Background / History
Lumian was born and raised in the world in which Cordu Village exists. He lives with Aurore and seeks Beyonder powers to protect her, despite her repeated warnings about their dangers. Before meeting Nimrod, he investigates the village’s Warlock legend and explores what he calls the “Dream Ruins” 5 6 33.
His understanding of reality is reversed: the contaminated ruins are the real Cordu Village, while the intact village where Aurore remains alive is his dream. The ruined region formed through several powers after Klein, the Fool, sealed an Outer Deity’s Angel inside him. The Aurore within the dream is a projection formed from a fragment of her soul 3 6.
The dream protects Lumian from confronting the truth. Nimrod believes that destroying it without preparation could cause him to lose control. As Lumian approaches that truth, the dream’s Aurore increasingly follows his subconscious image of her rather than behaving as an independent, nearly complete spirit 31 32.
Personality
Lumian’s desire to protect Aurore outweighs his pride. He is willing to acknowledge Nimrod as a father if doing so will give him Beyonder powers, and he accepts the Hunter pathway without waiting for another opportunity. His concern extends beyond immediate danger: he notices Aurore’s distracted behavior and asks whether the Hidden Sage’s ravings are troubling her again 8 27 32.
He is mischievous, brazen, and quick to improvise. He tries to tease Nimrod with an affectionate expression normally used by a father toward a child, presents Nimrod’s deductions to impress Aurore, and fabricates a reckless account of his advancement to conceal his godfather’s involvement from Fors. Beneath the bravado, he recognizes mistakes and reciprocates kindness: after nearly dying during the monster hunt, he resolves to become more cautious and begins calling Nimrod “Godfather” with genuine respect 7 26 30 31.
Abilities & Skills
Hunter Physiology and Instincts
- Enhanced physical capabilities: Becoming a Hunter substantially improves his energy and physical performance, though he has not completely surpassed human limits 30.
- Instinctive weapon and trap knowledge: He learns to use certain weapons and traps without instruction after consuming the potion 30.
- Observation: Nimrod identifies ample powers of observation as a Hunter strength, while noting the pathway’s limited spirituality and mystical capabilities at this stage 28.
- Combat strength: He kills Guillaume Bénet with a punch after Nimrod restrains and weakens the priest; this is not an unaided victory 37.
- Low-Sequence limitations: During the Lent operation, Nimrod assigns him to hold off other cultists rather than confront the ritual’s leader directly 34.
Hunting and Trap-Setting
- Plans to use himself as bait and lure the Shotgun Monster through multiple deep traps rather than fight it head-on 8.
- Sets traps in the mountains and beside the river while initially avoiding the church to conceal preparations 33.
- Helps Nimrod place occult explosives beside the church; Nimrod supplies the materials and conceals the arrays with gray mist 33.
- Covers up an exposed trap during the Blessing Procession by blaming a hunter who failed to remove it 36.
Deception and Practical Knowledge
- Pretends to have swallowed a raw Beyonder characteristic so Fors will not learn that Nimrod prepared his potion 30.
- Learns foundational Beyonder knowledge from Nimrod, including the two Beyonder laws and the Acting Method; Fors later repeats some of this instruction 30.
- Understands Trier slang and rural Intis expressions well enough to use them in teasing and wordplay 5 7.
- Cooks meals for Aurore and Nimrod, including meat-sauce pasta made from Aurore’s recipe 30 31.
Dream and Sealed Entity
- Dream source: Lumian is the master and source of the Cordu Village dream, but does not initially understand its nature 6 29.
- Subconscious influence: His changing understanding affects the behavior of Aurore’s dream projection 32 34.
- Chest symbol: A peculiar symbol on his chest emits a strange sound during his advancement, nearly killing him 28.
- The Fool’s seal: Nimrod identifies the seal’s origin using Chinese and warns Lumian not to repeat the term to Aurore, who would understand it and become corrupted 30.
- Vulnerability to revelation: Secrets capable of provoking Lumian can trigger an immediate mental stress response within his dream 35.

- Sharp dagger — Selected for concealability during preparations for the attack on the cultists 34.

Relationships
- Aurore Lee — Older sister, only family, and principal reason for pursuing Beyonder powers. She initially opposes his involvement, then accepts his decision after learning that he has become a Hunter 5 6 31.

Story Role / Major Arcs
The Warlock and the Monster Hunt
- An owl associated with the Warlock legend appears outside Lumian’s window after his exploration of the ruins. Fearing that Aurore may be drawn into danger, he tells her everything he has encountered 5.
- Nimrod’s arrival gives Lumian a potential route to becoming a Beyonder. He requests that opportunity and agrees to hunt the Shotgun Monster 7 8.
- The hunt nearly kills him, but the power accompanying Nimrod’s return immobilizes the monster long enough for Lumian to finish it. Nimrod then prepares the Hunter potion 26 27.
Sabotaging Lent
- Lumian and Aurore consider leaving Cordu, but Nimrod explains that the village is enclosed within a ritual and cannot be escaped normally. Lent offers a crucial opportunity to act 28 31.
- The group decides to attack the ritual’s organizers. Lumian gathers information, digs traps, and helps prepare explosives 32 33.
- At the church, he attacks Pierre Berry to prevent Ava’s sacrifice. Nimrod kills Pierre, and Lumian later kills the restrained Guillaume Bénet 36 37.
The Restart and the Twelve-Day Loop
- Victory collapses into panic when Lumian sees Aurore with blood-red eyes and experiences painful fragments of recognition. He begs Nimrod to save her 37.
- After Nimrod intervenes, Lumian awakens on March 29, 1358. Aurore is present but has no memory of Nimrod 37.
- Nimrod tells him that powerful beings deliberately engineered the twelve-day loop to shape him into a tool defined by particular symbols. Lumian resolves to explore the dream’s secrets rather than accept the loop as unavoidable 38.
- Unknown to Lumian, Aurore has accepted Nimrod’s offer to reconstruct her past self in exchange for Lumian’s future assistance. She asks Nimrod to do his best not to hurt her brother 35.
