After arriving in Los Angeles, Bai Yaoyao quickly stored the RVs Monkey had prepared in her space, then planned to take him back to Huaguo with her.
"Come on, Sister Yao, you're so badass now. Come grab another haul with me!" Monkey said, his eyes gleaming.
"What kind of haul?" Bai Yaoyao asked.
"Remember those people who were hunting me a while ago? I found their headquarters, and they've stockpiled loads of antiques and gold. A lot of those antiques are from Huaguo, too.
"Let's take them back. We can't let those drug-dealing bastards keep them. I finally found a sweet car I liked and wanted to buy it through legitimate channels, but it turned out they'd put it up specifically to lure me in. If I hadn't been quick on my feet, I'd have been done for!" Monkey said, always eager to stir up trouble.
Bai Yaoyao was tempted. Gold was too expensive, so she really hadn't bought any.
Antiques in prosperous times, gold in troubled times, cultivation in the apocalypse. Stocking up wouldn't hurt. Besides, their ancestors' belongings deserved to be brought home. She could grab the car Monkey had his eye on while she was at it.
So she said, "Give me the location, then get your ass back to Huaguo. I'll go get them myself!"
Monkey immediately panicked. "Sister Yao, don't leave me out! I can distract them for you."
Bai Yaoyao loosened her wrists and ankles. "Want to spar?"
"Bye, Sister Yao!"
In less than ten seconds, Monkey had vanished from Bai Yaoyao's sight.
Bai Yaoyao smiled. Her brothers all had their little flaws, but there were certain lines they would never cross.
It didn't take Bai Yaoyao much effort to get the antiques and gold Monkey had mentioned.
The sight of so many beautiful antiques stirred her interest, and she took out her phone to look up some information online.
"Which countries hold most of the antiques lost from Huaguo?"
Then Bai Yaoyao traveled day and night through six countries: Y, F, R, M, D, and E.
Every time she left a country, news broke that its national museum had been robbed.
Returning things to their rightful owners wasn't going too far, was it?
Once again, Bai Yaoyao marveled at how incredible her spatial ability was. It was practically the ultimate tool for robbery! What a rush! So satisfying!
Bai Yaoyao thought that if the apocalypse ever ended, and Huaguo was willing to give her a proper job-one that didn't involve killing people, with the five social insurance plans and housing provident fund-she would hand over all these antiques.
Besides collecting antiques, her six-country tour had also replenished all sorts of supplies.
Never mind feeding herself and a few brothers; she could feed an entire base without a problem. That said, she had no intention of establishing one.
Bai Yaoyao only wanted to grow stronger, kill zombies, and end the apocalypse. Management didn't interest her, and she wouldn't team up with strangers.
Her brothers were enough.
All of a sudden, she really missed everyone.
Before returning to Huaguo, Bai Yaoyao kept urging everyone to hurry back and gather. She feared the apocalypse might come early, or that something might happen to one of them and delay them on the road, leaving them unable to reunite.
By coincidence, the day the apocalypse began in her previous life had been the anniversary of Master's death. Everyone had come back, so they had been together from the start. They trusted one another and worked well together, which was how they had gradually found their footing.
When Bai Yaoyao arrived in H City, Peiqi came to pick her up at the airport.
"My dear sister, I finally get to see you! Do you have any idea how much stuff you bought? I rented that whole row of warehouses, and even that was barely enough!" Peiqi couldn't help complaining the moment she saw Bai Yaoyao.
"I know. Come on, let's go straight to the warehouses." Bai Yaoyao didn't want to explain herself over and over, so she simply said nothing for now.
Sweet little Peiqi chattered nonstop the whole way. Bai Yaoyao listened with a smile, saying nothing. It felt wonderful to hear her little chatterbox talk.
Peiqi had died in the sixth year of the apocalypse. Counting it up, they hadn't seen each other in four years.
Once Bai Yaoyao put all the supplies into her space right in front of Peiqi, it was as though someone had pressed a stop button on Peiqi's mouth. Not another word came out.
Seeing Peiqi like that, Bai Yaoyao didn't dare let her drive, afraid she would steer them into a ditch.
Following the location Peiqi had given her, Bai Yaoyao drove west. The area grew noticeably more remote, with fewer and fewer people. Finding zombies to fight would be more troublesome, but safety came first. Besides, they had vehicles ready.
Bai Yaoyao didn't consider herself some chosen one who could look down on low-level zombies just because she had been reborn.
There was no harm in being careful. In this life, she hoped everyone could survive to the end.
The villa was well situated, neither too close to Phoenix Cry Mountain nor to the city. The city had plenty of zombies, while Phoenix Cry Mountain had plenty of mutated animals and plants.
As soon as she passed through the villa's gates, Bai Yaoyao knew Peiqi had done a reliable job. Calling those gates prison gates wouldn't have been an exaggeration.
The property had its own entrance and courtyard, with an additional two meters of electrified fencing atop the surrounding walls. The moment Bai Yaoyao got out of the car, a dark shape lunged at her. She instinctively moved to strike before finally realizing it was Doggo.
Doggo was a Siberian Husky-ahem, otherwise known as a Husky. Bai Yaoyao had named it Doggo.
Bai Yaoyao had picked it up on the road. Since her constant missions made keeping a dog inconvenient, she had dumped it on Peiqi.
Doggo gazed at Bai Yaoyao with mournful, reproachful eyes, as though trying to tell her something. It expressed its displeasure with constant whining and tantrums, rolling around on the ground.
Bai Yaoyao had never been particularly affectionate with Doggo. There was no reason; she simply didn't like keeping pets. Too troublesome, too much work.
When she first found the dog, she had thought it was quite good-looking. Having heard that this breed wasn't very bright, she had led it to the police station on her way.
Unexpectedly, the silly thing absolutely refused to leave her. Even two hard kicks wouldn't make it go. So Bai Yaoyao had picked it up and kept it for a while.
After it tore apart everything in her home, Bai Yaoyao reached the end of her patience and left it with Peiqi, only dropping by occasionally to see it.
Yet this very dog, whom she had never given much thought to, had taken a zombie's claw strike for her in her previous life. Having gone hungry for a long time, it hadn't survived. Instead of becoming a mutant beast, it had simply died.
Bai Yaoyao suddenly hugged Doggo, kissed it, and pulled it tightly into her arms. Doggo was completely bewildered, unable to understand its owner's sudden affection. It even forgot to protest and just froze there, looking utterly dumbfounded.
Bai Yaoyao laughed freely. This was wonderful.
"Sister Yao, you're finally back!" Xiaomi and the others came out of the house when they heard the noise.
Bai Yaoyao looked up.
Fat Brother, Xiaomi, Stone, Monkey, Dada Juan, A-Dai, Keke, Xiao Shiliu, and Peiqi beside her-these were the brothers who had stayed with her throughout her previous life.
And there were also...
Lulu and Chenxuan.
The two who had become zombies right at the beginning. She had asked Fat Brother to notify them to come as well. Although witnessing it again would be cruel, they were still her brothers. What if they didn't turn into zombies this time?
She had to see it with her own eyes before she could accept it.
Looking at the eleven people and one dog before her, Bai Yaoyao said, "From now on, we're no longer the Dark Night Killer Organization. We're the Dark Night Squad.
"We've changed professions."
