Personality

Izuna is lively, affectionate, and openly proud of being an Uchiha. He idolizes Madara, seeks his affection, and dreams of fighting beside him. His relationship with Jing Xiu is more competitive: both twins insist that the other is the younger brother, despite their exceptionally close teamwork. Izuna also declares his ambition to become the Uchiha clan leader 1 4 18 27.

He recognizes that he lacks Madara’s strength and Jing Xiu’s intelligence, so he deliberately cultivates attentiveness, hoping to catch details his brothers overlook. Although he does not initially understand their strategic discussions, he memorizes their explanations for the future. His loyalty can leave him vulnerable—he continues a suspicious mission out of trust in his father and Jing Xiu—but he also accepts Yoshihiro’s advice to gather intelligence before proceeding 21 39.

Loss has a visible effect on him. The deaths of his Ino-Shika-Cho companions leave him withdrawn, while his concern for Jing Xiu ultimately drives him back toward Honnō-ji despite orders to remain away. Even so, he can set aside immediate hostility when necessary, accepting a practical agreement with Uzumaki Xiangnong to preserve the site of Jing Xiu’s disappearance 49 61 62.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Ueno Attack and Childhood Training

Izuna grows up amid the Uchiha’s wars with the Senju and Hyuga. Tajima brings his sons to Ueno Camp to expose them to the world’s cruelty. When the camp is attacked, Jing Xiu stays behind while Izuna carries Takashi and leads Chōta and Kō toward the clan grounds. Izuna eventually collapses from blood loss and exhaustion, but survives with numerous superficial wounds 1 2 3.

Afterward, Jing Xiu teaches him Baji Fist and the Golden Light Mantra. Izuna continues training under both brothers, learning Fire Release while gradually being included in discussions of alliances, military strategy, and clan leadership 4 18 21 27.

Kinzawa Castle and the Ino-Shika-Cho Guard

Izuna accompanies Madara and Jing Xiu to the Seven-Clan Alliance ceremony at Kinzawa Castle. There, he clashes with Tobirama after the Senju boy mistakes him for Jing Xiu 29 30.

Jing Xiu subsequently asks Nara Takamoto to help make the Nara, Yamanaka, and Akimichi clans Izuna’s trusted partners. Izuna receives a young Ino-Shika-Cho guard detail, with Yoshihiro providing the strategic support his brothers believe he needs 32 33.

Land of Hot Water Mission

Following an assignment to buy armored carriages in the Land of Iron, Izuna receives new orders to establish commercial relations with the Land of Hot Water. The orders contain neither proposed ventures nor negotiating guidelines, prompting Yoshihiro to suspect a trap. Izuna chooses to continue, but agrees to rest and gather intelligence first 39.

The mission produces an agreement after four days of negotiations: the Uchiha will provide two Special Jōnin to protect the daimyo. Anticipating danger on the return journey, Izuna also pretends to join the Jashin Cult and secures its High Priest and thirty followers as an escort. Because his initiation has not taken place, he avoids the cult’s mental corruption 41 42.

Whirlpool Island Ambush

Uzumaki barriers detect Izuna’s group as they land on the coast. During the ensuing attack, his opponents demonstrate advance knowledge of Chidori, leading him to suspect that someone within the Uchiha has leaked his abilities. His companions use forbidden drugs to break the encirclement, then attempt an escape through flight and exchanged disguises 43.

The escape ends on Whirlpool Island, where Tobirama and Mito await him. The Jashin Cult proves unreliable, but Yamanaka’s mind technique briefly turns the High Priest into a defender. Akimichi’s final sacrificial attack triggers Izuna’s Three-Tomoe Sharingan awakening, and Ashina shields him from the blast 44 45.

Tobirama later holds the unconscious Izuna as leverage against Jing Xiu. Jing Xiu rescues him through sheer speed and escapes with Madara, but the loss of his companions leaves Izuna quiet and withdrawn 47 48 49.

Hoshigakure and Clan Politics

While traveling with his brothers, Izuna helps Jing Xiu defeat and capture Subaru at Hoshigakure. Their coordinated lightning-sword attack removes the old leader from Madara’s battle 50.

Back among the Uchiha, Izuna becomes more involved in politics. He questions whether the elders’ faction can be divided, identifies supporters of Madara, and is assigned to keep the elders’ followers from interfering with the confrontation at the Underground Shrine 52 54.

Honnō-ji and the Founding of Rōran

At Honnō-ji, Izuna attempts to bring allied forces to Jing Xiu’s aid, but Tobirama and his supporters block them. Jing Xiu orders Izuna to withdraw the Uchiha and their affiliated clans a thousand li from the battlefield 60.

Unable to remain away, Izuna arranges a shadow-clone warning system and returns. He reaches the outskirts just as a golden beam from the moon destroys Honnō-ji and takes Jing Xiu away. His Mangekyō awakens, but its teleportation cannot save his twin 61 62.

Sensing spatial fluctuations in the beam, Izuna believes Jing Xiu remains alive. He orders Xiangnong to guard the site until his brother returns. When Xiangnong proposes establishing a nation there with Uchiha assistance, Izuna accepts and names it Rōran, creating a small state in the desert between the Lands of Wind and Fire 62.
