Background / History

Before the apocalypse, Su Dazhu was a military veteran working as a security guard in Chen Luo’s luxurious villa community. The two had known each other for over a year, but were only acquaintances before Chen Luo’s return to the past. Su Dazhu appreciated that Chen Luo treated him politely rather than looking down on him as a guard 4 7 18.

In the previous timeline, Su Dazhu survived the initial outbreak by climbing into an outlying villa. He and Chen Luo became partners after meeting at the community supermarket while searching for food, more than a month after the apocalypse began. Su Dazhu did not initially know about zombie crystals, losing an important early opportunity to develop his ability 14.

Their partnership became a close brotherhood. Su Dazhu frequently gave up food for Chen Luo despite the enormous appetite associated with his physical ability. When a group cornered them over supplies, he held off the attackers so Chen Luo could escape and was beaten to death. Chen Luo later avenged him, but his death became a central reason for Chen Luo’s determination to protect him in the new timeline 4 18.

Appearance

Su Dazhu is tall and imposing, with an honest-looking face that can make him appear less perceptive than he actually is 4 18.

Personality

Su Dazhu is guileless rather than unintelligent. He does not instinctively suspect others, and his kindness initially leaves him vulnerable to exploitation. Even after discovering that Chen Jing concealed food from him, he hesitates to take what he believes is the only remaining protection from zombies because doing so would leave her to die 7 16.

He is loyal, practical, and unwilling to live entirely on someone else’s efforts. He wants to contribute to supply runs, suggests rationing Chen Luo’s extravagant meals, and takes the secrecy of their stockpile seriously. Betrayal particularly angers him: after learning that Ma Yu’s fellow survivors tried to sacrifice her despite her help, he personally strikes each of them 17 19 21 27.

Abilities & Skills

Physical Enhancement

Su Dazhu’s strength-oriented ability reinforces his body rather than producing elemental attacks. Advancing increases his strength and bodily resilience without requiring him to learn separate supernatural techniques 17 23.

• Enhanced strength: At Level Two, he can smash an ordinary zombie’s head with one swing of a solid iron rod 24 31.
• Enhanced vitality and durability: By the hotel expedition, ordinary zombies can no longer hurt him. In the previous timeline, his developed body was described as virtually indestructible and resistant to blades and bullets 4 24.
• High food requirements: Physical enhancement greatly increases his appetite. Eight dishes are insufficient to fill him during his reunion meal; he needs an additional large platter of braised chicken 15 18.
• Limits: His defenses do not make him invulnerable. Chen Luo’s spatial blade remains capable of cutting him down, and a sufficiently agile opponent such as Dharma King could wear him down by maintaining distance 24.

Close-Quarters Combat

His military background gives him substantial fighting ability even before awakening. Chen Luo estimates that five copies of his own pre-awakening self would still be no match for Su Dazhu 7.

• Remains composed after the Mutant Rat King knocks him down, pressing his stun baton against it rather than panicking 20.
• Clears the remaining rat swarm while Chen Luo is exhausted from using the Void Sword 21.

Crystal Absorption

Su Dazhu strengthens himself by absorbing energy from zombie crystals, a method introduced to him by Chen Luo 18.

• His first reported session consists of seven crystals, which Chen Luo considers a good result 19.
• He can extract crystals himself, though handling bloody heads initially makes him uncomfortable. During the hotel expedition, Chen Luo works at least three times faster 25.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

• Protective armor — Supplied by Chen Luo before the grain-depot expedition. Su Dazhu’s strength makes its weight comparable to ordinary winter clothing, but the Rat King’s teeth split its neck protection 19 20 21.
• Stun batons — Initially receives two. Effective against ordinary zombies and mutated rats, but insufficient to quickly stop the Rat King; battery capacity limits prolonged use 19 20 21.
• Solid iron rod — Becomes his preferred weapon after reaching Level Two, when his physical strength makes it more lethal than a stun baton 24.
• 512 GB phone and earphones — Given by Chen Luo for offline games and movies during their overnight stay in the truck 21.

Relationships

• Chen Luo — Closest friend and sworn brother. Su Dazhu accepts him as an older brother after Chen Luo invites him to do so; Chen Luo provides food, equipment, and early crystal training to prevent a repeat of his previous death 4 18.
• Chen Jing — A survivor he risks his life to rescue. In the previous timeline, she exploits his generosity, uses him to test potentially unsafe water, and eventually steals the pair’s supplies while they are injured 14 16.
• Dharma King — Combat partner. Su Dazhu initially feels outshone by the dog’s abilities, but the two later coordinate effectively against human attackers 19 45.
• Ma Yu — Fellow group member whom he helps rescue. Her betrayal by the hotel survivors provokes his anger; afterward, her cooking supports the household and his considerable appetite 26 27 28.
• Mi Li — Support-oriented teammate who strengthens him with buffs. He lends her his iron rod for her first zombie fight and receives both Strength Amplification and Defense Amplification before confronting Zhang Qin’s group 30 31 45.
• Fang Yu — A survivor whose loyalty Su Dazhu admires. He volunteers to assist Fang Yu and helps support his injured companions after Dharma King clears the pursuing zombies 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Reunion and Chen Jing’s Exposure

• Chen Luo warns Su Dazhu to be careful after nine on the morning of the outbreak, then searches the villa community for him rather than waiting for their previous timeline’s chance meeting 7 14.
• Su Dazhu joins Chen Luo’s household alongside Chen Jing. Discovering her hidden snacks makes him hostile toward her, while her seizure of the supposed protective garlic juice exposes her willingness to abandon him 14 16.
• After Chen Jing’s death, Chen Luo celebrates their reunion with a meal and begins teaching Su Dazhu to strengthen himself through crystals 17 18.

Grain-Depot Expedition

• Su Dazhu accompanies Chen Luo to collect staple foods and gain combat experience 19.
• The Mutant Rat King nearly breaches his armor at the neck before Chen Luo decapitates it with the Void Sword. Su Dazhu then clears the remaining rats and removes the Rat King’s valuable incisors 20 21.
• Their victory allows Chen Luo to store an estimated 60,000 metric tons of rice and 20,000 metric tons of flour. Su Dazhu promises to keep the stockpile secret 21.

Rescue Missions and Group Defense

• Helps gather over three hundred zombie crystals during the hotel expedition, finishes the zombies attacking Ma Yu, and guards the doorway against further waves 25 26.
• Fights alongside Chen Luo during the mall supply run with Mi Li, helping clear its upper floors 31 33.
• At Mi Li’s apartment building, he and Dharma King intercept Zhang Qin and five armed accomplices before they enter the stairwell, killing all six 44 45.
