After Xia You and his Pokémon fought off Jessie and James, Gozu and the Matori Matrix ambushed them, leaving Xia You and Looker facing Team Rocket’s elite unit.

• Xia You found Looker wounded in a warehouse, treated him and his poisoned Pokémon, and learned that Team Rocket’s Matori Matrix had attacked him.
• Looker refused to go to a Pokémon Center because Team Rocket might have informants and decided to escape by freight train.
• Jessie and James burst into the warehouse to attack Xia You, while Kirlia, Charmander, and Squirtle stopped their Pokémon.
• Xia You helped Looker flee through the warehouse’s back door, but a rocket struck near the railway tracks and a strange wind carried them clear of the blast.
• Gozu introduced himself and the four other Team Rocket members on the rooftop as the Matori Matrix.

Xia You and Looker faced the Matori Matrix as their Pokémon clashed in the warehouse. Xia You arranged Looker’s escape aboard a passing train, but the Matrix moved to stop him before a giant Meowth-shaped robot appeared.

• Gozu recognized Xia You and ordered the Matori Matrix to attack him and Looker with their Pokémon.
• Xia You released his Pokémon, while Jessie, James, and Meowth secretly planned to interfere with the Matrix during the fight.

• Jessie and James used the Meowth robot to delay Gozu’s team and block the freight train, while Xia You’s Pokémon defeated Rhyperior and Toxicroak.
• Gozu’s Aggron knocked Gyarados down, but the Meowth robot’s Bulldoze struck Aggron and let Squirtle and Ivysaur attack it.

Xia You defeated Team Rocket’s trio, and Squirtle evolved into Wartortle before he escaped the guards. At the Pokémon Center, he revealed the Game Corner base and Giovanni’s identity to Looker, who warned him the next morning to leave the city while the International Police prepared their investigation.

• Xia You’s Pokémon destroyed the Meowth robot, and Jessie, James, and Meowth were blasted into the sky.
• Squirtle evolved into Wartortle, and Xia You recalled his injured Pokémon and left before the guards arrived.
• Xia You told Looker that Team Rocket’s base was beneath the Game Corner, prompting Looker to contact his superiors.
• Xia You told Looker that Giovanni led Team Rocket, and Looker’s shock reopened his wound.
• Looker informed Xia You that headquarters planned to raid the base but advised him to leave the city to avoid alerting Team Rocket.

Xia You visited Celadon Gym to challenge Erika after Looker invited him to join a future Team Rocket raid team. Their three-Pokémon battle began with Charmander facing Erika’s Tangela, and Tangela narrowly dodged Charmander’s Ember.

• Looker told Xia You that he might be invited to join a special operations team assembled to raid the Team Rocket Base, and Xia You agreed.
• Xia You arrived at Celadon Gym, where a staff member led him through its greenhouses to meet Erika.
• Xia You challenged Erika, and she accepted before taking him to the Gym battlefield.

Xia You’s Charmander defeated Erika’s Tangela and Weepinbell, evolving into Charmeleon after the second victory. Erika sent out her final Pokémon, Gloom, as the Gym battle continued.

• Charmander used Ember along Tangela’s vines, setting Tangela alight before finishing it with another burst of fire.
• Erika recalled Tangela and sent out Weepinbell, which used Razor Leaf and Acid against Charmander.
• Charmander hid in Smokescreen, then struck Weepinbell with Ember, repeated claw swipes, and Dragon Rage while Weepinbell was committed to Razor Leaf.
• The blue-haired referee declared Weepinbell unable to battle, and Charmander evolved into Charmeleon.
• Erika sent out her final Pokémon, Gloom.

Xia You defeated Erika in a Gym battle and earned the Rainbow Badge after Charmeleon and Gloom both became unable to battle. He left with his fifth badge and renewed confidence in Charmeleon's potential.

• Erika sent out Gloom, whose foul stench made Charmeleon struggle, and Xia You had Charmeleon attack with Flamethrower.
• Gloom put Charmeleon to sleep with Sleep Powder, then used Growth to strengthen its Solar Beam.
• Gloom's Solar Beam woke Charmeleon, who activated Blaze and charged through Poison Powder to strike Gloom with Fire Fang.
• Charmeleon collapsed from the Poison Powder, but Fire Fang burned Gloom, leaving both Pokémon unable to battle and giving Xia You the victory.
• Erika praised Charmeleon and awarded Xia You the Rainbow Badge, his fifth badge.

Xia You trained with Zapdos and Haunter before Chloe and Goh visited Cerise Park, where he gave Chloe perfume and startled Goh with his hidden Pokémon. He arranged to move Zapdos into a Great Ball, then visited Yoshino Cerise and praised the finished manga.

• Xia You trained Haunter and Zapdos until both were exhausted, and Zapdos showed it had begun to accept his direction.

• Misty spotted an injured Horsea, which drew pictures of two jellyfish in ink as a cargo ship exploded nearby and sank.

After Nastina offered a million-dollar reward to drive off the Tentacool, Team Rocket’s provocation led one of them to become a giant Tentacruel that devastated the city with a tsunami. Xia You and the others escaped on Gyarados, and Xia You explained that the hotel had been built over the Tentacool’s coral reef habitat.

• Misty refused Nastina’s offer and said the Tentacool must have a reason for attacking people.
• Nastina’s announcement drew Trainers to the docks, where Team Rocket accepted the job and provoked a huge gathering of Tentacool.
• A Tentacool was doused with an unknown liquid and transformed into a giant Tentacruel, which began wrecking Nastina’s hotel.
• Nastina’s weapons failed to hurt the giant Tentacruel, and it sent a tsunami and Tentacool into the city.
• Xia You got Ash, Brock, and Misty onto Gyarados and led them to safety on a hill overlooking the ruined city.
• Xia You explained that the hotel had been built on the Tentacool’s coral reef and that construction had driven them to retaliate.

Xia You joined the battle against the Tentacool, then secretly summoned Zapdos and rode it to the top of the television tower. Zapdos charged toward the giant Tentacruel as the Trainers below spotted the Legendary Pokémon overhead.

• Xia You and the other Trainers sent out their Pokémon to fight the Tentacool, while Misty joined them with Staryu, Starmie, and Goldeen.
• As the battle stalled, Xia You left the crowd and put on a Gengar mask and a raincoat to conceal his identity.
• Xia You summoned Zapdos and persuaded it to carry him to the top of the television tower.
• Xia You pointed out the giant Tentacruel, and Zapdos flew toward it to fight.
• A Trainer spotted Zapdos streaking across the sky, and the nearby Trainers looked up in shock.

Xia You and Zapdos battled the giant Tentacruel as it attacked the city, while Misty and Xia You’s other Pokémon fought the Tentacool. After Tentacruel brought down part of the television tower, Zapdos rescued Xia You, who then leaped back onto the tower using an unknown ability.

• Zapdos attacked the giant Tentacruel, and Xia You watched from the television tower while Misty commanded his other Pokémon against the Tentacool.
• At Xia You’s command, Zapdos used Thunderbolt, shocking Tentacruel and many Tentacool; Tentacruel then used Meowth’s mouth to declare its revenge on humans for destroying its home.
• Zapdos struck Tentacruel with Drill Peck, but Tentacruel endured the attack and fired a beam that collapsed the television tower beneath Xia You.
• Zapdos caught Xia You as he fell, then dodged more beams while carrying him; Xia You jumped off and returned to the tower by flying on the wind, astonishing the onlookers.

Xia You helped Zapdos defeat the giant Tentacruel in Yumachi Harbor, then said goodbye to Misty and continued north to Maiden's Peak. There, he proposed using a comic to share the town’s legend, but learned the mayor would need to approve the plan.

• Zapdos struck the giant Tentacruel with Thunder, ending its rampage, while Xia You rode away on Zapdos and later rejoined Ash, Brock, and Misty.
• Misty gained Horsea’s trust after tending to and protecting it, and Horsea willingly became her Pokémon.

• Xia You and Looker waited with Erika and Sabrina for the signal while Lance, Agatha, and Nanu waited in a second sedan.
• An explosion outside Celadon City signaled the start of the operation, and the group entered the Game Corner and uncovered the hidden entrance to Team Rocket’s base.

Xia You and Erika fought Apollo and Athena until Lance arrived with support from the SWAT unit, forcing the Rocket officers to retreat. The operation secured the upper basement levels, but the team found a composed middle-aged man waiting in the fourth-level hall.

• Xia You’s Pokémon defeated Athena’s Arbok and Murkrow while Apollo’s Tyranitar attacked Xia You and Erika, and Xia You shielded her from the blast.
• Apollo released Magmar, but Lance burst into the cafeteria and sent a Pokémon crashing into Tyranitar.

• Looker confronted Giovanni at the base and ordered him to surrender, while Giovanni dismissed the assembled Trainers’ strength.
• Giovanni summoned an armored Pokémon that Xia You recognized as Mewtwo.
• Mewtwo repelled Looker’s Croagunk and Growlithe, then defeated Lance’s Dragonite and Agatha’s Gengar with psychic power.
• Erika, Sabrina, Nanu, Looker, and the others sent their Pokémon to attack Mewtwo together as Xia You watched cautiously.

Mewtwo broke free during the assault on Team Rocket’s base, while Giovanni escaped and the authorities captured many Rocket members but no executives. Back in Vermilion City, Xia You took a two-day break and watched Chloe show him a popular video of his disguised battle with the giant Tentacruel.

• Kirlia’s psychic power freed Xia You from Mewtwo’s telepathy, and Mewtwo became agitated as Giovanni urged it to defeat their opponents.
• Giovanni entered an elevator to escape, but Mewtwo unleashed a blast that knocked everyone down before smashing through the ceilings and fleeing.
• Looker pursued Giovanni, while Xia You helped Sabrina and Erika up and the group recognized that the operation had both succeeded and failed.
• Xia You returned to Vermilion City and rested at Cerise Park, where he trained Charmeleon and Jolteon while Chloe groomed Kirlia.

After returning the Silph Scope to Mr. Silph, Xia You left Vermilion City for Fuchsia City by riding Gyarados across the sea. A storm overtook them, but several Dragonite rescued Xia You and carried him to an isolated island surrounded by a ring of storms.

• Sabrina told Xia You that Mr. Silph had modified the Silph Scope so it could be installed on his mask, and Xia You asked her to hold on to it until he visited Saffron City.
• Xia You spent the afternoon learning laboratory skills from Professor Cerise, Ren, and Chrysa before setting out for Fuchsia City on Monday.
• Xia You chose to cross the sea on Gyarados instead of traveling overland or taking a cruise ship.

• Dragonite rescued Xia You and left him to explore their island habitat, where he saw many Dragonite, Dragonair, and Dratini.
• Xia You and Haunter discussed the connection between Dratini, Dragonair, and Milotic, then reached a waterfall where Dratini gathered.
• Xia You released his Pokémon to play with the Dratini and noticed one hiding alone, frightened of him.
• Haunter learned from the Dragonite that the lonely Dratini’s mother had left the island with a Trainer’s Dragonite and was living happily.
• Xia You offered the Dratini food, and it cautiously came out to take the can before retreating to eat while he tried to comfort it.

Xia You caught a Dratini after it followed him for more canned food and left Dragonite Island with his Pokémon. He reached Fuchsia City and trekked into the mountains, where he finally spotted the Fuchsia Gym.

• Dratini followed Xia You as he prepared to leave Dragonite Island, and he caught it with a Poké Ball.
• Xia You rode Zapdos away from the island, then switched to Gyarados to swim unseen to shore.
• Xia You passed the Safari Zone and learned that the Fuchsia Gym stood in the mountains outside the city.
• Xia You explained that Gym Leader Koga was a Poison-type expert and ninja, and that the rugged route served as a test for Trainers.
• Xia You and Haunter reached a cliff and saw the Fuchsia Gym compound across the way.

Xia You entered the trap-filled Fuchsia Gym with Kirlia and Haunter and encountered Janine, Gym Leader Koga’s daughter. Janine challenged him to a one-on-one battle as the test before he could continue through the Gym, and Xia You asked Haunter to fight Crobat.

• Xia You entered the Fuchsia Gym and used Kirlia’s psychic powers to avoid a rotating floor, a pitfall, and a rolling boulder.
• Xia You sent Haunter after the person setting off traps, and Haunter startled Janine into revealing herself.
• Janine introduced herself as Koga’s daughter and led Xia You through more traps to the Gym’s wooden battlefield.
• Janine set a one-on-one battle as the condition for passing through the door behind her and sent out Crobat.

Xia You defeated Janine’s Crobat with Jolteon and continued deeper into the Fuchsia Gym. He became trapped between invisible glass walls in a corridor, then recognized the trap and kicked at the wooden wall.

• Janine challenged Xia You to battle with Crobat after Haunter refused, and Xia You sent out Jolteon.
• Jolteon and Crobat traded attacks, then both suffered status conditions as Jolteon was poisoned and Crobat was paralyzed.
