Smoke hung over the battlefield, and the bones and rotting flesh of undead creatures littered the trenches and the ground around them.
Rowan followed the inner defensive line to the Cannon Position.
Jaina was resting against the defensive sandbags. Her continuous spellcasting had drained both her strength and her energy.
When Rowan found her, Jaina was tearing into the bread Archmage Eileen had handed her.
Seeing his fiancée's face smeared with dust and blood tugged at the softest part of Rowan's heart. It hurt to look at her.
"You're not hurt, are you?" Rowan wrapped his arms around Jaina and checked her carefully from head to toe.
Only after finding nothing worse than a few superficial wounds did Rowan let out a long breath of relief.
Watching Rowan fuss over her, Jaina gazed adoringly at her man with glistening eyes. A soft, rosy blush rose on her fair cheeks.
Anything I do for this man is worth it.
Feeling the warmth of Rowan's embrace, Jaina said gently, "No, I'm not. Stop feeling me up."
"These are spell potions I got from Ellen, along with some charging elixirs enhanced with azerite..."
Rowan took out every treasure he had brought from Medivh's Laboratory and laid them before Jaina.
Watching the young couple reunite after their separation, Eileen discreetly took a step back. Staying here would only make her feel like a third wheel.
"Are you hurt?" Eileen had backed up a few steps when her shoulder bumped into a solid chest.
"It's nothing. I've only run out of mana. The pain from the backlash has already passed." Eileen lifted the corners of her lips slightly and smiled.
Ever since Xal'atath had supplied Eileen with some fresh flesh, her body was no longer a stiff undead corpse, but living flesh controlled by shadow.
