Background / History
Tang San was a Tang Sect disciple in his previous life and retains its cultivation method, secret arts, and hidden-weapon techniques. He regards these inherited skills as a major advantage over the inhabitants of the Douluo Continent 14 15.
He is the son of Tang Hao and Ah Yin, the Blue Silver Emperor. During his childhood, Tang Hao noticed that he practiced unfamiliar techniques without instruction but largely left him to his own devices; Tang San instead cared for his father. Tang Hao began taking his future seriously after he awakened twin martial souls, particularly the Clear Sky Hammer 11 25.
At Nuoding Academy, Tang San becomes Yu Xiaogang’s disciple. Before obtaining his first soul ring, he single-handedly kills a four-hundred-year-old Mandala Snake—a feat Yu Xiaogang later cites as proof that he can fight above his level 13 14.
Personality
Tang San is attentive in class, respectful toward Yu Xiaogang, and concerned for Xiao Wu’s well-being. When asked to spar with Jin Jiuxiao, he initially worries that using his otherworldly techniques against a six-and-a-half-year-old would be unfair 10 14.
His confidence rests heavily on the superiority of the Tang Sect’s teachings. He believes hidden weapons make him invincible within his tier and initially accepts Yu Xiaogang’s claim that Jin Jiuxiao’s faster cultivation must come from drugs that damage future potential 14 15.
Defeat exposes how closely his pride is tied to those techniques. He first explains his setbacks through differences in martial souls and attributes, then privately blames Yu Xiaogang’s premature conclusions. Although he warns Jin Jiuxiao before escalating the spar, he also uses hidden weapons because he cannot accept the humiliation. Their failure leaves him doubting himself, his teacher, and the Tang Sect Secret Arts 15 16.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, giving him access to two separate sets of soul rings 14 15.
- Blue Silver Grass: His currently used martial soul, developed along a poison-attribute control path under Yu Xiaogang 14 22 27.
- Blue Silver Emperor potential: His inherited bloodline makes the grass stronger than ordinary Blue Silver Grass even without a second awakening. Life-attribute soul rings could resonate with its origin and support that awakening 27.
- Clear Sky Hammer: Identified by Yu Xiaogang as the world’s greatest tool martial soul. Tang San considers it his long-term advantage but does not use it during the documented spar 15 16.
- Planned development: Yu Xiaogang advises him to cultivate Blue Silver Grass until Soul Douluo or Titled Douluo before adding soul rings to the hammer. An all-ten-thousand-year hammer configuration remains a future plan, not an attained power 16.
Blue Silver Entanglement
His first soul skill produces thick blue silver vines from underground to restrain opponents 15.
- Can be strengthened by committing more soul power 16.
- Uses the vines to conceal silver needles fired through gaps in their formation 16.
- Jin Jiuxiao’s Thunderbolt tears through the vines without stopping its advance 15.
Mysterious Heaven Skill and Treasure Mirror
Tang San retains the Mysterious Heaven Skill and Mysterious Heaven Treasure Mirror from his previous life. He considers them an enormous advantage over local cultivation practices 14 15.
- Practices his otherworldly cultivation and secret arts before Tang Hao teaches him how to cultivate 25.
- Their existence contributes to Jin Jiuxiao’s suspicion that he may be connected to the Asura God 20.
Purple Demon Eye
An eye technique marked by a purple gleam in his eyes 15.
- Activates it while responding to Jin Jiuxiao’s Thunderbolt 15.
- Clearly observes Jin Jiuxiao intercepting and returning his needles, allowing him to recognize that raw speed and strength—not hidden-weapon technique—overcame his attack 16.
Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track
Footwork focused on evasive, deceptive movement rather than sheer straight-line speed 15.
- Enables him to narrowly dodge Thunderbolt 15.
- Tang San recognizes that Jin Jiuxiao’s Lightning Speed has superior straight-line acceleration and later admits that neither movement technique gives him a clear overall advantage 15 16.
- Yu Xiaogang mistakes the technique for a self-created soul skill 15.
Mysterious Jade Hand and Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon
Tang San combines jade-colored hands with a catching and counterattacking technique to meet Jin Jiuxiao’s punch 15.
- Attempts to catch the incoming fist and turn the exchange into a counterattack 15.
- Fails to stop even one punch; he is thrown several meters and left with a numb right hand 15.
- Their failure is part of the defeat that shakes his faith in the Tang Sect Secret Arts 16.
Tang Sect Hidden Weapons
Tang San uses silver needles with precise targeting and attacks from multiple directions 16.
- Fires three needles in an inverted triangular formation toward Jin Jiuxiao’s shoulders and abdomen 16.
- Follows with dozens of needles from different angles 16.
- Jin Jiuxiao catches and returns the first three, then redirects the remaining barrage with Electric Discharge 16.
- After losing, Tang San reassures himself that he has not yet demonstrated the Tang Sect’s full capabilities 16.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Silver needles — Hidden weapons used during the Nuoding Academy spar. Two returned needles pierce his shoulders, while another grazes his scalp and cuts away a lock of black hair 16.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father and concealed protector. He begins investing in Tang San’s future after the twin martial soul awakening and hopes to use his growth to achieve revenge. He also considers obtaining hundred-thousand-year soul bones for him 11 12 25.
- Ah Yin — Mother and source of his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline. Bi Ji explains that only one of them can become the reigning Blue Silver Emperor at a time 11 27.
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher. Tang San initially admires his apparent generosity, but the defeat by Jin Jiuxiao introduces resentment and doubt. Yu Xiaogang restores some of his confidence by emphasizing the Clear Sky Hammer’s future potential 14 16.
- Xiao Wu — Close companion whom he supports and takes back to rest when she appears distressed. Tang Hao secretly regards her as a reserve soul ring and soul bone for him; Tang San is not shown knowing of that intention 10 11 12.
- Jin Jiuxiao — Sparring opponent and deliberate adversary. Although they initially have no personal grievance, Jin Jiuxiao targets him to prevent the future suffering he foresees for the Soul Beast Clan 14.
- Zi Ji — Regards him as a possible Asura God successor and supports plans to prevent his Blue Silver Emperor awakening 17.
- Di Tian — Considers his twin martial souls and potential access to divine trials a serious threat. He rejects killing Tang San personally because it could draw divine scrutiny toward the injured Silver Dragon King 20.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Defeat at Nuoding Academy
- Yu Xiaogang arranges a spar to make Jin Jiuxiao acknowledge his teaching ability. A loss would require Jin Jiuxiao to become his disciple; a win would earn an academy recommendation 14.
- Tang San enters at level thirteen against Jin Jiuxiao’s level sixteen and confidently accepts the three-rank disadvantage 14 15.
- Jin Jiuxiao destroys Blue Silver Entanglement, outmaneuvers his footwork, and overpowers his hand techniques 15.
- Tang San escalates to hidden weapons but is wounded by his own returned needles. Tang Hao briefly locks his aura onto Jin Jiuxiao before Zi Ji forces him to withdraw it 16.
- Tang San admits defeat. Yu Xiaogang’s reassurance revives some confidence, but doubts about his teacher and inherited techniques remain 16.
Campaign Against His Blue Silver Emperor Awakening
- Jin Jiuxiao identifies Tang San to Di Tian as a possible Asura God successor. This remains a suspicion, not confirmed divine succession 20.
- The ferocious beasts plan to remove his external awakening resources: Ah Yin’s right leg soul bone and the Blue Silver Forest’s soul beasts 20 27.
- They retrieve the soul bone and draw Tang Hao away from his concealed watch over Tang San. The confrontation culminates in Tang Hao’s fatal last stand, during which he burns his source and detonates all nine soul rings 24 26.
- Ah Yin is recovered and taken toward the Blue Silver clan’s ancestral grounds. Restoring her as emperor would prevent Tang San from awakening the same martial soul while she reigns 26 27.
- Bi Ji clarifies that the restriction is reversible: if the reigning emperor dies, the other bloodline holder can succeed them. Jin Jiuxiao therefore seeks to restore Ah Yin before Tang San can complete his own awakening 27.
- His poison-oriented development remains central to the scheme. Jin Jiuxiao argues that Yu Xiaogang’s choices prevent an independent awakening, while the Myriad Demon King watches ancient soul beasts that might otherwise supply life-attribute rings 22 27.
