from the portrait. That meant the Valkyrie's portrait must have reacted!
Finally.
She could no longer contain her immense curiosity.
At last, she carefully pushed the drawer open with her feet and slowly crawled out. Crouching low and holding her breath, she crept toward the side door.
Her two little hands gripped the edge of the door as she cautiously peeked around it, timidly straining to see what was happening outside.
"Has it been subdued?"
She wondered.
"What's been subdued?"
Above her, another pair of eyes was also peering outside along with her in curiosity.
She furtively pushed the door open a little farther, her eyes blinking as she focused on looking outside. Revealing her little pointed canine teeth, she said:
"The monster, of course! I spent a lot of money getting that holy image. Keep your voice down. Don't let it hear us, or we could still get eaten!"
"Oh, oh!"
Then she finally gathered her courage.
She swallowed.
Instinctively, she grabbed the wrist behind her.
On tiptoe.
Little by little, she crept out like a cat.
