Arc 3The Valkyrie’s Chosen

Lin En rescued Hana Ye from the Crimson Secret Cult’s bounty hunters, then used the Valkyrie’s name and authority to win Ophiel’s trust and gain influence in the Church. As Lin En and Hana Ye traveled with Salgon toward a rift, a strange fortune-telling skeleton predicted that Lin En would become a star and bring calamity.

  • Lin En discovered that his newly synthesized Origin Substance contained two [Flesh] sequences and [Feminization], then persuaded Shinsen Saya to nurture it with her Holy Flame in exchange for maintaining the blazing sun.
  • Lin En descended to the Seven Nights World and found that bounty hunters had kidnapped Hana Ye, and he and Salgon tracked her to the Grand Graveyard and confronted the hunters and their client, Headless Knight · Mordred.
  • Lin En defeated Mordred and learned the Crimson Secret Cult had targeted Hana Ye as a possible [Vessel], but an unseen force killed Mordred before he could reveal more.
  • Lin En reassured Hana Ye that he would not abandon her, then authorized Salgon to establish a Divine Cult and recruit the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich to serve his faction.
  • Ophiel, the Armored Angel, found Lin En and Hana Ye, and Lin En convinced her that he was Shinsen Saya’s chosen by reciting the Valkyrie’s secret true name.
  • Lin En encouraged Ophiel to confess her failures and repentance, then persuaded her that the Valkyrie understood, and Ophiel appointed Lin En to oversee investigations into the Church.
  • Lin En, Hana Ye, and Salgon traveled toward Salgon’s territory and a rift, where a strange skeleton read Hana Ye’s fortune as “Loneliness” and refused to read Lin En’s.
  • After the skeleton vanished, a ninth-tier Origin Substance with the [Omen] sequence appeared, and Salgon recalled its prediction that Lin En would become a star a thousand years in the future.
Chapters 51–75 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 51A way back to the human world!

Lin En synthesized origin substance containing two [Flesh] sequences and [Feminization], which Salgon said could strengthen Lin En’s mortal vessel enough to withstand another descent. Lin En considered using it until he discovered the third sequence and refused to implant it.

  • Lin En revealed that he could create and fuse origin substance, then activated the sequences in a newly synthesized piece.
  • Lin En discovered that the first two sequences were both [Flesh], and Salgon proposed using them to strengthen Lin En’s frail mortal vessel for another descent.
  • Lin En activated the third sequence and found it was [Feminization].
  • Salgon stopped Lin En from smashing the origin substance, but Lin En refused to use it because of the sequence’s effects.

Ch. 52My Beloved Miss Valkyrie!

Lin En considered ways to strengthen his [Holy Flame] Sequence so he could descend without using the [Feminization] Origin Substance. He sent a fleshly copy to test the imprisoned Valkyrie, but her golden flames erupted and left him waiting outside amid the explosions.

  • Salgon suggested fusing Lin En's two Origin Substances or suppressing his aura and size with [Holy Flame] to make his projection fit.
  • Lin En learned that Sequences could be strengthened through long-term use or by receiving power from a stronger user of the same Sequence.
  • Lin En realized the imprisoned Valkyrie could help strengthen his [Holy Flame] and approached the Black Mist door with Salgon.
  • Lin En sent an aberrant tadpole copy into the room to check whether the Valkyrie had recovered.
  • The Valkyrie opened her eyes and unleashed golden flames, while Lin En waited outside as the room shook with explosions.

Ch. 53You wouldn't want humanity to die out because of you, would you?

Lin En revealed that he had captured the weakened Valkyrie, Shinsen Saya, and taunted her while Salgon learned of their long-running conflict. He offered to spare innocents for ten days if she met his condition, then threatened that the world would fall into Eternal Night without her support.

  • Lin En retrieved a tadpole he had used to endure Shinsen Saya's five-hour attack and revealed her to Salgon.
  • Salgon was shocked to discover that the captive was his world's Valkyrie, while Lin En bragged about fighting her for ten years.
  • Shinsen Saya attacked Lin En, but he disarmed and restrained her, then taunted her as Salgon grew more reverent toward his master.
  • Lin En offered not to slaughter innocents for ten days if Shinsen Saya agreed to a condition, and Salgon claimed Lin En had eaten eight thousand people.
  • Lin En warned Shinsen Saya that the blazing sun might fail without her support, plunging the world into Eternal Night and killing humanity.

Ch. 54Nobody has ever called me master!

Lin En pressured Shinsen Saya to accept a deal by threatening to let her world fall to Eternal Night while they watched. He left her with no choice but to call him “Master,” and she asked whether he was satisfied.

  • Lin En offered Shinsen Saya a deal and threatened to remain with her as her people died in Eternal Night if she refused.
  • Shinsen Saya rejected his threat, insisting she would rather let her people die than submit to him, then attacked him in fury.
  • Lin En told Shinsen Saya he would wait ten years before reporting on the world below, and she stopped him to ask what deal he wanted.
  • Lin En pretended he had lost interest in a deal and claimed nobody had ever called him master.
  • Lin En shot Salgon unconscious after Salgon called him master, then continued toward the exit.
  • Shinsen Saya called Lin En “Master” and asked whether he was satisfied.

Ch. 55Say You Love Me So Much!

Lin En forced Shinsen Saya to serve him and nurture his Origin Substance with her Holy Flame, while she demanded he preserve the blazing sun and threatened to self-destruct. After taking the improved substance and descending toward the Seven Nights World, Lin En sensed that something was wrong because only his presence was there.

  • Lin En made Shinsen Saya repeat humiliating declarations and massage him, rewarding her with extra days while Salgon recorded the terms of their oath.
  • Shinsen Saya agreed to nurture Lin En’s Origin Substance with her Holy Flame, but demanded he let her maintain the blazing sun’s stability and threatened to self-destruct if she remained disconnected.
  • Lin En deducted ten days from Shinsen Saya for speaking to him in a tone he disliked, then left with Salgon and the newly nurtured Origin Substance.
  • Salgon confirmed Shinsen Saya’s Holy Flame had caused a qualitative change in the Sequence, and Lin En set out for the Seven Nights World.
  • Lin En paid 510 satiety points to descend, imprisoned Salgon in his hand, and realized that only his presence was there.

Ch. 56Hana Ye Was Kidnapped!

Lin En woke to find Hana Ye missing and discovered that kidnappers had taken her for a fifty-thousand-Spirit-Coin bounty. Hana Ye was held in a tomb by an Evil Spirit Wizard and a lich, who planned to exchange her with their client.

  • Lin En returned to human form, found Hana Ye gone, and discovered traces showing someone had dug her out of her hiding place.
  • Lin En retrieved the [Blood-Character Bounty Writ] and confirmed Hana Ye had been kidnapped for a fifty-thousand-Spirit-Coin bounty.
  • The Evil Spirit Wizard and the lich questioned whether Hana Ye was the right target, but the wizard confirmed her identity from the Bounty Writ.
  • Hana Ye cried out that her husband would kill the kidnappers, but the Evil Spirit Wizard and the lich mocked her claim.
  • The Evil Spirit Wizard said their client would come to exchange Spirit Coins, after which the kidnappers would leave.

Ch. 57After this job, I'm going home to get married!

Lin En and Salgon tracked the kidnapped girl to a graveyard, where Salgon led his undead summons against the captors. The Lich emerged and mocked Salgon for serving a human, setting the stage for their confrontation.

  • The Evil Spirit wizard spoke of spending his bounty on a ghost marriage, and the Lich beat him for tempting fate.
  • A Corpse Fiend warned the Lich that a high-ranking Skeleton Lord and a cloaked human had attacked his tomb.
  • Salgon used his Bone Locator to lead Lin En to the graveyard where the girl had been taken.
  • Salgon summoned more than a hundred Skeleton Guards, who overwhelmed the ghouls and Corpse Fiends.
  • The Lich emerged from his tomb and recognized Salgon, who demanded that he hand over the kidnapped girl.
  • The Lich mocked Salgon for serving Lin En, and Salgon replied that he had a new master.

Ch. 58You dared abduct my master's little girl!

Lin En found Hana Ye in the burial chamber, but the Evil Spirit Wizard had used her as bait to trap him in poison mist and a magic circle. Lin En resisted the poison and broke free with Holy Flame, while the Wizard backed away in terror and Lin En ordered him to put Hana Ye down.

  • Salgon struck the Lich for abducting Lin En's little girl, while Lin En located Hana Ye with the Bounty Writ.
  • Lin En found a bound Hana Ye in a burial chamber, but pulling the cloth from her mouth triggered a poison-mist trap and revealed the real Hana Ye in the Evil Spirit Wizard's grasp.
  • Hana Ye's cries shook the chamber until the Evil Spirit Wizard stuffed the cloth back into her mouth.
  • Lin En inhaled the Bone-Eroding Poison Mist without succumbing, then broke the restraining magic circle with Holy Flame.
  • The Evil Spirit Wizard recoiled from Lin En, who ordered him to put Hana Ye down.

Ch. 59Would My Master Care About These Things?!

Lin En rescued Hana Ye from the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich, then forced them to surrender their Spirit Coins. He left the frightened captives alive for the moment, offering them tea while Hana Ye remained gagged atop the loot.

  • The Evil Spirit Wizard tried to escape, but Lin En restrained him with a tentacle and demanded to know whether he had known Hana Ye was hidden beneath Lin En’s body.
  • Salgon returned with the Lich’s skull and revealed that the two Bounty Hunters had knowingly teleported Hana Ye away despite sensing Lin En’s presence.
  • Lin En decided the hunters deserved death, but the Evil Spirit Wizard offered their money in exchange for mercy.
  • Salgon rejected the hunters as unworthy dogs, while Lin En accepted their Spirit Coins and sat down to count the loot.
  • Lin En served tea to the trembling Evil Spirit Wizard and Lich, replacing the Lich’s poisoned cup with fresh tea as Hana Ye struggled on the pile of coins.

Ch. 60There Really Wasn't a Drop Left!

Lin En forced the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich to hand over their gear and savings before questioning them about the bounty on his wife. He learned that the Void Consortium had arranged the bounty and that the client was expected to come to the great cemetery for the exchange.

  • Lin En frightened the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich into giving him their equipment, potions, scrolls, and spatial rings as gifts between friends.
  • Lin En persuaded the two bounty hunters to hand over their deposit certificates, leaving them with nothing but their underwear.
  • Salgon explained that the Void Consortium was a neutral trading organization that posted bounties and operated throughout the Spirit Realm.
  • The Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich said they did not know who had posted the bounty, but the client would be notified to meet them after the mission was completed.
  • Lin En confirmed that the exchange was supposed to take place in the great cemetery.

Ch. 61The Headless Knight!

Lin En used the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich as bait to draw out the person who placed a bounty on Hana Ye. The person arrived as Headless Knight · Mordred, a powerful Crimson Secret Cult officer, and Lin En prepared to test his projection’s strength.

  • Lin En told Salgon to prepare to ambush whoever had placed the bounty on Hana Ye.
  • After more than two hours, Headless Knight · Mordred arrived at the Grand Graveyard, and Salgon recognized him as a powerful officer of the Crimson Secret Cult.
  • Salgon warned Lin En that Mordred was a formidable great lord and cautioned him not to release too much power from his frail vessel.
  • Lin En decided to use Mordred to test how much power his projection could unleash through the vessel.
  • Mordred asked the Evil Spirit Wizard where the person he wanted was, and Lin En instructed the wizard to demand the Spirit Coins first.

Ch. 62If You Can Make Me Go Berserk, I'll Count That as Your Win!

Lin En refused the headless knight’s offer to exchange Spirit Coins for Hana Ye and challenged him after surviving his attack. The headless knight recognized Lin En’s extraordinary Holy Flame and strength, while Lin En invited him to push his body to its limits.

  • Lin En accepted one-third of the Spirit Coins but told the Evil Spirit Wizard to invite the headless knight into the Tomb to retrieve Hana Ye himself.
  • The headless knight attacked the Tomb with his lance, and Lin En escaped aboveground with Hana Ye as the Tomb exploded.
  • Salgon emerged to defend Lin En, but Lin En ordered him to stand down and questioned the headless knight about the bounty on Hana Ye.
  • The headless knight charged Lin En, who stopped his lance with both hands without stepping back.
  • Lin En dropped Hana Ye and challenged the headless knight to make him go berserk, saying he would count it as the knight’s win.

Ch. 63You're far too arrogant!

Lin En fought the Headless Knight in the Grand Graveyard, dodging his charges and healing from a severe wound while gradually learning his attack patterns. The Knight revealed that he had been buying time to summon a Mutated Blood Demon from the Third Layer, which then attacked Lin En.

  • The Headless Knight charged Lin En, wounded his chest, and watched as Lin En quickly healed.
  • Lin En praised the Knight’s speed and experience, then challenged him to show his full strength.
  • The Headless Knight used the Flight Sequence to attack Lin En repeatedly from the air, but Lin En dodged and adapted to his movements.
  • The Knight stopped attacking and revealed that he had been using their fight to buy time for a [Summon].
  • A gigantic Mutated Blood Demon appeared above the Grand Graveyard, and its flesh spikes thundered toward Lin En.

Ch. 64This move! It killed me thirty thousand times!

Lin En emerged from the dust after devouring the Headless Knight’s summoned Blood Demon and challenged the knight with a Holy Flame blade. Meanwhile, an archbishop in the Second Layer sensed the Valkyrie’s presence and flew toward the blood-red mist.

  • Salgon rescued Hana Ye from the Headless Knight’s attack as the summoned Blood Demon’s flesh spikes battered the area.
  • The Blood Demon trembled, then was dragged into the dust by Lin En’s black tentacles and devoured, severing the Headless Knight’s connection to it.
  • Lin En emerged under the Holy Flame, admitted the knight’s summon had forced his rampage, and declared that the knight would still die.
  • The Headless Knight charged Lin En, who formed a gigantic Holy Flame blade and said he had secretly learned the Valkyrie’s move that had killed him 15,321 times.
  • An archbishop in the Second Layer sensed a trace of the Valkyrie’s presence in the blood-red mist and flew toward it.

Ch. 65She might be some kind of Vessel!

Lin En forced the Headless Knight to reveal that the Secret Cult had arranged Hana Ye’s abduction because she might be a [Vessel], but the knight was killed by a hidden mechanism before he could explain further. Lin En rescued Hana Ye and asked Salgon what the term could mean.

  • Lin En defeated the Headless Knight and claimed to be the Valkyrie’s master, then burned him until he confessed that the Secret Cult had ordered Hana Ye’s abduction.
  • The Headless Knight said the cult wanted to bring Hana Ye to the Spirit Realm discreetly and reported that a bishop had called her a [Vessel].
  • An unseen force caused the Headless Knight to explode before Lin En could question him further.
  • Lin En freed Hana Ye and questioned her about being a [Vessel], while she protested that she had no idea what the cult wanted from her.
  • Salgon explained that a [Vessel] could serve as a body for a higher being’s descent or for a dead soul’s return.

Ch. 66Never seen someone comfort his wife?

Lin En realized Hana Ye was genuinely overwhelmed by the day’s horrors and comforted her after she broke down over his teasing threat to abandon her. The attempt ended with Hana Ye fainting at his monstrous funny face, then clinging to him after waking, while Salgon and the others remained shocked by the demon’s affection.

  • Lin En questioned Hana Ye about leaving her behind or handing her over, and she began crying that she was useless and a burden.
  • Lin En held Hana Ye, apologized for frightening her, and promised he would not abandon her.
  • Lin En tried to cheer Hana Ye with a silly face, then transformed his face into a monstrous visage that made her faint.
  • Hana Ye woke up and clung to Lin En, privately accepting his comfort while insisting she was not doing so because she liked it.
  • Salgon and the others stared at Lin En comforting his wife, so Lin En snapped at them and they dropped to their knees in apology.

Ch. 67The Founding of the Greatest Power in History!

After rescuing Hana Ye, Lin En approved Salgon’s proposal to build a powerful organization loyal to him and appointed Salgon to lead it. Two undead Liches then asked to join, and Lin En said they might be allowed.

  • Lin En asked Salgon about the Crimson Secret Cult’s headquarters, but Salgon explained that its members were kept from knowing the location until gatherings began.
  • Salgon proposed creating a force in the Spirit Realm devoted to Lin En and pledged to establish a Divine Cult for him.
  • Lin En decided that an organization could handle threats and gather emotional fragments, then authorized Salgon to establish it and act as his representative.
  • Salgon accepted Lin En’s command with intense devotion, reaching his limit for emotional fragments from Lin En.
  • The Evil Spirit Wizard asked whether he and the Lich could join, and Lin En said it was possible despite Salgon calling them trash.

Ch. 68Seven-sequence Origin Substance!

Lin En recruited the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich in exchange for their savings, then set them to work making money under Salgon’s supervision. After counting his spoils and inspecting the Headless Knight’s seven-sequence origin substance, Lin En asked Salgon how to return to the real world.

  • Lin En welcomed the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich into his faction after learning they had roughly fifty thousand in savings.
  • Salgon threatened the pair, bound them with talismans and a Deathbone Mark, and ordered them to make money for Lin En.
  • Salgon sent the Evil Spirit Wizard and the Lich away, then told Lin En he would monitor them and remain at his side.
  • Lin En counted his haul, including 63,100 Spirit Coins, and lamented the Headless Knight’s destroyed valuables.
  • Lin En examined the Headless Knight Mordred’s tier-two origin substance, which had seven sequences, four of them negative.
  • Lin En asked Salgon how he could return to the real world.

Ch. 69Someone Is Following Us!

Lin En learned how rifts and the Red Moon allowed Evil Spirits to travel between the Spirit Realm and reality, then set out with Salgon to find a rift. On the way, Lin En sensed a follower, and a golden figure dropped from the blood mist.

  • Salgon explained that ordinary Evil Spirits could use rifts to reach higher Spirit Realm layers, while powerful beings faced severe restrictions when entering reality.
  • Salgon described how the Red Moon weakened reality’s veil and could let deep-layer abominations invade, though the Great Sun quickly ended such opportunities.
  • Lin En agreed to follow Salgon to his old territory to search for a rift, despite Salgon’s uncertain assurance that Lin En’s Vessel could withstand the crossing.
  • After they traveled across the wasteland for about a dozen minutes, Lin En sensed that someone was following them.
  • Lin En called out to the unknown follower, and a golden figure plunged from the blood mist above, forcing Salgon to brace himself with his scythe.

Ch. 70The Armored Angel, Ophiel!

Lin En met Ophiel, an armored Divine Attendant who had followed the aura of his Holy Flame, and learned she was Hana Ye’s Auntie Yan. Ophiel remained suspicious of Lin En’s connection to her god as he claimed to be an ordinary ability user.

  • Ophiel appeared before Lin En and Salgon, and Salgon identified her as the Armored Angel and one of the Valkyrie’s Seven Divine Attendants.
  • Salgon tried to cover Lin En’s escape, but Lin En knocked him down and questioned Ophiel about following him.
  • Ophiel lowered her armor and apologized, and Hana Ye recognized her as Auntie Yan, her eldest aunt’s teacher.
  • Ophiel questioned why Hana Ye was in the Spirit Realm and why Lin En’s Holy Flame carried her god’s aura.
  • Lin En realized the Valkyrie’s Origin Substance had attracted Ophiel and asked whether she would believe he was an ordinary ability user.

Ch. 71I'll lay my cards on the table! I'm the Valkyrie's chosen!

Lin En convinced Ophiel that he was chosen by the Valkyrie, revealing her true name and claiming he had been sent to investigate the Holy Church. He warned that a demon had breached the Warp and that the Valkyrie's power was waning, leaving Ophiel shaken and under scrutiny.

  • Ophiel suspected Lin En was the Valkyrie's chosen because his Holy Flame had unusual purity, and Lin En encouraged her to believe it.
  • Lin En recited the Valkyrie's secret true name, Shinsen Saya, prompting Ophiel to kneel and apologize for doubting him.
  • Lin En claimed the Valkyrie had awakened his Holy Flame and sent him to investigate abnormalities in the city.
  • Ophiel explained that the Nine Chimes had sounded and the Great Sun had appeared smaller; Lin En said a demon had breached the Warp and that he had pursued it.
  • Lin En confirmed he had encountered the demon during the Reality Collapse in South City but had failed to subdue it.
  • Lin En told Ophiel that the Holy Church was rotten within and that he had been tasked with monitoring its members and reporting any corruption to the Valkyrie.

Ch. 72Cry, Cry-It's No Sin!

Lin En made Ophiel confess her failures and regrets, then comforted her by claiming the Valkyrie forgave her. Ophiel broke down in his arms, while Shinsen Saya sensed something unsettling from afar.

  • Lin En challenged Ophiel to consider whether the Church had become corrupt and whether her own conscience was clear.
  • Ophiel confessed that her negligence had allowed a great demon to invade Clockwork City, that she had made agreements with Spirit Realm powers, and that she had failed to avenge a student.
  • Ophiel admitted she had been afraid to pursue the demon into the Spirit Realm because Clockwork City needed her, and she wept over falling short of the Valkyrie's example.
  • Lin En comforted Ophiel and claimed the Valkyrie understood and forgave her, while Salgon watched in awe and took notes.
  • Ophiel clung to Lin En and confessed her feelings as he promised to convey her repentance to the Valkyrie.
  • Shinsen Saya sneezed in a dark room and felt as if someone had lured away her children.

Ch. 73Lin En! Director of the Grand Tribunal Office!

Ophiel returned to camp and announced that Lin En was the Valkyrie's Divine Chosen, granting him authority to oversee the Church. Lin En admitted to Hana Ye that he had been bluffing, then continued with Salgon toward the rift to the first level.

  • Ophiel ordered the clergy to meet strict standards and warned that Lin En, appointed as the Valkyrie's Divine Chosen, would oversee the Church.
  • Salgon marveled at Lin En becoming director of a Tribunal Office empowered to investigate the Church, and Lin En punched him for repeating himself.
  • Hana Ye asked whether Lin En was truly the Valkyrie's Divine Chosen, and Lin En told her he had been bluffing and scolded her for not letting Ophiel take her back to the real world.
  • Lin En reasoned that his new identity and Ophiel's endorsement would help him move through human society and give him leverage over the Valkyrie.
  • Salgon announced that his former territory and the rift leading to the first level were close, and offered to guide Lin En there.

Ch. 74The Skeleton's Divination!

Lin En and Hana Ye followed Salgon into his strange territory in the Spirit Realm, where a drunken skeleton foretold their fates. The skeleton said Hana Ye’s fate was “Loneliness,” but recoiled from reading Lin En’s fortune, leaving the characters “Stars” scattered in Spirit Coins.

  • Salgon explained that his territory was a street in the Spirit Realm called Get Lost and Die Street, and led Lin En and Hana Ye toward his lord’s hall.
  • Hana Ye tripped over a skeleton, screamed, and hid in Lin En’s robe while Salgon stomped on the skeleton for frightening her.
  • The skeleton predicted that Salgon and his skeletons would die soon, said Lin En would be fine, and warned that Hana Ye might be better off dead.
  • Lin En paid the skeleton to read Hana Ye’s fortune, and the skeleton wrote “Loneliness” and told her to look ahead instead of up.
  • After Lin En paid far more for his own fortune, the skeleton cracked his skull, returned the coins, and refused to read it; Hana Ye saw that the coins formed the word “Stars.”

Ch. 75A ninth-tier origin substance drop!

Lin En discovered that a fortune-telling skeleton had left behind a ninth-tier origin substance and had foretold that Lin En would become a star. The skeleton vanished completely, leaving its identity and past a mystery.

  • Hana Ye told Lin En that she had never seen stars, making him question whether her world had any.
  • Lin En shook the skeleton, which collapsed and warned that Lin En would become a star and bring calamity before dissolving into sand.
  • A ninth-tier origin substance with the sequence [Omen] appeared where the skeleton had vanished.
  • Salgon revealed that he had called the skeleton Old Bones or Old Fraud and had never learned its real name.
  • Salgon recalled that the skeleton had once said its fortunes described people's fates a thousand years in the future.
  • Lin En told Salgon that the skeleton had predicted he would someday become a star in the sky.
