|---|---|---|
| Unborn Demon God — 94% formation | 1 | Exists as an immobile mass of yin-yang qi. The system estimates another three hundred years before his birth. |
| Fully formed Demon God | 1 | Uses the beginner package’s creation qi to emerge early. Gains a human body, divine authorities, Space Blink, Flight, and Yin-Yang Incarnation. He later retrospectively classifies his original strength as mid-rank Archon level 13. |
| Adeptal arts acquired | 3 | Learns additional arts from Liyue’s adepti while establishing his cave abode and seeking Morax’s guidance on controlling his power. |
| Recovered strength — tenfold increase | 7 | Awakens after a second five-hundred-year sleep. The system reports full recovery and a tenfold strength increase; Zhongli judges his strength approximately equal to his own. |
| Upper-rank Archon — self-assessment | 13 | Places himself and Zhongli in the upper rank. Notices that his power continues growing and connects this to his immunity to Erosion. |
| Lost essence reabsorbed | 33 | Absorbs an orb containing roughly half his strength from a thousand years earlier. The increase is small relative to his current power. |
| Essence separates; previous strength retained | 39 | The absorbed orb leaves his body and becomes a separate goddess. His strength returns to its pre-absorption level, but none of his authorities are lost. |
| Peak Upper-Rank Archon — system confirmation | 44 | The system formally identifies his rank. Its hierarchy is ordinary, lower-rank, middle-rank, upper-rank, and top-rank; it places Morax half a step from top-rank. |
Background / History
Transmigration and birth
Qiu Bai transmigrates into Teyvat after a sudden death associated with pulling characters in Genshin Impact. He initially has neither a mouth nor the ability to move, existing instead as a mass of naturally formed yin-yang qi. Binding to the Strongest Demon God in Teyvat System gives him access to a beginner gift package containing creation qi, which accelerates his birth 1.
After emerging, he tests his incarnations and restorative authority before discovering that he has arrived in ancient Liyue during the Guili Assembly’s evacuation to Liyue Harbor. Morax approaches him, recognizes the purity of his power, and agrees to a spar so that Qiu Bai can assess his new abilities 1.
Becoming Liyue’s adeptus lord
The spar establishes a substantial gap between them: Qiu Bai cracks Morax’s shield, but Morax’s stone spear drives him through two mountains. Morax ends the exchange before another attack can send him flying again 2.
Qiu Bai then sends his incarnations to help the evacuees. His yang incarnation restores the sick and exhausted, while his yin incarnation disperses the storm. A storyteller among the grateful survivors gives him the title Adeptus of Yin-Yang and the Two Principles 2.
At Jueyun Karst, Morax formally invites him to join Liyue’s adepti as an adeptus lord. Qiu Bai establishes a protected cave abode, befriends the adepti, and spends decades discussing Liyue’s development with Morax. The two descend together at the annual Rite of Descension to guide the nation’s planning 3.
Purification and prolonged slumber
Purifying Azhdaha’s black aura costs Qiu Bai a portion of his divine essence. Cloud Retainer carries the unconscious Qiu Bai back to his cave abode, following his earlier instruction that he should be sealed inside while asleep 5 33.
Five hundred years later, the system briefly awakens him during the catastrophe originating in Khaenri’ah. With less than one percent of his strength remaining and only two hours available, he stops a battle between adepti and great demons, helps save Qiqi, and identifies the demons’ hostility as the result of contamination from the Dark Sea 6.
After cleansing the demons and healing the injured adepti, he returns to sleep. Another five hundred years pass before he awakens fully restored and ten times stronger. During his absence, stories about him elevate his standing among Liyue’s people to nearly that of Rex Lapis 7.
Appearance
Qiu Bai’s original human form resembles a young man of eighteen or nineteen, despite his divine age 1.
- Height: Approximately 1.85 meters 1.
- Hair and eyes: Long, ink-black hair and pale blue eyes 1.
- Original clothing: Spotless black-and-white robes, with a glowing, Vision-sized yin-yang taiji emblem at his waist 1.
- Mortal disguise: A snow-white robe, cloud-patterned moon-white sash, black jade ornament, bamboo hairpin, silver ribbon, and a black-and-white landscape fan. He alters his face and conceals his aura to avoid recognition 7 37.
- Female form — Qiu Xue: Approximately 1.7 meters tall, with long black hair, pale blue eyes, a black-and-white dress and headband, exposed legs and bare feet. His voice becomes clear and bell-like 33.
Personality
Early Qiu Bai is irreverent, excitable, and openly attracted to the women he recognizes from the game. His confidence in his appearance contrasts with his private fear of being accidentally killed while sparring with Morax 1 2.
Decades of friendship with Morax make his public manner more restrained and refined. He adopts some of Morax’s speech habits, and Ningguang’s investigation describes him as humble, knowledgeable, and gentle. Nevertheless, he still enjoys teasing friends and showing off his abilities 8 15 25 40.
His concern for ordinary people repeatedly overrides factional disputes. He assists the Guili refugees without asking for recognition and makes Qiqi’s survival the immediate priority during the adepti–demon conflict. He later supports Liyue’s transition toward mortal leadership rather than insisting on continued divine rule 2 6 8.
Qiu Bai is also secretive and theatrical. He uses disguises, clones, and fabricated explanations to protect his identity. At the Golden House, he deliberately limits his strength and performs exaggerated injuries to satisfy a system quest, inadvertently causing Lumine and Paimon considerable distress 24 49 50.
Abilities & Skills
Yang Authority
Yang governs healing, purification, restoration, and resurrection 1 44.
- Restores burned grass from ashes and repairs scorched terrain 1 30.
- Heals groups of refugees and injured adepti; restores Xiangling’s and Guoba’s stamina 2 7 40.
- Suppresses Qiqi’s uncontrolled power, later repairing her mental faculties and strengthening her soul 6 23.
- Repairs Erosion, an ability Zhongli regards as extraordinary 38 44.
- Possesses resurrection authority and discusses bringing Guizhong back, though no completed resurrection of her is shown 38 44.
- At his original strength, restoring a Demon God on his own level would require several hundred years of subsequent sleep 1.
Yin Authority
Yin governs destruction, curses, communication with souls, and the destruction of souls 1 44.
- Disperses the clouds and ends the storm threatening the Guili refugees 2.
- Immobilizes three Rock Hilichurl Kings and dissolves them into black motes of light 30.
- Considers using a curse against one of the Doctor’s segments, adopting a vulnerable-looking female disguise to approach him 45.
Combined Yin-Yang Techniques
His combined energies support combat, sealing, and dealings with the dead 6 10 50.
- Forms swords and releases destructive black-and-white sword energy 2.
- Encases Qiqi in amber and adds a seal so that she can gradually adjust to her excessive power 6.
- Uses yin-yang qi and light drawn from a deceased girl to manifest the appearance of her grandmother 10.
- Creates an eight-trigram formation capable of blocking Childe’s enormous Hydro whale while deliberately restricting his own output 50.
Yin-Yang Incarnation
Qiu Bai separates yin and yang qi into two counterparts resembling himself 1.
- The yin incarnation wears black and has a cold expression; the yang incarnation wears white and has a gentle expression 1.
- Each initially possesses approximately half the original body’s strength 1.
- The incarnations can perform separate tasks simultaneously, as demonstrated during the Guili evacuation 2.
- He later presents a white-clad clone as the publicly recognizable adeptus lord while maintaining his Qiu Bai disguise in front of Baizhu 24.
Space Blink and Flight
Both abilities are listed among his innate divine powers 1 44.
- Flies freely and uses instantaneous teleportation to travel between his abode, Liyue Harbor, and other locations 1 7 33.
- Transports companions who hold onto him or his clothing, including Hu Tao, Qiu Yue, Xiangling, and Guoba 10 40 41.
Gender Transformation and Disguise
The combined authority of yin and yang allows him to transform into a woman, whom he names Qiu Xue 33 40 44.
- The transformation changes his appearance, voice, perceptions, and aspects of his personality 33.
- Remaining transformed makes his behavior increasingly feminine 34.
- He can separately alter his face, suppress his aura, and create illusory avatars to make Qiu Bai and Qiu Xue appear to be different people 17 37.
- He retains the ability to become Qiu Xue after Qiu Yue emerges as an independent goddess 39.
Divine Constitution and Perception
His divine body resists ordinary threats but is not free from every abnormality 38 39.
- Is immune to poisons and Erosion; his power continues to grow rather than declining through Erosion 13 38 39.
- Uses divine sense to examine Qiqi, locate Lumine, and detect familiar or dangerous presences 23 33 40.
- Stops Xiao’s spear with two fingers and contains the resulting shock wave to protect Wangshu Inn 22.
- Suffers severe headaches and bodily pain when the absorbed essence develops into Qiu Yue. Yang power suppresses the symptoms only temporarily 38 39.
Adeptal Arts and Knowledge
Qiu Bai studies with Liyue’s adepti and contributes practical ideas to the nation’s governance 3.
- Creates and decorates a cave abode protected by a barrier 3.
- Soundproofs his conversation with Zhongli when discussing the Heavenly Principles and Erosion 13.
- Advises Morax on Liyue’s development; Zhongli later recommends him as a consultant whose knowledge rivals or surpasses his own 3 8.
- Retains knowledge of Genshin Impact, including character identities and anticipated events, while observing how this Teyvat differs from the game 1 3 8 50.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Taiji Diagram of Two Principles — A glowing yin-yang emblem worn at his waist. It separates into corresponding halves on his incarnations and glows when he summons a sword 1 2.
- Divine-energy swords — Weapons formed directly from yin and yang qi; distinct from his later system-granted sword 2 44.
- Yin-Yang Chaos Sword — A ten-star weapon received from a system consolation package. Approximately three feet four inches long, it is formed from Teyvat’s yin-yang laws, changes with its wielder’s power, and can only be wielded by someone possessing the Yin-Yang Demon God’s divinity 44.
- Landscape fan and black jade ornament — Accessories used with his mortal disguise 7.
- Adeptal medicinal herbs — Rare herbs from Jueyun Karst that he sells to Baizhu when short of Mora 23.
Relationships
- Morax / Zhongli — Sparring partner, adviser, and closest confidant. They govern Liyue together for decades, and Qiu Bai supports Zhongli’s retirement plan 2 3 7 8.
- Cloud Retainer — Fellow adeptus who initially criticizes his frivolity, helps him establish his abode, and carries him home during his prolonged recovery. She finds his disguised appearance familiar even with his aura concealed 2 3 5 17.
- Ganyu — Fellow adeptus whom he meets during the Guili evacuation. She is bashful during their first encounter and later worries about his incomplete recovery 2 7.
- Marchosius / Guoba — An old divine friend. Marchosius vouches for his intentions during the evacuation; in the modern era, Qiu Bai recognizes Guoba but avoids revealing their shared past 2 3 41.
- Azhdaha — The recipient of his costly purification. Essence lost during that intervention eventually gives rise to Qiu Yue 33 39 40.
- Hu Tao — Employer and friend. She appoints him a Wangsheng Funeral Parlor consultant, takes him to Wuwang Hill, and comes to rely on his unusual yin-yang abilities 8 10 44.
- Qiqi — A child he helps save, seal, and later restore mentally. She recognizes him as the adeptus lord, calls him her big brother, and agrees to keep his identity secret 6 23 24.
- Madame Ping / Streetward Rambler — Fellow adeptus entrusted with teaching Qiqi to control her adeptal energy 24 25.
- Lumine and Paimon — Traveling companions and friends. His apparent injuries at the Golden House prompt them to search desperately for him and later believe that he may be dying 26 49 50.
- Ningguang — A mortal leader whose achievements he admires. He privately reveals his adeptal identity and approves of her actions while reserving judgment on Liyue as a whole 15 30.
- Qiu Yue — A goddess born from his lost essence who inherits memories associated with his female form. They choose to become siblings, and he arranges work and lodging for her at the funeral parlor 39 40 43.
- Tartaglia / Childe — A cordial acquaintance who shares wine with him and learns chopstick use from him. Their later Golden House battle is deliberately prolonged by Qiu Bai to complete a system quest 28 49 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Return to Modern Liyue

- Joins the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor as a consultant through Zhongli’s recommendation 8.
- Helps Hu Tao complete her Wuwang Hill work with yin-yang techniques and teleportation 10.
- Supports the transfer of responsibility to mortals, while remaining a safeguard if Liyue must face a god 8 26.
Qiqi’s Restoration
- Finds Qiqi at Bubu Pharmacy and recognizes that she already possesses an adeptal body, but still has impaired mental faculties 23.
- Restores her cognition and reinforces her soul; her Vision shines as she becomes a Three-Eyed Five-Manifestation Immortal 23.
- Uses a clone to separate his consultant identity from his adeptus-lord identity, then takes Qiqi to Madame Ping for instruction 24 25.
Qiu Xue and Qiu Yue
- Assumes his female form to investigate a presence near the site of Azhdaha’s purification and recovers his lost essence 33.
- Experiences increasingly severe pain after absorbing it, eventually losing consciousness when the orb separates from his body 38 39.
- Discovers that the essence has become a sentient goddess resembling Qiu Xue. He names her Qiu Yue, distinguishing his new sister from his own female form 39 40.
- Introduces her to Xiangling, Childe, and Hu Tao, then arranges for her to assist at the funeral parlor when he is absent 41 43.
Golden House Battle
- Receives a system quest to perform an evenly matched battle before Lumine 49.
- Initially stages an apparent defeat, but the system rejects it as insufficient. He heals Lumine’s and Paimon’s scraped hands after they search the rubble for him 49.
- Restricts his strength to Childe’s level, further reducing his output when Lumine joins so that he does not accidentally kill his opponent 49 50.
- Completes the quest after maintaining a prolonged stalemate. He pushes Lumine out of danger before Childe’s empowered whale strikes him, then collapses after spitting blood 50.
Notable Quotes
“Morax, whatever you decide to do, I'll support you.” 8
“My way of thinking isn't like that of those old, staid Adepti. Just treat me as one of you.” 30
Trivia
- Tian Tie Zui’s legend claims that Qiu Bai fought Rex Lapis for three hundred rounds. Qiu Bai privately corrects this: the original spar lasted only a few moves, and Morax was holding back 12.
- Qiu Xue and Qiu Yue are not interchangeable: Qiu Xue is Qiu Bai’s transformed identity; Qiu Yue is an independent goddess born from his essence 39 40.
- The system announces its unbinding after his tenfold recovery, but is active again by the time he receives the Yin-Yang Chaos Sword and Golden House quest. The supplied passages do not explain this return 7 44 49.
