Chen Luo parked outside an upscale residential complex not far from his home.
As he stroked Dharma King's now silky fur, Chen Luo quietly watched the entrance.
Chen Luo was waiting for someone important.
Just as boredom was getting the better of him, his eyes suddenly lit up.
Two beautiful women walked out of the complex.
The older one looked to be in her early twenties, around Chen Luo's age.
The younger one looked seventeen or eighteen.
They looked like sisters, and sisters they were.
The elder sister had a cool, stunning face. She was a beauty rarely seen.
The younger sister was youthful and lovely, no less beautiful than her sister. Her delicate, sweet appearance made people instinctively want to cherish her.
A little heat stirred in Chen Luo's heart. What man wouldn't desire a beautiful woman?
Who wouldn't like beauties like these?
Unless something was wrong with them, either mentally or physically.
If looks were all they had, Chen Luo wouldn't have had the time to wait here just for them.
These sisters had far more going for them than beauty.
The elder sister was Mi Ling, and the younger was Mi Li.
After the apocalypse, Mi Ling gained control over a fire ability. She was immensely powerful, the strongest fire ability user Chen Luo knew of, and the Scarlet Rose, Flame Empress, whom he had mentioned before.
With "Ling" in her name and flames under her control, people called her Flame Empress.
Mi Ling also had another nickname, Scarlet Rose. Roses had thorns and weren't easy to touch; the scarlet part described her fiery temper.
But her temper wasn't the only thing that was explosive. Her figure was, too.
In Chen Luo's eyes, her younger sister Mi Li was even more extraordinary.
Mi Li had little combat ability because hers wasn't a combat class. She was a healer, a support class.
He had heard that she could use resurrection in the later stages.
Damn, who could resist that?
That was a godlike ability. If he absolutely had to choose between Mi Ling and Mi Li...
Pah, only kids choose.
He had to recruit both sisters, no matter what. Not now, of course. Wouldn't foolishly approaching them make him nothing but a desperate simp?
Chen Luo took out his phone and called Wang Ming, a private investigator he had worked with before.
"I'll give you three days. I want information on them, especially what they like to eat."
Whatever you like eating, that's what I'll stockpile.
To win a woman's heart, he first had to win over her stomach.
Wang Ming readily agreed. For a professional like him, a task like this couldn't have been easier.
Watching Mi Li swing Mi Ling's arm as she wheedled and Mi Ling smile affectionately at her, Chen Luo gave a soft chuckle. As the sisters gradually walked away, he left as well.
It didn't take three days. By the following afternoon, Wang Ming had sent Chen Luo the information on Mi Ling and Mi Li.
Mi Ling liked Sichuan cuisine, and her favorite fruit was grapes.
Mi Li liked fish, but her absolute favorite was braised pig's trotters. Her favorite fruit was watermelon.
Chen Luo felt as though he'd suddenly woken up. Braised dishes taste pretty good, too. I need to stockpile some.
Before he knew it, May 28 had arrived. There were five days left until the apocalypse.
The armor and stun batons Chen Luo had ordered arrived one after another.
The armor was silver all over, with full-body coverage. There were two suits in total, one for Chen Luo and one for Su Dazhu.
The armor was heavy. Even Chen Luo's relatively smaller suit weighed twenty-two and a half kilograms. Wearing it took some stamina, but the protection made up for that.
Chen Luo had also considered mascot costumes or combat suits, but mascot costumes were even less convenient to wear than armor. They were far too bulky.
Low-grade combat suits were of little use, and Chen Luo had no way to obtain high-grade ones.
Neither offered anything close to the armor's protection.
Over the next few days, Chen Luo kept getting used to wearing the armor.
Chen Luo had commissioned a security company to buy the stun batons. By the time they reached him, they cost forty thousand yuan apiece.
Their high-voltage discharge could knock someone unconscious instantly. A few seconds of electrocution could kill.
There were fifty in total. Carrying them would be inconvenient for anyone else, but Chen Luo had his ability space. By cycling through them, he could easily electrocute several hundred zombies to death in one go.
Chen Luo also bought a thirteen-meter heavy truck and parked it near the cold-storage warehouse.
On the evening of June 2, Chen Luo transferred all his remaining stockpiled supplies into his ability space, apart from the meat in cold storage.
Even if someone notices the supplies have magically vanished, they're mine. If I'm not complaining, what have you got to complain about?
The apocalypse would break out tomorrow.
That night, Chen Luo tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Now that I've been reborn, this goddamn apocalypse isn't going to skip coming, is it?
If it doesn't come, I'll take a massive loss on all those supplies.
Actually, maybe it shouldn't come. Let me take the hit for the good of all humanity.
Even with that massive loss, I'd still be rich. Wouldn't it be better to live out my life in comfort in a peaceful, prosperous world? Why would I want to go through that utterly inhuman apocalypse?
The next morning, Chen Luo woke early, his feelings complicated. The apocalypse would begin at around 9:20 a.m.
At eight in the morning, Chen Luo, who knew Chen Jian'an's habits well, knew that his uncle wouldn't arrive at the company until nine. He was probably eating breakfast right now.
Chen Luo took out his phone and called Chen Jian'an.
"Uncle, there's something I'd like your help with," Chen Luo said respectfully.
"You're my nephew. If I can help, of course I will," Chen Jian'an said with false sincerity.
Chen Luo smiled. "Here's the thing. I urgently need some money, but as you know, I spent all mine stockpiling pork. I'd like to put up all my supplies as collateral with you. They're worth a billion yuan, but I only want to borrow five hundred million."
"Even brothers should keep their accounts straight. Uncle, let's sign an agreement. I'll only borrow it for a month, and I'll repay you six hundred million when it's due. If I can't pay you back then, all the supplies will go to you to settle the debt."
"Why do you need so much money so urgently?" Chen Jian'an asked, puzzled.
Chen Luo made something up. "From what I've observed, cryptocurrency is about to soar. It could go up eight or ten times. Five hundred million could turn into five billion. Uncle, if you trust me, you should invest with me."
Chen Jian'an scoffed inwardly. Trust you? Like hell I do. I'd be afraid of losing my entire nest egg. You actually dare to dabble in that stuff?
But Chen Jian'an didn't refuse. He quickly weighed it up. Whether Chen Luo made money or lost it, he wouldn't lose anything himself.
And Chen Luo would most likely lose even the shirt off his back. Then he could trade five hundred million for a billion yuan's worth of supplies.
Although Chen Jian'an didn't think much of Chen Luo's decision to stockpile supplies, surely he could liquidate a billion yuan's worth of goods for eight hundred million?
This was a deal worth making.
Chen Jian'an sneered. Don't blame me for turning my back on you when you lose.
Chen Luo continued, "Uncle, wait for me at home. I'll come over now so we can discuss it in person. I miss Fei, too. Have him join us."
Chen Jian'an agreed at once. Something this important couldn't be discussed solely over the phone, and he couldn't lend out money so casually either. He needed to investigate first.
After hanging up, Chen Luo's expression turned cold. As promised, you'll die on the day the apocalypse begins.
Before you continue
