Background / History

Shen Jun was an Earth human who inexplicably transmigrated to a jungle planet inhabited by enormous alien beasts. After three days of evasion, Rohana—a Purifier Copy of the Protoss Highest Protector existing inside him as an Overmind—taught him to control his exceptional psionic talent, enabling his first kill and survival 1 2.

Rohana revealed that she had fled her destroyed universe with Protoss, human, and Zerg databases to preserve civilization after Amon's return. She selected Shen Jun as the guardian and leader needed to revive the Protoss, while retaining the role of his assistant 2. Shen Jun began gathering Biological Essence from alien creatures, warping in Protoss infrastructure and troops, and establishing a foothold on the planet that would become Aiur 2 3 4.

Although chosen as the Protoss' leader, Shen Jun feared that his human identity would eventually undermine his position among a restored civilization. He therefore chose to undergo genetic modification using Adun's gene sample, becoming a Protoss in body while retaining his human features and memories 12 13.

As his civilization expanded, Shen Jun elevated Protoss engineers by creating a Research Department and granting Phase-smiths status equal to—or above—High Templars. This reform earned the Khalai engineering class's loyalty and made technological development central to his rule 12.

He is willing to make severe decisions when he considers them necessary for the Protoss' survival, including using controlled alien beasts as expendable forces, manipulating political narratives, and exploiting rival civilizations' weaknesses 8 25 118.

As a leader, he values strategic preparation, resources, and technological superiority. His long-term decisions are consistently shaped by the anticipated return of Amon, leading him to seek allies, expand the Golden Armada, and secure resources across the Known Universe 25 31 66.

Despite his ruthlessness, Shen Jun retains personal limits. He refuses to harm an infant even after learning that Di Li had been engineered as a genetic matrix, and he restrains himself from exploiting Keisha while she is vulnerable and imprisoned 76 154. He also develops a genuine sense of belonging to the Protoss and is affected by the deaths of warriors under his command 24.
