In Dorm 515, Wang Dachui and Shen Qiao joined the team. Only Li Haoyang was in a bad mood, still grieving alone under his covers.
Luo Ye and Su Baizhou carried the team together, absolutely crushing the opposition.
Early the next morning, there were no classes.
Luo Ye got up and washed as quickly as he could.
He glanced at Li Haoyang's window and found that the guy still had himself buried under his covers.
Coach, who used to be the first one up for a morning run every day, had actually let himself go today.
Luo Ye said nothing and headed for the track.
When Luo Ye arrived at the track, he looked around but saw no sign of Fairy Senior.
Strange. Had Fairy Senior not come today?
Just then, Su Baizhou's voice came from behind him.
"What are you doing?"
Luo Ye turned and saw Fairy Senior.
As always, she wore loose black clothes and a black baseball cap, with her ponytail tied behind it.
So it wasn't that she wasn't coming. She simply hadn't arrived yet.
"What a coincidence, Senior! Are you here for a morning run too?" Luo Ye asked with an innocent expression.
"Yes, quite a coincidence."
Su Baizhou came up beside Luo Ye and said calmly, "Aren't you going to start? I'm not going easy on you this time."
"No need."
Luo Ye waved a hand and said readily, "Just run at your usual pace, Senior."
On their first morning run, Su Baizhou had stayed with Luo Ye and run only three laps.
This time, Luo Ye was determined to impress her.
They started running side by side around the track.
"Don't you have class?" Su Baizhou asked softly as they ran.
"One in the morning and one in the afternoon. What about you, Senior?"
"I only have six classes a week."
Luo Ye looked envious at that.
Being a third-year was great. So few classes.
"Oh, right, Senior. Has the Student Union finished changing its leadership?" Luo Ye suddenly asked.
"Not yet."
Su Baizhou's expression remained impassive.
She didn't like chatting while running, but when the younger student beside her asked her something, she didn't want to leave him unanswered.
As they talked, though, she realized it wasn't that she disliked chatting while running. She had simply never had anyone to run with.
Especially when that person was Luo Ye, she could even grow to enjoy talking during a run.
Before long, they had finished three laps.
On his first morning run, Luo Ye had been gasping for breath by this point, so exhausted he had practically been ready to let his tongue hang out.
Now, roughly half a month later, he was only slightly out of breath.
It wasn't that he had been incapable of running before, either. He simply hadn't exercised in too long, and running that much right away had taken some getting used to.
After six laps, Luo Ye sat on the grass beside the track, sweat streaming down him.
Autumn was approaching, and the weather was cooling, especially in the early morning.
A cool breeze blew over Luo Ye, making him shiver.
Seeing that, Su Baizhou took a towel out of her bag and handed it to Luo Ye.
"Thanks, Senior."
Luo Ye took the towel and began wiping off his sweat.
The towel carried a fragrance unique to Su Baizhou, one Luo Ye had also smelled in the bathroom of the faculty housing apartment.
So this was a towel she used regularly?
"You can keep it. Remember to bring it on your next morning run, or you might catch a chill."
"What about you, Senior?"
"I'll buy a new one."
With that, Su Baizhou turned to leave.
Seeing Luo Ye still sitting dazedly on the grass, she turned back and asked softly, "Aren't you having breakfast?"
"Yes, yes, yes."
After three quick yeses, Luo Ye sprang straight to his feet.
But he got up too fast. His vision went black, and he nearly fell.
Anyone who had experienced it knew: after sitting on the ground following exercise, that sudden moment of standing could leave your head spinning.
Still, Luo Ye quickly steadied himself, cleared his throat, and said as though nothing had happened, "Let's go, Senior."
Watching the silly boy's ridiculous display, Su Baizhou smiled inwardly, then continued walking.
They walked side by side along the campus road.
Not long ago, Luo Ye wouldn't even have dared imagine a scene like this.
Su Baizhou had never imagined that she would one day walk side by side with a boy to a campus canteen, either.
It was ten past eight, and the first class began at eight thirty.
Plenty of students were already hurrying to class, and there were quite a few people having breakfast in the canteen too.
This time, Su Baizhou went to the Third Canteen, right beside the Women's Dormitory.
The moment they entered the canteen, Luo Ye slowed down, following some distance behind her.
He was afraid people might misunderstand his relationship with her.
Su Baizhou walked ahead. Few people knew she had a habit of running in the morning, and few could recognize her.
After all, her loose black clothes hid her figure, and she was wearing a baseball cap.
Unless someone looked straight at her face... but college students who ate breakfast every day were generally disciplined people. Who would have nothing better to do first thing in the morning than stare at someone else's face?
Besides, even if someone did recognize her, Su Baizhou didn't care at all.
She glanced back and found Luo Ye trailing four or five meters behind her.
"What are you doing?" she asked softly.
"Senior, there are a lot of people. I have social anxiety..." Luo Ye scratched his head sheepishly.
"You have social anxiety?"
Looking unconvinced, Su Baizhou found an empty seat, propped her chin on her hand, and simply stared at Luo Ye.
Luo Ye stood in front of the table, puzzled for a moment, before quickly catching on.
Got it. She wanted him to buy breakfast.
Luo Ye recalled the breakfast Fairy Senior had brought over at the faculty housing apartment. That must have been her daily breakfast staple.
Attention to detail. It was all about attention to detail.
Luo Ye thought he was incredibly clever. What a little genius he was.
He ran to the counter, bought two eggs, two fried dough sticks, and two flaky flatbread wraps, then brought them to the table.
Su Baizhou frowned at the food on the table.
Are you sure you bought the same things we had at the faculty housing apartment?
But seeing Luo Ye's expression practically begging for praise, Su Baizhou couldn't bear to point out his mistake. She only said, "All right. We'll stick with this from now on."
From that moment on, Su Baizhou's daily breakfast changed.
Previously, she had eaten only those few things.
There wasn't any special reason. She simply struggled to make choices and never knew what to eat in the morning, so she had settled on a fixed selection that she could buy every day.
Now, however, her breakfast had a new standard.
Whatever Luo Ye bought, she would eat.
Was this what it felt like not to have to think?
Su Baizhou was beginning to understand why so many people got into relationships.
Someone looked after you, and you didn't have to think. When a problem came up, you didn't necessarily have to solve it yourself. You could ask your other half for help without feeling the slightest bit guilty.
Looking at the young man before her, Su Baizhou suddenly felt her heart beat a little faster.
At first, she had still been able to treat him like everyone else, maintaining a cold expression and an air that warned strangers to keep their distance.
Now, though, Luo Ye was like a little sun. She couldn't stay cold around him, nor could she bear to give him an icy look.
After eating, Su Baizhou prepared to return to her dorm and check on Qin Yuwen, that lonely old soul.
Luo Ye was also heading back to his dorm. Although he didn't have the first class today, his second class started at ten twenty, less than two hours away.
He wanted to catch up on some sleep first.
Luo Ye escorted Su Baizhou to the Women's Dormitory.
Standing on the steps outside the Women's Dormitory entrance, he watched Fairy Senior's figure gradually disappear from view.
Suddenly, a voice came from beside him.
"Luo Ye!"
Luo Ye turned to look but saw no one.
"I'm here!"
A petite girl stood below the steps, jumping up and waving both hands, trying to get Luo Ye to notice her.
