Chen Luo was practicing Void Exile.
Only extensive practice would give him a deeper understanding of it.
Whenever he practiced, he kept a third of his esper energy in reserve for emergencies. He couldn't possibly exhaust it all.
No matter how little energy Void Walk used, it still had a minimum cost. Chen Luo couldn't find any way to reduce it further.
Void Exile's minimum cost was far higher than Void Walk's.
Chen Luo was practicing on inanimate objects, which cost far less energy than living things.

Rice was almost breathless with laughter. "Chen Luo, do you know what they're saying?"
Chen Luo looked sheepish. I admit I was wrong here. Getting that ball back probably won't be easy.
Rice mimicked them. "Godpa, Godpa, you're so mean!"

Chen Luo froze for a full seven or eight seconds before his cheeks began twitching uncontrollably.
Godpa?
I'm not! I didn't agree to that! Don't call me that!
Who taught them this?
Chen Luo looked toward Dharma King, who was practicing Electric Eyes in the Courtyard.
Have I been deducting too few Points, or too many?
Dharma King indicated that this dog was innocent.
Rice talked to the Puppies and finally identified Silver Wolf as the culprit.
Silver Wolf had taught them.
Chen Luo immediately confronted Silver Wolf.
Silver Wolf looked at Chen Luo haughtily, without the slightest fear.
"Awoo, awoo."
Rice translated, "She says, you and Dharma King are brothers. What's wrong with the pups calling you Godpa?"
So, in Silver Wolf's eyes,
