Background / History
Early Cultivation
Before his Sacred Awakening, Ye Hua concentrated on external spiritual power and earned recognition as a genius in Xiu City. Awakening only nine points of innate internal spiritual power overturned those expectations. Nevertheless, he continued cultivating and eventually became a fifth-tier Sky Knight 21 24 26.
His limitations drove him to research ways of improving pre-awakening preparation. He hoped his methods could help ordinary people overcome poor talent, although Yang Tian’s exceptional awakening left him uncertain whether the results could be reproduced in less gifted students 24 27.
Taking Yang Tian as a Disciple
Nalan Shu recommended Ye Hua as a master for seven-year-old Yang Tian. Ye Hua accepted him but warned that laziness or spoiled behavior would end his instruction. His first assessment used a Knight-grade heavy sword and a Test Pillar; Yang Tian’s score of 183 impressed him 21.
Privately, Ye Hua promised Nalan Shu that he would teach the boy wholeheartedly even if his awakened talent proved as poor as his own. He then prepared Yang Tian with an experimental medicinal bath and assisted Nalan Shu in conducting the Sacred Awakening 21 24 25 26.
Yang Tian’s ninety-nine-point awakening delighted Ye Hua but also reopened his frustration over his own talent. He briefly lost control and cried, recognizing that his disciple was not an ordinary test case for his research. After recovering his composure, he arranged morning Squire theory lessons, afternoon Knight training, and personal combat instruction 27 28 29.
Ye Hua initially withheld Yang Tian’s talent from the Holy Temple largely for selfish reasons, despite knowing that reporting it would secure better resources. He hoped to prepare the boy for a selection tournament in two years 28.
Revenge on the Purple Star Three Fiends
After Yang Tian’s cultivation was destroyed during a mission, Ye Hua broke down while reprimanding him for adventuring instead of resting. He and Nalan Shu then entered the Purple Star Mountain Range to pursue the surviving Purple Star Three Fiends 36 37.
Using an expensive detection scroll, they located the fugitives. Ye Hua’s Mountain-Shaking Eagle captured both men, and Ye Hua severed their hand and foot tendons, pierced their eyes, and cut out their tongues. He intended to take them back for confirmation and accepted responsibility even if his identification proved wrong 37.
After explaining Yang Tian’s injury and extraordinary talent to senior experts, Ye Hua received a retired Radiant Knight’s Honor Token to help him seek treatment at the Holy Temple 38.
Journey to the Holy City
Ye Hua carried the unconscious Yang Tian toward the Holy City on his eagle, repeatedly casting light barriers to protect him from the wind. At Flame Sun City, a Temple Knight and four sixth-rank experts granted him Passage Seals after learning the purpose of his journey 39.
Aili City Lord Gu Zidong refused passage despite those guarantees. Zhang Yuan and Xing Nian intervened, allowing Ye Hua to continue, but Gu Zidong struck him with battle-axe energy that tore through his barriers and badly injured his back. Ye Hua pressed onward rather than stop for treatment 40.
At the Holy City, he accepted the risk of punishment for forcing entry and requested an audience with Han Qian. Once the other knights were dismissed, he revealed Yang Tian’s ninety-nine points of innate internal spiritual power and pleaded for the Holy Temple’s resources to save him 40.
Recovery and Farewell
While Yang Tian underwent treatment, Ye Hua accepted that the Holy Temple could offer more than the Haoyue Branch Hall. He nevertheless worried that excessive protection might prevent his disciple from developing independence 42.
They argued when Yang Tian insisted on returning home before his cultivation was restored. Ye Hua urged him to stay, explained that a priest had already been sent to examine Weiwei’s grandmother, and finally told him to walk home himself if he would not listen. Yang Tian later learned about his teacher’s injuries and legal risks and asked Han Qian to let him bear any punishment 43 44 45.
After recovering, Yang Tian agreed to remain at the Holy Temple and told Ye Hua that he would always be his teacher. The Temple did not hold Ye Hua responsible. Before their separation, Ye Hua gave him protective equipment and spent ten thousand gold coins on weapons, a shield, and armor 47 48.
Appearance
- Middle-aged: Described alongside Nalan Shu as one of two middle-aged men 21.
- Stern, rigid expression: His usually impassive face earns him the nickname “Zombie-face” 20 21 26.
- Intimidating presence: His appearance and reputation unsettle students; Nalan Shu remarks on how briefly Yang Tian maintains his composure before him 20 29.
Personality
Ye Hua demands discipline and refuses to indulge laziness. He approves of Yang Tian’s determination, insists that exceptional talent still requires diligent cultivation, and subjects his students to strenuous training. His strictness earns him the name Night Asura among the Knights 21 23 28 29.
His care is usually expressed through practical action rather than warmth: ensuring Yang Tian eats properly, supervising his medicinal treatment throughout the day, purchasing costly equipment, and personally carrying him to seek treatment. By their farewell, his stern instruction has become repeated reminders to stay safe 23 24 39 47 48.
He remains deeply wounded by the difference between effort and innate talent. Yang Tian’s awakening brings both pride and envy, while his initial decision to conceal the boy’s talent shows that his attachment can become possessive. Ultimately, he accepts the Holy Temple’s greater resources and prioritizes his disciple’s recovery 26 27 28 42.
Ye Hua’s mercy does not extend to those he considers malicious. He openly hates the Demon Race and responds to Yang Tian’s attackers with deliberate brutality, disregarding danger and consequences while seeking revenge 25 37 38.
Abilities & Skills
Knight Combat
A fifth-tier Sky Knight, Ye Hua uses his own experience overcoming poor talent to guide students 21.
- Offers instruction in both Guardian and Retribution Knight knowledge, respecting his disciple’s chosen path 25.
- Provides personal sparring and Knight-level physical training 28 29.
- Uses precise, rapid sword strikes to incapacitate both captured Fiends 37.
Light Barriers and Sun Fire
Ye Hua can manipulate light for protection and awakening rituals 25 26 39 40.
- Channels Sun Fire alongside Nalan Shu to refine Yang Tian’s Awakening Stone 25 26.
- Creates repeated light barriers to shield Yang Tian from airflow during flight 39.
- Reinforces those barriers with additional layers against Gu Zidong’s attack, but cannot withstand the higher-ranked warrior’s battle energy 40.
Pre-Awakening Body Tempering
Ye Hua developed a medicinal treatment intended to stabilize the body and draw out more innate potential 24.
- Uses medicinal liquid concentrated tenfold when preparation time is short.
- Supervises absorption that expels bodily impurities and strengthens Yang Tian’s physique.
- Warns that treatment causes severe cold and biting pain.
- Considers cheaper substitute herbs after Nalan Shu points out that ordinary families cannot afford the original formula.
- Recognizes that Yang Tian’s unusual talent prevents the successful result from proving the method’s effectiveness for ordinary people 24 27.
