The golden light faded, and his aura drew inward!
Yet rich power of light still flowed across Yang Tian's skin.
"Teacher, Temple Master!"
Yang Tian approached the two stunned men and called out softly.
He was curious too. Just what sort of constitution had he awakened? Could someone tell him?
"Damn you, heavens! Are you trying to humiliate me?"
Coming back to his senses, Ye Hua roared hysterically, losing control without any regard for his dignity.
Yang Tian jumped in fright as well. Clearly, his awakening had dealt his teacher quite a blow.
"Ahem, well, Yang Tian, come back and ask tomorrow. Your teacher isn't in a good state right now!"
Nalan Shu recovered, though it was Ye Hua's roar that had snapped him out of his daze.
He caught hold of the out-of-control Ye Hua, then spoke to Yang Tian.
One was in the heavens, the other down on earth. The contrast had been an enormous shock to Ye Hua.
"Yes!" Yang Tian knew now that his talent was far from poor. He bowed and left the third floor.
The knight guarding the door remained expressionless and continued his work.
At last, he watched Yang Tian leave!
Quite a few people were allowed onto the third floor, but Yang Tian was the most unusual of them all.
After all, the Temple Master and the Chief Instructor, Night Asura, had brought him up themselves.
Night Asura's roar just now had filled even him with inexplicable fear. Perhaps that was what lingering trauma felt like!
"Ahem, old friend, get a hold of yourself. Losing your composure like that in front of your disciple nearly frightened the boy!"
Once Yang Tian had left, Nalan Shu tried to reason with him.
"Ninety-nine!"
"Ninety-nine! What do you know? Ninety-nine points of innate internal spiritual power!"
"Even without my help, he could have awakened ninety points of innate internal spiritual power without a hitch. It wasn't my hard work-it was his own talent!"
"You fat bastard, I thought my ideas would work for ordinary people too. But Yang Tian... he isn't an ordinary person..."
Ye Hua spoke in agitation.
As he went on, he actually began to cry.
A man his age had broken down in floods of tears.
Yang Tian's awakening had once again made him feel just how important talent was.
On the second floor, in the Testing Room!
Crack!
A crisp sound rang out.
"Heavens, two hundred and eighty-two points!"
"Subtract my one hundred and eighty-three points of external spiritual power, and my innate internal spiritual power is..."
"Ninety-nine!"
The one taking the test was Yang Tian.
His young face was filled with disbelief.
"I know where you came from!"
"Thank you for your faith. May my power of light always protect you..."
"Your origins have left a tiny flaw in your heart, so I cannot grant you complete perfection!"
"Still, this is enough for you to shine in this world..."
Those were the Goddess of Light's final words, tinged with regret. Even while receiving her baptism, Yang Tian had kept them firmly in mind.
Yang Tian raised a hand to cover his heart and murmured, "Could there still be a flaw in my heart?"
Suddenly, having ninety-nine points of innate internal spiritual power no longer made him all that happy.
Perhaps he could have done even better and reached perfect innate internal spiritual power.
But Yang Tian's innate internal spiritual power was not actually just that. What he had awakened was ninety-nine point nine nine...
Infinitely close to one hundred!
"When the moon is full, it begins to wane; when water fills a vessel, it overflows. Perhaps life simply cannot be too perfect!"
"Thank you, Goddess of Light. I will fulfill my duties as your representative in the mortal world, bringing light back to humanity and warmth to the continent!"
Having worked through his thoughts, Yang Tian smiled faintly.
Then he bowed respectfully to the empty air.
In the divine trials to come, that tiny imperfection would be what made him complete!
Unseen forces had already ordained it all!
The disappointment in his heart dissipated, and Yang Tian turned to head back.
However, a figure at the doorway had been standing frozen for quite some time.
It was Li Xin.
After a brief daze, Li Xin looked at Yang Tian and asked, "A-aren't you a squire? How could you have two hundred and eighty-two points of spiritual power?"
Two hundred and eighty-two points of spiritual power already put him at the level of a third-rank knight-a true knight. Yet Yang Tian was about the same age as her.
Amid her shock, she also noticed the changes in Yang Tian.
With ninety-nine point nine nine points of innate internal spiritual power and the Goddess of Light's protection, his once-black eyes had turned a clear gold.
The contours of his muscles had softened. He no longer looked quite so steely, instead giving off a fresh, almost ethereal air.
Even though Yang Tian's looks were not especially outstanding.
After his awakening, however, it was as though he had been completely reborn.
"Anyway, at this hour, shouldn't you be getting ready for bed after dinner? What are you doing here?"
Yang Tian gave her a blunt reply, then asked a question of his own.
"Hmph, no comment!"
As it turned out, Li Xin had learned from his bluntness.
But a moment's thought made it obvious. What else would someone come to the Testing Room for?
Given Li Xin's background, she could come and go freely on the second floor.
"You saw mine, so let me see yours too. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair, would it?"
Rather than bicker with her, Yang Tian spoke calmly.
Fairness was one of the Ten Rules knights observed!
"Watch if you want!" Li Xin muttered, feeling that her little sense of achievement had suddenly vanished.
Then she walked over, brushing past Yang Tian.
The faint fragrance coming from the boy seemed rather pleasant, different from the scent she had after bathing.
This scent seemed more natural.
Li Xin then took out a longsword imbued with the light element.
Yang Tian felt a little envious.
A Storage Device, and Magic Equipment too!
Even a single piece of Magic Equipment cost at least a hundred gold coins.
Yang Tian's gear was still utterly ordinary. The two simply could not compare.
The longsword radiated a rich light element, which was a considerable help to Li Xin!
Crack! Li Xin swung her sword down onto the Testing Device.
A smooth stone bead sprang up.
"One hundred and ninety-two points!"
Li Xin seemed quite satisfied with the result.
She would soon become a true knight. Clearly, she was also a squire who had awakened her innate internal spiritual power.
She had reached ninth-rank squire in one leap!
"Hmph, how's that?"
Looking at the result, Li Xin spoke to Yang Tian with a little pride.
With strength like hers, she could be considered a genius among the many squires.
"Yes, very impressive!" Yang Tian replied calmly, quite sincerely.
But Li Xin was unhappy when she heard it.
She thought of how Yang Tian had over two hundred points of spiritual power, putting him at the level of a third-rank knight, yet was still so modest.
"Hmph!" Then, inexplicably angry, she put away her equipment and left.
Watching Li Xin leave, Yang Tian was puzzled.
Can't I even tell the truth?
"At her age, with what she has to work with, she really is impressive. Li Xin's innate internal spiritual power must be at genius level too!"
Yang Tian spoke to himself.
Then he too left the Haoyue Branch Hall and returned to the dormitory.
His internal spiritual power had awakened, but his external spiritual power still had not reached its limit.
Now he needed to cultivate both internal and external spiritual power, improving them together.
But when would his training begin?
Yang Tian felt restless all over. Without the lash of training driving him on, how was he supposed to improve?
Success was ninety-nine percent perspiration and one percent talent.
Since he had talent, he needed to work even harder!
