Chen Huan looked at Chu Xin helplessly, but Chu Xin was still wary of him. After all, if it hadn't been for Chen Huan, neither he nor Xiao Wu would have been injured, and Xiao Wu was still receiving treatment.
Of course, Chen Huan could see that Chu Xin didn't trust him. All he could do now was try his best to explain. Since Chu Xin had decided to come see him, there was still a chance they could reconcile.
"Enough. Stop talking."
"Then you believe me?"
"How could I? Xiao Wu is still lying in the hospital. Even if you really had a way to protect me, you never used it, and this was the result."
"Then why did you come to see me?"
Chu Xin smiled at Chen Huan.
"I want the power of Dynamax! Power that Xiao Wu can control."
A large part of the reason Chu Xin had decided to seek out Chen Huan was the power of Dynamax. If Xiao Wu could master it, his strength would improve tremendously.
"Dynamax? You know about it?"
Chen Huan stared at Chu Xin in surprise. He hadn't expected Chu Xin to come looking for him despite knowing about Dynamax Energy. Did he not understand its dangers?
Once a monster mastered that power, it could break free of its owner's control at any moment. That was why so many Monster Handlers avoided it like the plague.
"Don't worry about that. I just need Xiao Wu to master Dynamax Energy. Do you have a way?"
"Well, I do."
As he spoke, Chen Huan took out Dragonite's Outrage Scale once again.
"Imprison has already been applied to this Scale. The Dynamax Energy on it is within Xiao Wu's limits. Take it if you want."
After all those twists and turns, it still came back to this Dragonite Scale. Once Chu Xin accepted it, he left the Jindu Gym.
Chen Huan and Vespiquen watched Chu Xin walk away. Chen Huan no longer looked remotely as flustered as he had earlier.
"I didn't expect him to come looking for me so soon. Perhaps our experiment will succeed through him."
"Bzz, bzz." (Great! More Pokéblocks!)
Of course, Vespiquen wasn't thinking nearly as far ahead as Chen Huan. Pokéblocks were his favorite.
A few days later, Chu Xin and Xiao Wu were training in the forest behind the villa. Chu Xin held a stopwatch, waiting to see Xiao Wu's results.
"Sixty-three seconds. Very good, Xiao Wu."
Chu Xin stopped the timer and looked at Xiao Wu happily. He had to admit that Dynamax Energy was a tremendous help to Pokémon. Although Xiao Wu had once been injured by it, his physical condition was now on an entirely different level. Dynamax Energy certainly lived up to its reputation.
"Woo!"
Xiao Wu came over to Chu Xin excitedly. Getting injured had hurt badly, but after recovering, his control over Extreme Speed had risen to a new level. Now he could weave perfectly through the woods while using Extreme Speed.
Watching from nearby, Aier was impressed by the results of Xiao Wu's training. He hadn't expected Xiao Wu to improve so much.
"Very good. Xiao Wu really is growing quickly now."
"What do you say, Aier? How about a battle?"
"Hmm?"
Chu Xin scratched his head and smiled at Aier.
"I can only discover Xiao Wu's weaknesses in battle. Just training like this all the time won't really show us where we're falling short."
Aier looked helplessly at his young master, then took out a black Poké Ball.
"Since you put it that way, I suppose I'll have to play along. Come out, Squirtle."
A little blue turtle appeared on the grass, staring at Dratini with its large eyes, full of fighting spirit.
"I caught this Squirtle not long ago. I'll have it battle your Xiao Wu."
So it's Squirtle. Looking at the little blue turtle, Chu Xin felt a wave of nostalgia. He had loved watching Pokémon back then, and the Starter Pokémon had been his favorites.
But liking it was one thing. Chu Xin wouldn't hold back in battle.
"Xiao Wu, use Thunder Wave to paralyze your opponent!"
"That won't hit my Squirtle. Use Withdraw, then Rapid Spin to dodge the attack!"
At Aier's command, Squirtle turned into a yo-yo on the ground and dodged Xiao Wu's Thunder Wave.
Squirtle rolled across the ground at an incredible speed, rivaling Xiao Wu's Extreme Speed.
This is bad. I can't let Squirtle keep going like this. Withdraw boosts its defense, which will make the rest of the battle much harder!
"Xiao Wu, use Extreme Speed to intercept Squirtle! Don't let him keep rolling!"
Hearing Chu Xin's command, Xiao Wu immediately accelerated and soon slammed into Squirtle.
Protected by Withdraw, however, Squirtle took little damage. Instead, Xiao Wu took a heavy blow while intercepting him, leaving his head spinning.
"Not bad. I thought you'd take a while longer to stop me, but you acted decisively. If you'd let me keep rolling, this match would have been over in no time."
Chu Xin looked at Xiao Wu with concern. That had indeed been his mistake. He hadn't expected Squirtle to combine moves. Aier really was hard to deal with-even a Squirtle was this troublesome!
"Xiao Wu doesn't look so good, but I won't hold back. Squirtle, use Water Gun!"
The little blue turtle opened his mouth and shot a jet of water at Xiao Wu. If that hit landed, there would be almost no chance of winning.
"Xiao Wu, dodge, quick!"
Hearing Chu Xin's command, Xiao Wu snapped out of his daze in time and dodged the Water Gun. Seeing the small crater it blasted into the ground beside him, both Xiao Wu and Chu Xin breathed a sigh of relief.
Good thing he dodged it.
"Our opponent is strong, Xiao Wu. Looks like we'll have to give it everything we've got!"
"Woo!" (Of course!)
Seeing Chu Xin and Xiao Wu brimming with fighting spirit, Aier nodded. It seemed the battle would continue, though he wondered what abilities Xiao Wu had yet to reveal.
"Xiao Wu, use Agility and close in! Don't let Squirtle hit you!"
"Squirtle, Withdraw."
Aier's commands really were excellent. Withdraw was difficult to deal with, but it also turned Squirtle into a sitting target.
"Xiao Wu, use Dragon Tail to knock Squirtle into the air!"
"Oh no! Squirtle, dodge the attack!"
"It's already too late, Aier! Xiao Wu, send Squirtle flying!"
Xiao Wu sent Squirtle flying with a powerful Dragon Tail. Watching Squirtle rise into the air, Xiao Wu opened his mouth and unleashed the dragon fire he had readied.
"Use Dragon Rage!"
Squirtle crashed heavily to the ground. Having taken a Dragon Rage in midair, he was now badly injured.
"We're not done yet! Xiao Wu, finish your opponent with Dragon Rush!"
Wreathed in blue flames, Xiao Wu locked on to Squirtle from above and slammed a vicious headbutt into his forehead.
