Background / History

Mi Li’s cat

Mi Li brought Rice home as a tiny kitten. After the apocalypse, Rice’s intelligence, agility, and awakened ability allowed her to gather supplies while Mi Li remained indoors. Mi Li depended on her for more than a week, but nearby supermarkets eventually emptied, making further trips increasingly dangerous 30 370.

Rice first encounters Chen Luo while he and Su Dazhu are checking on the sisters’ home. Although Mi Li is frightened of the strangers, Rice senses that Chen Luo means no harm—and that he has dried fish. Her insistence persuades Mi Li to accompany him on a supply run 30. Chen Luo has neither seen nor heard of Rice in his previous life and concludes that she probably died before he met the sisters in that timeline 30 74.

Joining Chen Luo’s household

Rice helps persuade Mi Li to visit Chen Luo’s home, where Ma Yu serves her steamed sea bass. She quickly becomes attached to Chen Luo, sleeps beside him, and receives crystals alongside his other companions 33 36. When Mi Ling returns, Rice refuses to be held because Mi Ling is dirty and might subsequently dirty Chen Luo. She later openly declares her loyalty to his group 38 41.

Her unusual perception makes her a priority for Chen Luo’s resources. After he saves Xu Mingqing from a predicted death, Rice collapses with blood at her mouth. Mi Li’s healing awakens her, and Rice explains that changing the fate of someone outside her personal “orbit” carries a dangerous cost 109 110.

Beyond Blue Star

On the planet reached after leaving Blue Star, Rice comforts a frightened Catfolk and recognizes the Catfolk as kin. Upon meeting their nearby community, she announces that the Meow-Meow Church’s leader has returned 467.

As Chen Luo and the others grow stronger, Rice increasingly supports them through fate rather than ordinary cultivation. She detects Violet’s karmic trap, identifies Mi Li as the likely key to overcoming it, and preserves the Vermilion Fruit for Mi Li’s advancement instead of eating it herself 487 494 513 514. Ningshuang’s ascension later enables Rice to create a training vortex for Chen Luo 569.

Godhood and relinquishing fate

Rice becomes the God of Fate after Dharma King, Chen Luo, Ningshuang, Mi Ling, and Mi Li all attain godhood. During her ascension, her divine light reflects Brady’s attack and kills him. She then accelerates Chen Luo’s transformation by summoning the complete time laws and strips Violet of her karma laws 593.

The fate origin later judges Rice over deaths connected to her favoring Chen Luo. Its calm form acknowledges that the origin itself bears the greater fault, but its angry form nevertheless demands her power back 612. Rather than allow her unwanted power to force Chen Luo into a fight, Rice voluntarily relinquishes the fate laws. Chen Luo reassures her that his affection does not depend on her usefulness and carries her on his shoulders 613.

Rice is described as a beautiful cat with large blue eyes and pink paw pads. Her Level Ten transformation produces a girl with snow-white skin and sky-blue eyes, while leaving her feline ears and tail intact 32 231 324 369.

Rice is affectionate, playful, and strongly motivated by fish and cuddles. Her “Great Demon King” persona combines theatrical confidence with a tendency to hold grudges 300 327.

Despite her boasting, Rice fears pain, heights, and water. Advancement pain repeatedly discourages her from cultivating, while a flight more than two thousand meters above the ground leaves her terrified 231 247 327. Concern for others can overcome that reluctance: she accepts backlash to protect Old Five and eventually becomes more eager to strengthen herself after recognizing that foreknowledge alone cannot change every outcome 337 351.
