Background

Gepard is a member of the Landau Family whose responsibilities as a Silvermane Guard keep him bound to Belobog's Upper District. Unlike Stelle, he cannot freely board the Astral Express or visit her whenever he wishes. 5

More than ten years before the story's Belobog events, his sister Serval attempted to teach him to sing. His poor singing prompted her to pinch and knead his face, leaving it as Gepard's only prior memory of being touched that way before Stelle cups his face at the cable car station. 10

Gepard is a tall young man with short blond hair and clear sky-blue eyes. He wears the blue-and-white uniform of the Silvermane Guards. 4 9

Personality

Gepard is formal, dutiful, and restrained. He fulfills his promise to treat Stelle to lunch, worries about the demands of his official duties, and leaves the Goethe Grand Hotel only when Sampo engineers an urgent issue in his work group. 5 7

He is also deeply considerate. He offers to guide Stelle through Belobog during his vacation, buys her hot chocolate after her drinking leaves her with a headache, and immediately commits to doing his best when she asks for help. 4 10

Though normally stern and reserved around women, Gepard becomes visibly flustered by Stelle's affection. He suppresses an impulse to touch her while carrying her home drunk, struggles to interpret her advances, and ultimately answers her affection with an embrace and a promise to wait for her return. 5 10 11

Story Role

Reunion in Belobog

Gepard encounters Stelle in Belobog's Upper District after meeting with Bronya. While on vacation, he offers to show her around and treats her to a large meal at the alley where Belobog's vendors now operate. 4 5

He is disappointed to learn that Stelle can remain in Belobog for only three days, knowing that his duties prevent him from joining her travels freely. 5

The Goethe Grand Hotel Incident

After Stelle drinks too much Mulled Wine, Gepard catches her and carries her to the Goethe Grand Hotel. Sampo intercepts him at her room and demands that he hand her over, but Gepard refuses because he considers it his responsibility to protect her while she is unconscious. 5 6

Sampo fabricates a work emergency that forces Gepard to leave. Gepard warns Sampo that he will return after finishing his duties and that Sampo should be careful. 7

Cable Car Station Confession

Gepard returns to check on Stelle after resolving the work issue. She pulls him into the empty cable car station, where he brings her hot chocolate and listens to her fears about the Express Crew's coming warp. 9 10

When Stelle asks to touch his face, Gepard allows her to cup his cheeks despite being overwhelmed by the intimacy. After she calls him trustworthy and dependable, he embraces her, says he believes she will return safely, and promises to keep waiting for her. Stelle kisses his cheek in return. 10 11

Departure

Welt calls Stelle back to the Astral Express shortly afterward. Gepard watches her leave the station, realizes too late that he wants to chase after her, and remains behind in Belobog because neither abandoning his Guard duties nor asking Stelle to stay is realistic. 12
