Bruce led the church member named Paul Targett into a room.
"Mr. Paul Targett, what can I do for you?"
"Let's sit down first. Mr. Wayne, how much do you know about your origins and your family?" Paul looked at Bruce with a smile, studying him. He was fairly handsome, if a little thin.
"Not much. My parents died young, and I only inherited my uncle's estate a month or two ago. I don't know much about the family's history," Bruce replied. It was an honest answer, more or less.
Paul Targett clearly wasn't a local. He was probably the Nightfall Association investigator from Metropolis whom Cameron had mentioned. Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked about Bruce's family history so abruptly.
Paul pulled a document from inside his coat.
"Here's the situation. You recently became an Extraordinary, Mr. Wayne, and our church recently uncovered a relatively confidential document concerning the Wayne Family. According to the document, the Wayne Family's lineage may carry the blood of the Goddess of the Night. You may have her blood within you. I came from Metropolis to verify that."
"I have the blood of the Goddess of the Night? You must be joking!" Bruce's eyes widened as he asked in disbelief. Surprise, confusion, and excitement flashed through his eyes, all those complicated emotions showing on his face as though the news had truly stunned him.
Bruce thought his performance was spot-on.
He took Paul's document and read through it. This was the material Cruno had edited and abridged. It detailed the Wayne Family's history, but made no mention of the fact that the person saved by the Sacred Scarab had also been named Bruce Wayne.
"To think there was such a chapter in our history." Bruce hadn't known the Wayne Family history recorded in the document,
