| Peak Early Nascent Soul | 130 | Revealed this level of spiritual pressure while entering Void Sky Hall under the identity of Li Muwan. |
| Further Southern Bright Lihuo Fire attainment | 162 | Comprehended the endlessly renewing nature of Separation Flame. Burned away much of her Nascent Soul’s yin substance, removing the bottleneck before Late Nascent Soul; no corresponding realm breakthrough is stated. |
Background / History
Covering Moon Sect and the Forbidden Land
Nangong Wan reached Core Formation within the Covering Moon Sect and became one of its gifted cultivators and renowned alchemists. She normally cultivated alone and wore a veil; her encounter with Lin Yun was her first experience of such close intimacy with a man 58 59 122.
During the Blood-Colored Forbidden Land expedition, Covering Moon Sect disciples sealed her inside an underground space using the Little Sumeru Forbidden Technique. There, she fought a second-stage Ink Flood Dragon before joining forces with Lin Yun to kill it 21 23.
Their cooperation quickly became an argument over the spoils. Lin Yun took the dragon’s soul essence, leaving her its body. Mistaking its aphrodisiac gland for a valuable core, she reached for it despite his warning and released a pink mist. Lin Yun escaped with her and taught her a mind-clearing formula; both regained control, and no sexual encounter occurred. She agreed to conceal his Formless Sword Escape and demanded secrecy about their predicament 23 24.
Before leaving, Lin Yun falsely introduced himself as Han Li. Nangong Wan later encountered the real Han Li and obtained Lin Yun’s identity and location from Li Huayuan 25 35.
Confession and Escape to the Chaotic Star Sea
After returning to her sect, Nangong Wan found herself unable to forget Lin Yun. Her attachment nearly caused cultivation deviation, although the formula he had taught her continued to support her progress. When she learned that Yellow Maple Valley’s evacuation might place him in danger, she went to rescue him, only to discover that he had already left 51.
After fighting her way out of the Covering Moon Sect, she was pursued by Demonic Path cultivators. She gravely wounded the younger Li brother through a feint, but injuries and depleted magical power left her vulnerable. Lin Yun rescued her and killed the pursuing elder surnamed Li 49 50.
Confronted by Yunlu Old Devil, she confessed her feelings and proposed becoming Dao Companions. Lin Yun subsequently took her to an Ancient Teleportation Formation, through which they escaped to the Chaotic Star Sea with their companions 51 52.
Cultivation in Tianxing City
While traveling toward Tianxing City, Nangong Wan adopted Lin Yun’s Nine-Turn Core Formation Method and learned Southern Bright Lihuo Fire. The combined methods allowed her to retain Core Formation cultivation during her next Reincarnation Stage, though her youthful appearance then took years to return to normal 58 59 60 77.
At the ancient cultivator ruins, she overcame the third-turn bottleneck and later helped defeat the Fengle Merchant Alliance cultivators plotting against them. She killed Madam Bi and burned the middle-aged cultivator Bai to ashes. When Elder Chen investigated, she and Lin Yun concealed their involvement 85 86 92 97.
She eventually chose to form a Nascent Soul after the sixth turn rather than pursue all nine turns. Her original cultivation foundation differed from Lin Yun’s, making his full Golden Core route unattainable for her. After refining the Vermilion Phoenix Sword to deepen her understanding of true essence, she volunteered to face Elder Chen’s challenge as her Human Tribulation. By the time she formed her Nascent Soul, the sixth turn was complete 107 120 121 122.
Following her breakthrough, she declined recruitment offers by explaining that she needed to stabilize her Nascent Soul. Over the next ten years, she avoided prolonged seclusion apart from a two-year effort to refine the Vermilion Bird Ring anew 122.
Void Sky Hall
Nangong Wan entered Void Sky Hall disguised as Li Muwan, accompanying Lin Yun under his Wang Lin identity. She befriended Madam Wen after learning that Six Paths Supreme Sage had made her a demonic furnace cauldron and artifact-refining material 128 131 134.
She and Lin Yun secretly reached the Cold Li Terrace ahead of other groups. There, she killed Profound Bone and retrieved the Void Sky Cauldron with assistance from Han Li’s Blood Jade Spider and Lin Yun’s Innate One Qi Great Grasping 139 144 145.
After leaving the hall, she studied the cauldron on a deserted island but could only change its size; its lid remained sealed. She handed it to Lin Yun for further investigation 148 151.
Later Travels
Their planned return to the Heavenly South was delayed when Lin Yun discovered that the teleportation formation at its far end had been damaged 157.
Nangong Wan later supplied Lin Yun with a wisp of Separation Fire essence, depleting her vitality. While recovering, she gained the insight that removed her remaining Nascent Soul advancement bottlenecks. She then visited Madam Wen at White Jade Mountain and traveled with her to the Outer Sea 161 162.
She reunited with Lin Yun and Xin Ruoyin on Strange Abyss Island as a beast tide threatened Blackstone City. With the city’s teleportation array destroyed, they attended a meeting to discuss survival and escape. Later, she helped process the Azure Flood Dragon’s remains after leaving the Inverse Star Alliance headquarters 166 172.
Appearance
Nangong Wan’s usual appearance combines a slender, well-proportioned figure with dignified elegance 24 35.
- Facial features: Willow-leaf brows 25.
- Clothing: Often wears a white veil; appears in white court or palace gowns 49 58 73 91.
- Reincarnation Stage appearance: Looks approximately fifteen or sixteen. After her first core turn, she must physically grow back to her usual appearance over several years without losing her cultivation 60 77.
- Li Muwan disguise: A gentle-looking woman in a blue-and-white gauze dress, created through Transformation Technique 128.
Personality
Nangong Wan is proud of her seniority and quick to challenge disrespect. Her early dealings with Lin Yun feature threats, cold replies, and irritation at his false identity; as their relationship develops, these become teasing exchanges and affectionate exasperation 23 24 51 54 58.
Her commitment to cultivation is firm. Although frustrated by resource costs and prolonged bottlenecks, she refuses Lin Yun’s suggestion that she abandon the Nine-Turn Method to avoid tribulations. She insists on completing the path she has chosen 74 77 79.
She is protective toward those close to her and compassionate toward victims of exploitation. She tries to rescue Lin Yun, offers him her scarce cultivation pills, worries about Xin Ruoyin’s dangerous seclusion, and befriends Madam Wen out of sympathy for her situation 51 61 109 134.
Abilities & Skills

Nangong Wan cultivates Lin Yun’s method to develop essence, energy, and spirit together 58 59.

- Acknowledges that Lin Yun’s alchemy surpasses hers and entrusts the ruins’ harvested herbs to him 82.
- Refines the Vermilion Phoenix Sword as a means of understanding her own true essence 120.
- Repeatedly refines and tests the Vermilion Bird Ring as her cultivation develops 99 122.
Transformation Technique

- Uses the disguise to enter Void Sky Hall and presents herself as Wang Lin’s wife 128 138.
- Reuses the identity after leaving the hall 148.
