Bai Yaoyao hung up, went to the place Xiaomi had told her about, picked up the bombs, and put them into her spatial storage.
Then she began stockpiling supplies. She would pull off the job when she was ready to leave R Country. Otherwise, once the country went under martial law, she would not be able to shop properly.
Bai Yaoyao contacted Xiaomi again and rented a large warehouse.
She went over to scout it first. Only after confirming that it was secluded and had no surveillance cameras did she feel reassured.
On a Chinese expatriate forum, she found someone who worked in food wholesaling and arranged to meet that afternoon.
At noon, she picked a random roadside restaurant and ordered eel rice, a wagyu platter, matcha tofu, tempura, a sashimi rice bowl, and green plum wine.
Since her rebirth, her appetite had grown considerably. She did not know whether the portions here were small, but even after finishing all that food, she still wanted more.
So she ordered a fried pork cutlet with molten cheese filling, which finally hit the spot.
Bai Yaoyao thought the food tasted excellent. She took out her phone and opened the translator.
"Boss, I want 500 portions of every dish I just ate. How long would that take?" Bai Yaoyao asked.
"That much? It would have to be tomorrow. We don't have enough ingredients. We only use the freshest ingredients here," the owner replied.
"All right. I'll pick them up tomorrow evening. Just pack them in insulated boxes." Bai Yaoyao promptly paid a deposit.
After agreeing, the owner closed up without another word and went out to buy ingredients. This was a huge order!
After leaving the restaurant, Bai Yaoyao found the wholesaler from the Chinese expatriate forum. His name was Li Hua. She took a sip of water to moisten her throat, ready to negotiate the lowest possible price.
Every last cent was hard-earned. If she did not budget carefully, she would be doing a disservice to all the hardship she had endured over the years.
Whenever she thought about how all her money in her previous life had become nothing but a string of numbers after the apocalypse, her heart ached as though it were bleeding.
This time, she could prepare in advance. No matter what, she could not waste even a single yuan.
In the end, she secured 10,000 bags of Koshihikari Rice, 5,000 bags of Akita Rice, 5,000 bags of Nanatsuboshi Rice, and 5,000 bags of Dreamer rice at below-market wholesale prices.
She planned to buy some Wuchang Rice from Northeast China and rice from southern China after returning home. The guys could really eat, so she was afraid there would not be enough unless she stocked up generously. Even if they could not cook, they at least knew how to steam rice in a rice cooker.
Next came flour. According to Li Hua, R Country generally had two kinds: Weak Flour, used for things like bread and cakes, and Strong Flour, mainly used for things like steamed buns and dumplings.
Bai Yaoyao felt that flour from Huaguo was more reliable, so she ordered only 1,500 kilograms of each.
For olive oil, grapeseed oil, soybean oil, and corn oil, she could order at most 5,000 containers of each. They simply did not have that much stock, and even this amount had to be pooled from several wholesale markets.
The trouble was that Bai Yaoyao had never cooked and had no idea whether this would be enough. She planned to work it out carefully with Fat Brother when she got back and buy more in Huaguo if necessary.
Then came the various other food supplies, starting with salt and sugar.
Salt was easy. She simply bought out the wholesale market's entire stock: 22,000 cases, with 70 bags in each.
Salt had so many uses. It was not merely a seasoning; it could replenish electrolytes and disinfect things, and the human body needed it every day.
Sugar was harder to stockpile. It was a special, regulated commodity, and private individuals could not buy it in bulk. Even supermarkets and wholesale markets needed the proper qualifications to purchase it.
She bought only 1,000 cases through Li Hua, though each case contained 100 bags.
She also ordered 1,000 cases each of rock sugar and brown sugar.
Then she had Xiaomi buy another 4,000 kilograms of granulated white sugar on the Black Market.
Xiaomi was baffled and kept feeling that Sister Yao was planning something big without letting Xiaomi join in. Still, the boss had given the order, so Xiaomi obediently followed it.
R Country's seafood soy sauce was excellent and suited Bai Yaoyao's taste, so she ordered 2,000 cases.
She bought 1,000 cases of things like vinegar, light soy sauce, and cooking wine.
Bai Yaoyao really had no idea how much was needed for each meal, so she ordered what seemed reasonable. She and the guys would definitely have no time to cook most of the time anyway. Most of these supplies would be traded with the authorities for crystal cores.
In the apocalypse, strength mattered most. She did not want to waste time on creature comforts, either. Of course, if there was a chance to live a little better, all the better. None of them were masochists.
She would buy seasoning powders and the like after returning to Huaguo. Those were not essential for survival, so buying them would not deprive ordinary people of their chance to survive.
Next came the ready-to-eat products Bai Yaoyao needed most. R Country's food in this category was quite good, so she could stock up on more.
Bai Yaoyao checked the types of food currently available at the market and said, "Two thousand portions of charcoal-grilled yakitori, 8,000 bags of wagyu rolls, 3,000 boxes of rice balls in each flavor, 3,000 portions each of Lawson crab sticks and fried chicken, 3,000 each of FamilyMart chicken wraps and sandwiches, 2,000 boxes of sticky rice shumai, 2,000 bags of shrimp rice noodle rolls, 5,000 boxes of seaweed and egg drop soup, and 5,000 boxes of pork bone soup.
"Fifty thousand boxes of self-heating rice, 20,000 boxes of self-heating mini hot pot, 20,000 boxes of instant ramen and tonkotsu noodles, and 10,000 boxes of bento in each flavor."
Since these were what she and the guys would often eat in the future, she ordered more of them. They all had hearty appetites. Fat Brother, for instance, needed three boxes of self-heating rice before he could call it a meal.
Besides, during the early stages of the apocalypse, none of them would be proficient with their abilities yet. These things could save their lives. She would buy more here, and once she returned home, she would buy no other instant meals except braised beef noodles.
The braised beef noodles were purely a personal favorite.
"Um, all these things you're buying have very short shelf lives. Are you sure you want to stockpile so much?" Li Hua asked.
"Yes. Arrange the deliveries. I may be ordering a lot, but you have to guarantee the quality. No short weights or quantities, for one thing, and everything must have a recent production date. Otherwise, I won't pay the balance," Bai Yaoyao said bluntly.
"Don't worry. We're from the same country. I won't cheat you. I'll make plenty from this order, too. Once I've finished up, I'm heading home myself. I've been working abroad for so long, and I miss home terribly." Li Hua raised a hand and swore it.
Bai Yaoyao nodded. He seemed fairly sincere, so she said, "Going home is a good idea. What about snacks? Is there somewhere that wholesales all kinds?"
"Yes," Li Hua replied. "I'll drive you there. It's a little far. You'll need to pay a deposit for this order first. We'll deliver everything tomorrow morning, and you'll need to settle the balance then."
"No problem."
Next, Bai Yaoyao bought a mountain of snacks. After all, if she did not buy them now, she would never see them again once the apocalypse came. An entire country was about to be wiped out...
Hollow corn crisps, dorayaki, soy milk wafers, caramel toffee, Chunjiang Boneless Duck Feet, Japanese milk tea, milk pudding, ready-to-eat cheese crab sticks, cheese taiyaki, white peach jelly, charcoal-roasted coconut chips, Meiji fruit gummies, all kinds of yogurt drinks, sake, plum wine...
The more Bai Yaoyao bought, the more excited she became. This was bliss! Her mood was through the roof! If she had not wanted to save more money for bombs, she would have loved to browse some more. She had spent over five million on snacks alone, which made Sister Yao's heart ache a little. She had practically ordered everything she saw.
When the vendors heard someone was buying in bulk, they all hurried over to pitch their products. Sister Yao turned no one away. As long as the price was right, she bought it all.
Bai Yaoyao calmed herself down and left the snack wholesale market.
